Much has been made of the fact that it took 15 votes until Republican Kevin McCarthy finally secured the Speakership of the House. Powerline Blog has rounded up a series of the internet cartoons and memes about the long fight. With their salaries on the line, I never imagined the fight would continue much longer. It would appear that the extended debate may at last result in Congress more skillfully playing the role designed for it in the Constitution and a much-needed return to the regular order of business in the House.
Many emphasized that the fight represented a disastrous split in the party whose hold on the House is

It remains to be seen how McCarthy will operate.
We won't be long finding out, He will start making appointments soon.

In the end, I doubt it will be of much consequence.

...sadly, a RINO can't change his stripes...

What was made abundantly clear: RINOs rule the GOP (which is not so grand anymore)

Lots of comments on how Gaetz held out to expose the rino’s. So where does that leave Trump? Trump was making calls to get Kevin across the finish line, so? Trump wants to be President again and he needs much needed help on the inside so is he learning how to play politics? Or is he a Rino as well? Look I’m just pointing out a few things, I voted for the man twice but I’m starting to question some of the stuff that has taken place, that’s all

Why don't we give McCarthy a chance?

Those 20 No votes were not enough to get someone else elected but they had enough leverage to get some badly needed changes to how Washington works. I applaud them. The big losers were Dan Crenshaw, who was over the top an a**hol* who needs to be voted out, and the bed wetting media, especially Sean Hannity, who did not have a clue why this was happening. I’m trying to be optimistic.

We should be very worried about Kevin. Just after Friday's recess was taken before the 10PM vote, McCarthy spoke into a microphone that he has finally learned how to govern. Imagine that, after 16 years in Congress, the Freedom Caucus taught Kevin what should be done. If he hadn't a clue before the 20 stood in the way, what makes you think he has learned his lesson? Kevin has his own puppeteers. They live on K Street. Verify Kevin first, then trust him as far as you can throw him.

Kept a list of the holdouts: Biggs, Boebert,Crane, Gaetz, Good, Rosendale, so we know whose campaigns to donate to when the time comes... none of the others... and not the RNC which should have kicked out of the GOP the most blatant RINOs... Cheney and any Reps on the J6 committee. Hope the concessions by McCarthy will be enforced and the USA (and the world) will see a better future. Thank you, Matt!

Can't take credit for this observation (h/t: Common Sense Cowboy on Newsmax) but why was it a concession to return to regular order? You know - 12 appropriations bills that originate in the House rather than an omnibus drafted in the Senate?

With Devin Nunez gone from the House, the only individuals I would have supported for House Speaker were Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise. Since both of them openly endorsed Kevin McCarthy for Speaker, this turmoil should have ended after the fourth or fifth vote, by which time the anti-RINOs had already received the concessions they demanded. Even President Trump, ever the smooth negotiator, called for the conservative holdouts to "Accept the win."
The holdout conservatives behaved as stupidly as the Republican wing typically does. It's a mystery to me why so many Republican lawmakers, particularly in state legislatures, act stupidly and embarrass themselves in what they propose and how desperately they cling to even their most inexplicable proposals. For heaven's sake, take the win and survive to fight another day.

The real insight in this election process is that only 20 people were holding out. Seems it should have been the vast majority advocating what the 20 congresspersons wanted. I'm glad my rep was one of them. The demosluts made a real push in November to kick him out, but Harris beat back that move.

"The Long Fight for the House Speakership" - was totally justified and has clearly delineated the Freedom Caucus as the supporters of "freedom" and if McCarthy backs down and kicks the Freedom Caucus members in the pants, his azz is toast however, nary a sound when the Cong Black Caucus pulls a stunt, is there?

Gaetz will be proven right before the year is over. McCarthy can't be trusted but not allowed to operate like Nancy Pelosi did. The group who opposed McCarthy should have had more support their first clue should have been when the RINO moved into the Speaker's office.

It's a shame that Congress doesn't have these kind of fights over 4,000 page bills spending trillions of dollars that the country doesn't have.
It is good that Kevin McCarthy had to fight for the office.

If the only thing done in this Congress is keeping lying sack of Schiff away from ANY committees with any power ......that would be a very good thing.
