Since the “red wave” fizzled out, a consensus has quickly emerged in the media that Donald Trump is no longer a viable political force. The newly anointed prince of the Right, according to the tastemakers, is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Trump’s more palatable, less chaotic protégé. But DeSantis and Trump offer two very different things. DeSantis is a conventional politician with Trump-like qualities, who can, at least according to his fan base, build a popular majority that is beyond Trump’s reach. Trump is a radical outsider to a rigged, illegitimate political system with which he has been at war for seven years,

Although I'm a Floridian and I think Governor DeSantis has done a fantastic job here, I'm 100% behind President Trump. I really believe he's the only one that can bring some sanity back to this country.

#1, Correct, but he did so much more. He not only exposed their treachery, he offered a real solution to defeat it and that is the rub for the GOPe. They know he is serious and has an enormous love for this country. It’s not all about the money for him. It’s about saving the country that he loves, and he knows he can do it if the government truly is of, by and for the people. You are going to see exactly who has been bought by the corporate ruling class in the next couple years. It’s going to be a no holds barred bare-knuckled brawl because everything hangs on the outcome. I will stand with Trump because I don’t trust anyone else making noise about throwing their hat in the ring. I look to the Trump years and see promises kept, economy booming, strong and able military, secure border, for the most part a peaceful world. We haven’t seen that in a very long time. I am not switching horses in the middle of a stream. PDT’s philosophy struck gold. America First works, it’s a proven winner. Trump deserves another chance more than anyone in politics today.

Yes, Trump is the only guy who possesses some level of integrity and determination to preserve America as founded. As for everybody else, it's the follow the money and power schtick. These will be treacherous years ahead. The establishment will take a scorched earth strategy against Trump to try and stop him once and for all. 24/7 security for him is imperative. May God continue to protect Donald J. Trump, Melania, the children, and the entire Trump family.

I like desantis, but this writer's analysis is correct. It maybe that only a billionaire can take on the swamp- a billionaire who understands the media very well and who is competent, fearless and charismatic. By extremely hard work Trump built a movement. I would like to see desantis do likewise over the next several years, not to see him merely take over the MAGA movement by taking over the Republican Party with the help of RINOs.

While I love what DeSantis is doing in Fla., and would vote for him if he was the 'R' candidate, he's still a politician. PDT is still my 1st choice. I'm old and the memory is going, but I do remember the lower gas prices, a healthy 401k, and relatively reasonable grocery prices. I'd really like those back.

I'm tired of losing too many elections we should win, and as long as Trump is on the stage, the loses will continue. Any serious analysis of key mid-term elections shows that Trump turns off far too many independents and women to win many general elections. In addition to that, Trump is the most effective get out the vote program the Dems have. Nobody energizes the Dems and a lot of independents to get out and vote against Republicans like Trump. If Trump is the nominee he will undoubtedly lose, and take down a lot of Republicans with him.

Both men, Trump and DeSantis, should work this out in order to regain the country. Let Trump have a four-year term then DeSantis in that time keep Florida red then move to a possible two presidency if he chooses. This is the only solution because DeSantis does not have 'all' the MAGA support for 2024. DeSantis is not a proven populist like Donald Trump. I think that the reason why Huey Long from Louisiana was assassinated he was a populist like Trump is. The RINOs have to be purged from the scene they are the poison of the party McConnell is the leader. Kevin McCarthy is just goat's milk.

If you think ANYONE can be President who opposes the swamp, WITHOUT a honest election, you are nuts. They blatantly stole it in 2020 and now 2022. Maybe you think all the come from behind, too close to call, reversals that go to the rats, etc. are legit. Maybe state AGs, election officials at key districts aren't controlled by globalist/swamp dark money. I wish I could be that naive.

Trump vs The Establishment? For his first 70 years, Trump epitomized The Establishment, which is historically defined as a closed social group or an elite that selects its own members and within which power is exercised. While it is possible he had a "Damascus Road" type of conversion, his popularity and name recognition, at least prior to 2015-16, was basically owing to his displays of wealth and the associated power and influence society bestows upon the super-wealthy. The Establishment was initially associated with the aristocratic elite of Great Britain and members of the Privy Council, senior civil servants, Church of England clergy, lawyers, academics, industrialists, and the high ranking military officers. In the U.S., the Establishment's power elite were traditionally tied to the older East Coast cities, like NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, and Newport. The Boston Brahmins refer to a group of interconnected families with ties to Ivy League colleges and Northeastern prep schools, senior Establishment types. In the '60s and '70s, Establishment types were also referred to as "The Man." Sociologist C. Wright Mills, coined the term, "power elite," referring to those holding disproportionate wealth and political power over the decades, like the Kennedys and Rockefellers. Today, it appears that "the Establishment" refers only to the political elite of the democrat and Republican parties and further, referring to RINOs, like Romney. I'm not saying Trump is "bad" for having parlayed his inherited wealth to to greater wealth and influence; that's actually admirable. I'm just saying that The Establishment can be viewed more broadly and the "outsider" Trump has been anything but.

Revenge of the Neocons? 5 replies

Few factions of American political life have suffered a fall as lamentable as the neoconservatives, a group of Reaganite intellectuals who held sway in Republican politics from the mid-1990s until the advent of Donald J. Trump. Idealists who pushed a globally managed new world order after the Cold War, they advocated failed nation-building around the world, compromised domestically with tax-and-spend neoliberals, contentedly ceded control of cultural politics to the Left, and ended up a dainty, bow-tied coterie of controlled opposition subsumed by Washington’s ossified elite. Feckless, out of touch, out of power, and often quite happy to be that way in exchange for comfortable lives of blue-state social acceptability, neocons

Are modern conservatives just unthinking rubes who want to be angry? That was the tenor of a discussion Wednesday on the “future of conservatism” featuring former George W. Bush strategist Karl Rove and columnist George Will, who announced that he’d left the Republican Party in 2016. The event was sponsored in part by the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation, a curious choice to discuss the future of conservative ideas. Johnson was the architect of the Great Society, the largest expansion of the federal government in our history alongside the New Deal. Rove said that many of the conservative “touchstones” of the past, such as federalism and limited government

An inflection point is coming. In preparation for what we are about to witness, it is critical to understand that both the DNC and RNC are private corporations with no affiliation to government. It is a difficult shift in thinking to appropriately understand, but the party system in U.S. politics revolves around two clubs that feed from the same corporate trough and position for influence and affluence within a political dynamic they control.

You might have gotten the feeling that—putting aside the legal cheating through mail-in ballots and ballot harvesting—the real enemy of the red wave in 2022 wasn’t Democrats but was, instead, Republicans. According to Sundance, writing at The Conservative Treehouse, if you had that feeling, you’re right on the money. According to him, we’re witnessing an all-out civil war in the Republican party that’s going to escalate as we near the 2024 presidential election. The fight is over money: Is there an American economy that benefits the American people or is the future economy purely transnational for the benefit of the leadership class

It’s been an interesting week of watching people on the Right scrambling to sling mud at anything or anyone to which or whom it will stick. Perhaps the most interesting of all is “who” the blame has fallen to. Namely, Donald Trump. Most people do not understand the kind of true sacrifice Trump made when he decided to run for office—even though he surely didn’t have to. The hatred and other persecutions, the sorts that come with such public sacrifices, have the potential of ruining not only one’s own life but that of one’s family.

If there’s one thing the 2022 midterms made clear, it’s that Democrats have a huge ground game advantage over Republicans. Whether it’s a month of harvesting (and curing) ballots thanks to early voting, or going door-to-door filling out ballots for huge swaths of unlikely voters, Democrats know that turning out ballots is more important than turning out votes. They don’t have to rely on generating traditional Election Day enthusiasm through distributing campaign mailers or running TV ads. Republicans, however, still insist on investing the majority of their campaign funds into these antiquated (or pre-2020) methods. And they’re showing no signs of stopping. Why? Blame the political consultant class.

The warmongers are obsessed with destroying Russia. To achieve it, they are determined to fight to the last Ukrainian. In eight months, Congress has wasted $69 billion of American taxpayer money to fund their proxy war. That’s about $8 billion more than Russia’s entire annual military budget. And to the delight of the American arms industry, there is no end in sight. Biden is soon expected to request another $50 billion.  CORRECTION*

In the days following the 2022 midterms, some self-anointed conservative thought leaders, who were never all that pro-Trump to begin with, have officially thrown the 45th President under the bus. These spineless conservatives have frolicked over to the DeSantis camp in a way that almost seems as if it was choreographed. Just like that, Trump is yesterday’s news -- he is to be discarded and forgotten about. ‘We need to move on from Trump!’ they’ll sheepishly exclaim. To that I say: pathetic… absolutely pathetic. This kind of thinking, to put it euphemistically, is unsound and illogical. While it’s hard to put a positive spin on the mediocre midterm results,

When Congress authorized $80 billion this year to beef up Internal Revenue Service enforcement and staffing, Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy warned that “Democrats’ new army of 87,000 IRS agents will be coming for you.” A video quickly went viral racking up millions of views, purporting to show a bunch of clumsy bureaucrats receiving firearms training, prompting alarm that the IRS would be engaged in military-style raids of taxpayers. The GOP claims were widely attacked as exaggerations — since the video, though from the IRS, didn’t show official agent training — but the criticism has shed light on a growing trend: the rapid arming of the federal government.

They have failed miserably in their duties. But we can’t insist that they recount the votes or complain that they didn’t support Trump candidates. They’ll just dismiss us as “right-wing extremist election-deniers.” Instead, we need to use their own rules against them. First, they violated the sacred rule that the party members choose the candidates in the primaries, not the leadership elites.
