DENVER — Monkeypox cases are rapidly rising in the U.S. Cases surpassed 14,000 this week. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced more supply of the limited vaccine is on the way but now, people are urging health leaders to distribute the medicine to communities who need it. Health officials have delivered messaging on the disease’s impact on people in the gay community, but new demographic data shows monkeypox is disproportionately affecting people of color. “Similar to the data we experienced and what we saw with COVID-19, we are seeing overrepresentation of cases among some of our BIPOC

Just in case you needed yet another reason not to take the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) seriously, this story should suffice. The agency released a study on Friday recommending that people wear face masks, among other measures, to avoid catching monkeypox. The problem? The precautions the CDC suggested do not line up with what the data shows about the spread of the illness. This week’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) contained research on the spread of the monkeypox virus through contaminated surfaces. The study centered on two patients who lived together and had contracted the virus.

On Thursday, a federal judge partially blocked a new state law in Florida aimed at eliminating political indoctrination from classrooms and workplaces, claiming that the law was unconstitutional. As reported by CNN, the 44-page ruling from U.S. District Judge Mark Walker determined that the Individual Freedom Act (IFA), also known as the “Stop WOKE Act,” “discriminates on the basis of viewpoint in violation of the First Amendment and is impermissibly vague in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.” As such, the ruling blocks the state from enforcing certain parts of the law, which went into effect on July 1st.

When the U.S. Supreme Court repealed in June a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion, Wisconsin’s 1849 law that bans the procedure except when a mother’s life is at risk became newly relevant. Republicans in the Legislature blocked an attempt by Democratic Gov. Tony Evers to overturn the law. Yet there’s disagreement inside the GOP over how to move forward when they return to the state Capitol in January. The state’s powerful Republican Assembly speaker, Robin Vos, supports reinforcing the exception for a mother’s life and adding protections for instances involving rape and incest.

During the hearing to determine if any of the documents used to get a warrant to raid Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, prosecutors told the judge that the investigation was in its “early stages” and argued to keep all of their documents secret for fear of giving the former president’s lawyers a “roadmap” to their case. Judge Bruce Reinhart said he was inclined to release some of the documents and gave the government one week to come up with a plan to determine which documents would be redacted, released, or remain sealed. “I’m not prepared to find the affidavit should be fully sealed,” he told attorneys for the media,

I remember back when George W. Bush was president and the mainstream media and Democrats (but I repeat myself) would relentlessly dog him whenever he went on vacation as though presidents are ever really “on vacation” whenever they take one. Presidents are, of course, almost always accessible in the event they are needed for official business while they’re on vacation, can make speeches, phone calls, send emails, etc., most anything they can do while at the White House. But there’s a big difference between the supposed leader of the free world taking a break each summer for some downtime and one who is absent from the Oval Office for some “time away”

Florida Man is a whole mood. We’re all used to the “weird news” coming out of Florida. A woman arrested for shaving her private parts…while driving. A man so desperate for a ride to Hooters he calls 911 for help. A dude who parked his smart car in his kitchen so it wouldn’t blow away in a hurricane (Is this whacky or brilliant? That call is up in the air). It’s a late night show punchline at this point. As an aside, one of the reasons we always see these stories coming out of Florida is because they don’t enact the same restrictions on media when it comes to arrests and reporting.

How do you know so-called transgender women aren’t real women? Because they act just like predatory men who, rather than having sympathy for women concerned when physically intact men invade their territory, revel in the ability to impose their will on these women. I once had a conversation with a strapping, athletic, and tall young man I was dating about how I, and women in general, feel vulnerable walking or traveling alone in many situations he took for granted. He had never thought about that wary anxiety women feel walking through a dimly lit parking lot at night, or turning around at footsteps,

The Democrats continue to weaponize the administrative state, from the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago to the vast expansion of the Internal Revenue Service. Shortly after Congress voted, with no Republican support, to expand the IRS by 87,000 new employees, Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff and Judy Chu of California introduced a bill to use the IRS as a vehicle to redefine infertility. (Snip) Under the Equal Access to Reproductive Care Act, same-sex couples and single men would be able to “deduct assisted reproductive care, including surrogacy, as a medical expense on their tax returns, without having to demonstrate a medical/physical infertility.”

One of former President Donald Trump’s strongest and most endearing personality traits is his relentless sense of humor. He’s a very funny guy. Depending on the day’s events and available subject matter, a television interview can come across like a sitcom script, sprinkled amongst some profound takes on political topics, and rants at some of his rallies can rival those of some of today’s best stand-up comedians. We’ve had humorous presidents before, with Ronald Reagan quickly coming to mind, but none at the level of Trump. And despite the intense friction in today’s political climate and national tensions having been ratcheted to previously unseen levels after last week’s outrageous Mar-a-Lago Raid,

Americans, good natured as they are, often assume that government agencies deserve an implicit trust from the public that they’re sworn to serve, and that they will not violate that trust. When they do, there have to be consequences. That’s certainly the case after our two-and-a-half year COVID-19 nightmare. It can no longer be denied that our government’s bureaucratic response to the dreaded Wuhan flu was inadequate at best, near-criminal at worst. And now the reckoning has begun. That can be seen in the Centers for Disease Control’s new “guidance” on COVID, which is essentially an institutional mea culpa
