Record high temperatures in urban Europe as heat waves bake the planet more often. Devastating floods, some in poorer unprepared areas. Increasing destruction from hurricanes. Drought and famine in poorer parts of Africa as dry spells worsen across the globe. Wild weather worldwide getting stronger and more frequent, resulting “in unprecedented extremes.” Sound like the last few summers? It is. But it was also the warning and forecast for the future issued by top United Nations climate scientists more than 10 years ago. In a report that changed the way the world thinks about the harms of global warming,

Seth Borenstein is AP's resident Goron, climate alarmist. Nothing SB writes is true--all Greeniac propaganda. You can ignore anything under his byline. It's all unrecyclable toxic garbage.

Weather has always changed. Heck, way back there, you could walk across what are now oceans. My 10th grade teacher (1962) told us "continents are always moving. One day California would be up where Alaska is now." So all this change has been in the works for millions of years. Now all these 'devastating' floods, I don't really believe they just started happening on their own, but that's just me.

Any mention of hurricanes in the article are cited from past years. No mention of this year's lack of hurricanes --- the least number in 50-60 years.

At nearly 70 I've heard alarmist predictions for over half a century. They get things right maybe twice a day.....at best. Good news doesn't sell copy or broadcast viewers. My advice - change the channels. SciFi is more accurate.

The honest scientists keep stating that there is NO proven link between climate change and more extreme weather. The actual statistics bear that out as CO2 has been rising but actual" extreme weather do NOT track with it.
It's a lie, just as all climate Alarmism is a lie.

Reminds me of the old economics joke - Economists have predicted 12 of the last 3 recessions.

Baloney.
The weather varies a lot.
Always has, always will.
Human activity has no affect on the climate.

That's the whole way global warming is going to work. We can't actually perceive any change but they will tell us it's hotter and the storms are more violent and the hurricanes are worse and the ice is melting and the oceans have risen. And when we point out it doesn't seem that way because the beach is still in the same place, summers don't feel hotter, winters aren't colder, same average amount of snow. They will say it's the ravings of old men and the young people won't know any better and will buy it all.

#7, some people, like Janet Yellen, can't predict a recession when it has already started. She is trying to make a forecast when she should be making an observation.

The AssPress strikes (out) again. The world has ended at least ten times since I was born, so why am I awake this morning and drinking coffee? If I remember correctly, 2012 was a movie, fictional science, just like Climate Change is.

if, on chance, they get something close to right they boast. when wrong ? Crickets.
when someone points out their failure "it is not and exact science"
I may be incorrect but I believe it was Richard Feynman who said something like - computer modelling always devolves into playing games.

When have they ever been correct? I’m the same age as #5 but I don’t ever remember a single one of their predictions actually happening.

If this crap was real, why are people allowed to build, get mortgages, or even get insurance on homes built on the beaches around the world? What bank would do that? They know it’s not real!

In the 1880s, 1920s and 1930s with much less population and automobiles than today if temperatures were recorded there were temperatures to rival today. Blame it on cow flatulence. This is the AP with some BS alarmist screed.

Perhaps WE should go back to predicting the coming weather by the cats and dogs...if my cat has a dropping of his summer coat early and building a thick winter coat...I think I'm safe to say...it will be an early winter and perhaps a little tough....he is as good at predicting the weather as these weather prognosticators ...

Seth Borenstein - - welcome back to Lucianne.com!
It's been a while since anyone posted one of your hysterical "hottest year ever!" rants. But - - you really shouldn't have written "Increasing destruction from hurricanes" - - not in a year when there have been no hurricanes - - NONE!
Anyhow - - I wish you continued hysteria - - and I look forward to the next "hottest year ever!" lunacy.

For every report of extreme weather in one or several places in the world on any given day, I can find one or several places where the weather is even 'less extreme' than normal.
They say "Global Warming!!!!"... I say "Global Equilibrium" For instance, the last three summers where I live, it has been cooler than the old normal. Used to be that I'd have about 20 days of over 100 degrees daytime temps. Three summers ago it was down to seven days, last summer it was five days, this summer it hit 100 for just a few minutes on ONE day. (south central New Mexico)
Five summers ago and most of the previous years, I pretty much had to run the cooler for several hours on 80% percent of the days, and sometimes overnight. Last year, I ran the cooler about 30% of the days, for a few hours, and once for a few hours in the night. This summer I've run the cooler maybe three hours at most on 15% of the days, and not at all at night.
For every 'abnormally' hot spot, I can find a place that is 'abnormally cool' at the same moment. Drought? For every place that is 'abnormally dry' I can find a place that is abnormally wet. Locally; Extreme, Globally; Equilibrium,
The main reason that most people especially 'scientists' think there is "Global Warming" is that they live and work in large cities that are giant solar heat sinks in general, and they seem to place their thermometers strategically in the hottest places in those cities... On airport runways, next to heat exchangers on skyscraper roofs. In the middle of mall parking lots, etc..
For every melting glacier I can find you an expanding icepack in the opposite side of the globe. Local Extremes; Global Equilibrium.
