Actor Alec Baldwin appeared on CNN after the latest developments in his fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a New Mexico movie set last October and once again showed that former President Donald J. Trump continues to live rent-free in his head. Following a newly-released FBI forensics report that concluded that the 64-year-old television and film star pulled the trigger on the “prop” gun that brought an end to Hutchins’ life during the filming of the western “Rust,” Baldwin played the victim by claiming that he feared that Trump would “instruct” his followers to act out violently against him after the tragic accident.

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa told Fox News on Friday that Mitch McConnell’s glum warning about the GOP’s Senate prospects in the midterms were an effort “to wake people up.” The Kentucky Republican Senator had said on Thursday, “I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different. They’re statewide. Candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome.” Many interpreted this as the minority leader attempting to downplay expectations, and were not pleased: But Grassley painted a rosier picture as he attended the Iowa State Fair:
We are going to take back the majority because of the fact

Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) said Friday on CNN’s “The Lead” that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo no longer had a moral center. Kinzinger said, “Here’s what I think happens in a lot of cases. this is the FBI situation with the Republicans. You have a lot of members that know Donald Trump is a liar. They know he is insane. They stay kind of quiet.” (snip) Kinzinger concluded, “I gotta ask you, Jake, if Trump is so tough, if he’s so good at everything he does, how has he been such a victim of the deep state so many times?"

Following a decision by the Minnesota Public Schools, a new policy has been enacted that will lay off white teachers first — if the district needs to downsize, white teachers will be fired first.
As my colleague Jeff Charles reported, the agreement states:
“Starting with the Spring 2023 Budget Tie-Out Cycle, if excessing a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers in the site, the District shall excess the next least senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population.”

“Street takeovers” are becoming quite common in Los Angeles and big cities. A mob of people and cars, responding to a prompt on social media, show up at an intersection and raise holy hell. Police try to break it up but are usually far too late.
Such was the case on August 15 when a flash mob showed up at Figueroa Street and El Segundo Boulevard. After a few minutes of causing mayhem on the streets, they moved into a 7-Eleven store like a swarm of locusts. They picked it clean of anything of value in a matter of minutes. CBSNews:
“Cars were just going everywhere,” said neighbor Lisa Trafton.

In a shocking report, the U.S. Census Bureau recently admitted that it overcounted the populations of eight states and undercounted the populations of six states in the 2020 census.
All but one of the states overcounted is a blue state, and all but one of the undercounted states is red.
Those costly errors will distort congressional representation and the Electoral College. It means that when the Census Bureau reapportioned the House of Representatives, Florida was cheated out of two additional seats it should have gotten; Texas missed out on another seat; Minnesota and Rhode Island each kept a representative they shouldn’t have; and Colorado was awarded a new member of

A whopping 4.9 million illegal immigrants have crossed our border since Biden has taken office, a report from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) found. The president of FAIR Dan Stein discussed the report, stating that “Roughly the equivalent of the entire population of Ireland has illegally entered the United States in the 18 months President Biden has been in office, with many being released into American communities.” He continued, saying “In that time, the Biden administration has blamed an unprecedented surge of illegal immigration on all sorts of external factors, except their own sabotage of our nation’s immigration laws.”(Snip)With 199,976 illegal immigrants entering in July,

According to an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Black student enrollment in American colleges and universities has declined dramatically in the past ten years, 24 percent in fact, from 2.5 million students in 2010 to 1.9 million in 2020.
Prior to that ten-year period, argues Chronicle reporter Oyin Adedoyin, “The story of Black college students in the USA was a narrative of success.” Judging only by numbers, Adedoyin is right. Black population on campus grew nine-fold from 1966 to 2010. The decline since 2010 puzzles administrators given the thousands of DEI officers they have hired and the myriad enticements they have offered to Black students.

Migrants arriving in New York City from the border will be housed temporarily in this luxury Manhattan hotel - the $700-a-night The Row in the tourist hotspot of Times Square, but they'll be assigned to ring-fenced floors and will be told to use a separate entrance to the tourists being charged top dollar to stay there.
Popular with people traveling for business and pleasure, The Row - described on travel review sites as 'merging NYC's grit with grandeur' - will become a hub for housing migrants on the taxpayers' dime in the coming weeks.

A liberal Democrat public defender destroyed Crying Capitol Police Sergeant Aquilino Gonell in cross examination and in closing statements at a January 6th defendant’s trial this past week.(Photo) Gonell humiliated himself and likely committed perjury as he was aggressively cross examined by Natasha Taylor-Smith. Taylor-Smith is the rare talented and fair public defender that was assigned to January 6th political prisoner Kyle Fitzsimons.

Sixty percent of Democrats view outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) favorably amid potential presidential campaign ambitions, a YouGov poll found this week.
After Cheney lost the Wyoming Republican primary by nearly 40 points on Tuesday, the next day she announced she is considering a presidential bid in 2024.
Perhaps Cheney’s best hope of winning the presidency is with Democrat voters because her favorability among Democrats far outweighs her support among Republicans and independents.

In another women’s sport, another biological male competes with women. As we saw with Lia Thomas, the transgender who dominated in women’s swimming but lost badly in men’s swimming, and as we saw with Laurel Hubbard, the transgender who competed in the women’s Olympic weight lifting competition. Hubbard lost, but the media turned it into a “historic” achievement because Hubbard became the first transgender to compete in the Olympics. Hubbard won the University of Otago “sportswoman of the year award.” Thomas was nominated for NCAA “Woman of the Year.”

This is the next step in the game that opened with repeal of Roe. The GOP talks a good game, and now it has to deliver...but exactly what? It's up to 50 state legislatures and eventually the courts to decide this, and it will be a quiltwork that will lead to increasing demands to Federalize the law. And what will the GOPe do? As Mitch is so fond of saying, "The best we could..."
