Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) called for new House Democratic leadership after a vote to ban congressional lawmakers from trading stocks was stalled indefinitely in the lower chamber.
On Tuesday, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) introduced the Combatting Financial Conflicts of Interest in Government Act prohibiting senior government officials and their family members from trading stocks after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) directed her to craft the legislation in February. However, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) indicated that the bill would not be voted on before the midterms. “Probably no vote this week,” Hoyer told CNN on Friday, as congressional members leave to focus on their campaigns ahead of the midterm elections on November 8.

The liberal comedian and host of the eponymous Real Time With Bill Maher told his audience Friday night that although he considered President Joe Biden’s place on the Democratic ticket for the president in 2024 to be a done deal, he could “see” dumping Vice President Kamala Harris. The audience erupted in applause, showing that even the Left doesn’t think she has what it takes. The surprising moment occurred while he was hosting a panel with Atlantic staff writer Caitlin Flanagan and CNN “Whitelash” commentator Van Jones. They spent most of the segment trying to put lipstick on a pig

BIirmingham, Alabama – Long-time Democratic political consultant James Carville says some wild things in American politics could be coming over the next two years.
During a talk, part of Alabama-based PARCA’s Speaker Series, held at the Red Mountain Theatre in Birmingham, Carville said he did not expect former President Donald Trump nor President Joe Biden to be on the 2024 presidential election ballot. “I don’t think Trump or Biden will be on the ballot in 2024,” he said. “I’m going to be 78 in less than a month. The country needs a generational change. I think they’re going to get it.”

A campaign adviser to Florida governor Ron DeSantis accused Vice President Kamala Harris of causing “undue panic” with her suggestion that Hurricane Ian–relief aid should be distributed “based on equity.”
Harris said Friday that those in lower-income communities and people of color are “most impacted by these extreme conditions,” and “we are all thinking about the families in Florida and Puerto Rico with [Hurricane] Fiona and what we need to do to help them in terms of an immediate response and aid.”
Speaking during the Democratic National Committee’s Women’s Leadership Forum, she said: “We have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity,

Kyiv, Ukraine - Russian forces retreated from Lyman, a strategic city for its operations in the east, the Russian defense ministry said Saturday, just a day after Moscow's annexation of the region that's been declared illegal by the West.
"In connection with the creation of a threat of encirclement, allied troops were withdrawn from the settlement of Krasny Liman to more advantageous lines," the ministry said on Telegram, using the Russian name for the town of Lyman.
Russian state media Russia-24 reported that the reason for Russia's withdrawal was because "the enemy used both Western-made artillery and intelligence from North Atlantic alliance countries."

The big January 6 Committee extravaganza was set to begin again on Wednesday, and in the eye of their manmade storm was Ginny Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. “Getting” Ginny Thomas and their real target, Justice Thomas, has been at the center of the Left’s nocturnal fantasies for years, and no doubt the Committee was eager to dirty her up for them as much as possible. But, alas, Hurricane Ian intervened, and the Committee temporarily postponed the “Fall Season” of the hearings so as not to share the news cycle with an act of God. No big announcements about Ginny Thomas would be forthcoming

The teachers’ union-backed campaign to overturn school-choice expansion in Arizona has failed due to a shortfall in signatures, the state’s secretary of state announced Thursday.
Under the expansion of Arizona’s universal-voucher program, known as the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA), enacted in June, over one million K-12 public school students in the state will become eligible to receive vouchers to fund their attendance at private, charter, or home schools, up from the 11,000 students who are currently eligible. To subject the expansion to a referendum, the anti-school-choice advocacy group Save Our Schools Arizona had to collect 118,823 valid signatures.

A late ruling yesterday in federal court delivered a setback for Pacific Legal Foundation in its lawsuit against Biden’s Academia bailout. However, the circumstances that prompted it may have delivered even more fodder for six states suing the Biden administration.
Let’s start with the first domino to fall. The Biden administration suddenly reversed course on providing comprehensive and compulsory student-loan debt forgiveness yesterday after seeing the PLF complaint. The Department of Education changed the rules to undercut Frank Garrison’s standing in the first lawsuit, and to head off part of the complaint filed later in the week by the six states:

The Hubble Space Telescope, a science warrior, has logged over 30 years in orbit studying the mysteries of the universe, and NASA would love to extend its usable life for as long as possible. It might be a long shot, but Elon Musk's SpaceX could potentially step in to give Hubble a helping hand.
NASA, SpaceX and Jared Isaacman, a private astronaut with the Polaris Program, hosted a media teleconference on Thursday to announce a feasibility study that will look into sending a commercial Dragon spacecraft to reboost Hubble, placing the telescope into a higher and more stable orbit than it's currently in.

Russian president Vladimir Putin announced in a speech on Friday that Russia would be formally annexing several regions of Ukraine that it continues to occupy.
Since invading its western neighbor in February, Russian forces have suffered heavy losses, and have more recently been pushed back toward their own border after a Ukrainian counter-offensive found success.
In spite of the recent military setbacks, Putin asserted that “the citizens of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhia, and Kherson have become our citizens forever,” directly addressing Ukraine’s government and “its real masters in the West.”

The GOP always has to deal with the shaft they get from the legacy media. While the “Commitment to America” (COA) may not go as far as many conservatives would like, it does contain some broadly popular policy prescriptions. Because Democrats and their stenographers in the press know this, they will downplay the details. However, the game Democrats and the media are playing is easy to see in a recent poll of likely voters. In partnership with the Trafalgar Group, Convention of States Action conducted a national survey to measure how likely voters perceived the case to vote for the GOP made by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy when he unveiled the COA.

Hurricane Ian has, for good reason, consumed the news cycles this week in light of its record devastation across southwest Florida, but in the midst of their substantial coverage, the broadcast networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC have refused to mention President Biden chose to attend a Democratic Governors Association (DGA) fundraiser on Wednesday night as billions of dollars in damage were being inflicted, lives lost, and storm surge inundated the region.
In contrast, at least five Fox News Channel shows cared to mention Biden’s decision to spend time raising money to put Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) out of office as his state faces one of the worst
