Republicans have created a “Work and Welfare” subcommittee within the House Ways and Means Committee and Democrats are incensed over it, screeching that it is deeply offensive to those on welfare and to black Americans in general.
Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) called the committee to order on Tuesday to approve the rules in the 118th Congress. The rules put in place the new name of the committee which was immediately pounced on by a number of Democrats who made it evident they are perpetually offended over just about everything. There they go again, exposing their own racism. Why are they equating the word ‘welfare’ with Black people?

In 1996, President Bill Clinton pledged to "end welfare as we know it." Was he being racially offensive?

Considering that I am white and decades ago, I had to make use of welfare for a short time, how can this be racially offensive????

It was a common term when I was a poor white boy working my way through college sixty years ago. I more than paid it back over the years, but thanks.

I read the entire article and did not find the new, politically correct, non-perjorative term for welfare. "Pro-provision" maybe? Something else? Pray tell, Dems?

I am white. I have 5 brothers and sisters. My alcoholic father deserted us and our mother. She was only in her early 30's. All mom ever wanted to do was to have a large family and take care of us. Sometimes life does not work out like we think it will. She worked and did the best she could. Eventually we went on welfare. She also went to school and became a nurse. Graduated first in her class and at the time she scored the highest on the state licensing test. She worked in our state's largest hospital for 25 years before she retired. She did not drink, use drugs, or run around having more babies. Welfare is for short term use, help from fellow tax payers. It is not a way of life. And if you have a problem with that than you are probably part of the problem. Mom graduated from nursing school and I graduated from high school the same. Very proud of her. I am not ashamed that we needed assistance and proud about how mom handled the whole situation.

I’ve never had a problem with short term welfare. My problem lies when it turns into generational income.

Because there are a higher percentage of Americans that are "white", the majority of people on welfare are also white.
I guess the race baiting Demon-Rats in the House sort of missed that little tidbit of fact!!!!! But since the Demon-Rats have one agenda -- to force as many blacks onto the welfare plantation as possible, I think the only thing about this subcommittee that really "offends" them is that the truth of lie-beral racism will be exposed!!!!

Well maybe if those folks who are offended went out and actually got jobs they might stop being offended? After reading Judge Judy's autobiography about 25 years ago, I was surprised to learn how many welfare recipients are multigenerational recipients. She said it is being treated as some kind of weird family inheritance. I think that legislation signed by LBJ was one of the most evil attacks on the black family structure.

The original intent, as i understand it (except for some commies who meant it as a permanent condition), was to be a helping hand when unpredictable financial crises beset an individual or family. I forget who said this, but welfare was not supposed to be a hammock.
Star Parker has written much on this, having experienced generational welfare, and its destructive impact on people when they will not move on to independence.
The trouble is, welfare proponents treat their clients like children or imbeciles who simply cannot emancipate themselves from the State.

Here is a job everyone can learn for the "Work and Welfare" subcommittee.
"Work" to get a photo ID and get off "Welfare"...besides we need to lower the long welfare rolls
to make room for the illegal aliens and get them out of the four-star hotels.

Why would anyone immediately think Blacks when welfare is mentioned? That sounds like a bigot to me. I guess the democrats have some self-hatred about their prejudices and want to take it out on everyone else.
