The numbers are in and the folks running the Emmys have a CNN problem. This is from Variety:
The Nielsen data for the 2022 Emmys on NBC is in and its [sic] not looking good for TV's biggest night.
The awards show was down 25% from last year in total viewers and hit a new record low in ratings.
On Monday, the Kenan Thompson-hosted 74th Emmy Awards had a 1.0 rating among adults 18–49, the lowest-ever key demo stat for the Emmys.

I watched paint dry. It was much more entertaining.

It is not just the Emmy show itself. Don't get me wrong, I think the show stinks for all the woke foolishness. But more importantly, I simply don't like what is being made anymore.

And they're surprised?
I don't go to theaters anymore. The films all stink. The venues are all "gun-free zones" (I don't care because I carry anyway, but that's where their sentiments are). The ticket prices are outrageous; the popcorn is expensive and tasteless, and on top of it all, some are now "cashless" so there's another way of tracing your movements. Most "celebrities" are idiots.

Sorry for the "double-post", but this is the Emmys, right? Well, I don't watch much TV anymore unless it's cable - and as soon as I spot the first homosexual character or hear the first left-wing nonsense, I turn it off. So there's not much to watch.

First, hire people who know how to host an awards ceremony. Martin Short and Steve Martin were in attendance. They could have done far better without a script than KT (I will admit his hits on Netflix were spot on).
Second, don’t hire a ‘current thing’ box checker to be the VOG. ‘It’ had no real speaking ability. ‘It’ was KT’s ‘niece/wanna be nephew.’ It is rare when someone hired due to a family connection works out. This wasn’t it.

Is this the program on which Jimmy Kimmel for some (unknown?) reason faked a faint while one of the winners was giving her thank you speech? Did he think he was being funny? Maybe he wanted to copy Will Smith?
I don't watch current programming any longer and so don't know who any of these people are.
I wasn't even aware the Emmys were still on.

None of the programming is worth watching, so why tune in for the awards?

The Good Doctor with outstanding acting - no nominations. Young Sheldon with outstanding acting - no nominations.
Let's go, Emmys.

Stopped watching ANY of these "award" shows years ago. It seems that the proliferation of these shows is increasingly inversely proportional to the quality of work.

I also hear that there was some controversy involving Jimmy Kimmel . . .
Kimmel always reminds me of a drunken smarmy frat boy who got more than his "share" of drunken passed-out coeds in his day . . .

We have Netflix through the kindness (?) of one of my sons. There is a British program that's been on for now it's 11th season, Call the Midwives. It is an excellent program. And that's about it as far as Netflix. Prime has a genre of almost religious movies and Cokeville Miracle was a beautiful story and apparently true. If you look hard enough you can find a few good things but most of the time I rewatch older movies from my youth, Annette in one of those beach movies, John Wayne, Barefoot Contessa, and so on. But 99% of offerings start off with either a porn sex scene or within 30 seconds the F word is used 5 times. When that happens, I click off.

The price of TV keeps going up as the quality plunges deeper and deeper. Forget about the Big 3 and the big cables - pure garbage. I'm left with streaming reruns of Perry Mason, Alfred Hitchcock, Gunsmoke, old movies. I refuse to watch any TV news. Marxism is a bore. .

Nobody watches the shows. Why would anyone watch a show about awards for shows that they don't watch?

As #14 mentioned, I only have Netflix because of my brother's password. I almost never watch anything on it and nothing American made. All British shows. It's usually Britbox if we watch anything. They are better cast, better written, and the sets are dressed properly. There are a few British duds, but nothing like the American crap. I am old as dirt and the only news I watch is Fox and a local channel in Atlanta to keep up with their rising murder count.

Re: #15, I watch morning news until I get nauseated. I switch to looking at the Gunsmoke titles to see if I remember the episode (memorized them all). Mannix? Perry Mason? Branded? Bonanza? Old Rifleman episodes with that little spud Johnny ( you can't tell me he was Chuck's kid)? I'm ready for Paladin, Maverick , Alias Smith and Jones, any Thin Man movie, a few Andy Hardy's and checking out the bargains on QVC.

People are tired of watching rich, depraved people congratulating each other. Who cares? Most of the stuff they produce is terrible and full of propaganda. We want to be entertained, not lectured to or disgusted.

I haven't watched the Emmy or Oscar award shows in at least a couple decades now. But I do admit I will watch the red carpet pre shows every once in awhile. Now that the actresses are dressing up again, I enjoy watching that stuff. But the actual shows, not a chance.

They insult half the country and they only lose 25% of their audience. We need to work harder next year.

I read the list of nominees and realized that I didn't know any of the people on the list, nor had I seen any of the shows mentioned. Most of them are on HBO or Showtime and I have never seen a good reason to include the extra expense for either on my cable bill. I honestly couldn't tell you what channel the others are on and I don't particularly care, either.
Perhaps if the ratings sink low enough, they'll release them on Netflix or HBO and spare the rest of us the bother.
