Attorneys for Gibson's Bakery and the Gibson family have once again filed documents with the Ohio Supreme Court opposing Oberlin College's request to halt payment of the more than $36 million the college owes the family and their business after losing a lawsuit.(Snip)It's too late for the college to ask the court to rescue it from paying the nearly $32 million in damages and attorney fees Miraldi awarded the Gibsons, plus another $4.5 million in interest and counting, their attorneys wrote. There is no reason for this court to now entertain Oberlin's motion when its own inaction has already directed the outcome in this matter," the Gibsons argued.

They’re deliberately stalling, hoping to wear them down.

The Ohio Supreme Court should demand Oberlin pay from their overstuffed endowment accounts ASAP! If they don’t pay, put a lock in all their funding and shut the college down!

this is one of the worst legal travesties in the past 100 years and Gibson's being a mere peon, legitimately owned and operated facility deserves better treatment from the courts

The Judge should start sub-dividing the University, gifting Gibson's Bakery with the Gender Studies Building, followed by the Journalism Building, then the Political Science Building, and then the Philosophy Building, etc. Yes, start by giving Gibson's the uber-leftist enclaves FIRST.

I think the CHRONICLE-TELEGRAM is an adverising sheet masquerading as a newspaper. I tried to read the Gibson story about collecting a judgement against Oberlin and got nowhere. I'll find a better source elsewhere.

Why will no court make them actually pay this lawful judgement?

It would seem that a legal action "attaching" some of their buildings, to be sold to pay off the lawful debt would be the next move. Probably a couple of dozen buildings would be worth the $36 million. Get a "sheriff's sale" auction out front and start selling off the Oberlin buildings.
That should be legal and would either get the money from the scofflaws or collect it via selling off their assets until the debt is paid.

Don't you seize assets at this point? In this case the college itself.

Oberlin administrators must have attended the seminar given by Jussie Smollett about how to avoid legal punishment through chicanery and shenaniganizing. They learned their lesson well. They're getting away with it. The first requirement is a court that allows it...

#6 Legal Insurrection is an excellent source on this story.
I am an alum (of the Conservatory) who patronized Gibson's regularly (we all did) and I am more than furious to see this disgrace.
Money isn't nearly enough, though it should be paid NOW, and it looks like they will stall until facing jailtime.
The College owes the Gibsons a letter of abject apology.
Everyone at the College who had a hand in this travesty needs to resign immediately, starting with the President.
The College, monitored by court-appointed monitors, should develop a series of seminars explaining to their student the crime and the culpability. Complete attendance should be a grduation requirement. These seminars should run until the last student who was there during this offense or the following litigation has left.
The College should refund in full all money, tuition, room, fees, of any student who withdraws short of graduation. This refund policy should be offered to all students who were present while this offense was taking place or being litigated.
The shame is deep, and the restitution must be comprehensive.

The court should order payment to the Gibsons of the full amount owing, payable from the appeals bond the college obtained from Zurich American Insurance Co. to guarantee payment. No need to foreclose on Oberlin bank accounts or liens on property.
