Most of a Florida law that sought to stop social media companies from restricting users’ political speech violates the companies’ free speech rights and cannot be enforced, a federal appeals court ruled on Monday, agreeing with a lower court.
However, a three-judge panel of the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals revived a part of the law requiring companies like Meta Platforms’ Facebook, Alphabet Google and Twitter to disclose the standards they use to moderate content on their platforms. The unanimous decision was authored by Circuit Judge Kevin Newsom, who was appointed by Republican former President Donald Trump.

Judy Garland's iconic blue-and-white gingham dress from the "Wizard of Oz" was expected to sell at auction before the sale was blocked by a U.S. district judge Monday after a Wisconsin woman filed a lawsuit claiming she was the rightful owner of the dress.
The dress originally had a presale estimate of $800,000 to $1.2 million, set by auctioneer Bonhams. It was put up for sale in Los Angeles by the Catholic University of America as part of an auction specifically for Hollywood memorabilia. The dress had been rediscovered in a shoebox by a university lecturer and operations manager after having been assumed lost for decades,

Curtis Heide was the lead agent in the FBI’s Chicago field office back in 2016. Today he testified at Michael Sussmann’s trial and mentioned that he is currently under internal investigation by the FBI for possibly withholding exculpatory evidence in portions of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.
Heide said he was under investigation for “not identifying exculpatory information as it pertained to one of the Crossfire Hurricane investigations,” referring to the FBI codename for the early phases of the Trump-Russia probe, before special counsel Robert Mueller took over in 2017.
He said he was specifically being investigated for potentially withholding material from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which oversees wiretaps against Americans.

ROME — A flurry of U.S. bishops have rallied behind San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, who has barred Nancy Pelosi from receiving Holy Communion because of her aggressive abortion advocacy.
As of May 23, at least 13 U.S. bishops have made public statements praising and thanking Archbishop Cordileone for the move, which was variously described as “courageous,” “heroic,” and “compassionate.”
Lincoln Bishop James Conley, for instance, said he supports Archbishop Cordileone “in his courageous pastoral outreach to a member of his flock. His actions are made as a shepherd with the heart of Christ.”

On Monday morning, as Streiff reported, an organization called Consumers First published information regarding a partnership between State Farm and The GenderCool Project to “have ‘550 agents and employees’ nationwide donate a 3-book bundle about Being Transgender, Inclusive and Non-Binary to their ‘local teacher, community center or library of their choice.'” (snip) Understandably, the news upset many of State Farm’s customers, and they made their feelings known. The San Francisco Examiner's editorial board wrote a scathing rebuke of the city’s archbishop, Salvatore Cordileone, after he announced he would deny Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Holy Communion, over her staunch support for abortion. (snip) In response, the liberal editorial board blasted the Catholic leader for "punishing" Pelosi, instead of "right-wing politicians" who "[vote] against health care or funding for the poor."
They defended Pelosi as a leader who has "consistently fought on the morally right side of these issues," and praised her as a role model for women.
The editorial board argued that by denying Pelosi Holy Communion, the archbishop wasn’t being loyal to Christ.

A city council in Kansas has voted to walk back a measure that mandated the removal of “In God We Trust” decals from police vehicles after constituents pushed back against the ban, KWCH reported.
At the May 2 council meeting in Haven, Councilmember Sandra Williams made a motion to nix the “In God We Trust” decals in addition to bible scripture posted to the Haven Police Department (HPD) Facebook page, the outlet previously noted. The motion resulted in a unanimous five to zero vote to remove both the decals — which officers purchased themselves months ago — and the scripture from the Facebook page.

ROME — San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said Friday that he was “guided by the principles articulated by Pope Francis” in his decision to bar House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from receiving Holy Communion because of her aggressive abortion advocacy.
In a lengthy interview with Gloria Purvis, Archbishop Cordileone insisted that he cannot judge Ms. Pelosi’s conscience, but “to be so aggressively promoting it — that’s not what a devout Catholic does. So I believe in her heart, she feels that way, but there is a disconnect on this issue.”
