The teachers’ union-backed campaign to overturn school-choice expansion in Arizona has failed due to a shortfall in signatures, the state’s secretary of state announced Thursday.
Under the expansion of Arizona’s universal-voucher program, known as the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA), enacted in June, over one million K-12 public school students in the state will become eligible to receive vouchers to fund their attendance at private, charter, or home schools, up from the 11,000 students who are currently eligible. To subject the expansion to a referendum, the anti-school-choice advocacy group Save Our Schools Arizona had to collect 118,823 valid signatures.

Good news. May these "teachers' union initiatives" fail everywhere.
The teachers' unions don't give a holy hoot about our kids.

How could anyone who truly cares about the education of our children be against vouchers?

The union tried to say they were taking money away from students which was a lie! All students were fully funded $17,000 and those who wanted to take a voucher actually get less $11,000 than the students whose parents chose to leave them in mediocre schools. Winning! Go Arizona, Go Kari Lake and Go Blake Masters!

This needs to expand from Arizona to nation-wide. Teachers first, kids LAST. Starve teachers’ unions.

My grandson goes to a Christian high school which my daughter pays for. While her Oregon tax dollars put tampon machines in all the boys' restrooms. Why can't we get school vouchers? How can we get that going?

Really sad news. This means there will be less of those good paying union jobs in AZ that Diaper Joe so loves. And all because voters don't want the product Union teachers produce. I expect Meritless Garlands jack boot thugs at the Fascist Bureau of Intimidation to be busting down some parents doors real soon.

Great news in Arizona. We are bringing School Choice to Oregon with 2 constitutional measures. We find out next week if the Secr of State will allow us to proceed and whether the AG will give us factually correct and impartial ballot titles. Fingers crossed. Please send prayers. Oregon K-12 students deserve the right to choose the school setting that meets their needs and aligns with the values of the family. EducationFreedomforOregon dot com

This is Huge. Teachers Unions all over the country have grown accustomed to bowling over the rights of parents. No more. Their overreach and focus on teachers is the reason that we can't Save Our Schools. The greatest country in the world needs to have the best students. We are woefully near the bottom.

All well and good. The next question regards curriculum controls and audits. How will the state define what must be taught for accreditation? And what will be done to support a nascent K-12 school expansion one might expect? I would suggest using the existing school properties as "incubators" for these private educational efforts. Arizona stands in a great position to eliminate government schools.

When left to the people, public government run schools are losing. High time. The unions are having a learning moment.

We need to push to rid the country of the teacher's unions. All they have done is pushed to get more money for teachers while the teachers teach less and indoctrinate more.
As an aside, I think today's cartoon should be mailed by the thousands to Joyless Behar.

Regarding teachers' unions, whose ranks include yours truly, retired, I strongly favor collective bargaining.
But the unions strayed far, far away from that function. They pretend to be "all about the children." They are NOT, never were, and it's not the function of the union. They are about the wages and working conditions of their members.
When they pretend to be some saintly guardian of America's children they become insufferably arrogant and insular. And the dirty little secret is, a lot of them are not very bright, as in brick stupid.
It was my experience that the flamboyant extremists* are among the least intelligent, and use their fervent commitment to whatever as a defensive shield against inquiry into their actual teaching skills.
Take this one to the bank: These LGBQ+ zealots gripe about not being able to "answer questions" yada yada. What nonsense. Did they never field a question from a small child about whether Santa Claus was real? "Age appropriate" isn't just about sex.
Weingarten is a lying disgrace. Probably the only thing to do is take your children out of any school her union has its hooks into.
