Pope Francis recently shocked many by positing parity between Vladimir Putin and Russia on one hand, and Ukraine and NATO on the other. The Holy Father insisted both are to blame for the raging war.
In stark contrast to the "Holy Alliance" of Saint John Paul II, Ronald Reagan, and Margaret Thatcher who deployed a brilliant strategy to defeat Soviet communism, Jorge Mario Bergoglio has been channeling his youthful leftism again in a bumbling effort to relate to Russia.

What if this war could have been through diplomacy. Would not have that been better? Was Putin another communist zealot who wanted to control all of Europe or a paranoid Nationalist who wanted to restore Russia influence in the region?
I believe there is plenty of room for criticism on how the West taunted Putin. There was no National interest in pushing for Ukraine membership in NATO or the EU. It also did not help when the Democrats lied about Putin throwing the 2016 election. What if we first tried to resolve the tension by diplomacy? The two countries have much in common culturally.
Bottom line. The war hawks have made Putin much more popular https://www.newsweek.com/vladimir-putin-approval-rating-increase-russia-1693521. The USA more weak and the Russo-Sino alliance much stronger.
Job well done to Brandon and the establishment Republicans.

if this is such a legit military intervention, why has Zhou not presented the case to US citizens? Why did the “north atlantic “ partnership ( ha ) extend to Russia’s front door ? There is a treaty declaration we signed , and broke . Why are we involved in this uke civil war ?

When the Pope injects himself into worldly affairs and issues that are outside of traditional religious Catholic doctrine and teachings, he can be either right or wrong like any other socialist elite person. So it has been considered that when a Pope does that, he is not considered to be infallible and is just another opinionated person.
In that respect, as an example, it appears that both the Pope and Biden are in lockstep with Biden disregarding the US immigration laws, resulting in the USA being flooded with poor and uneducated irregular migrants (illegal aliens) with about 2/3rds of all Americans believing that the Pope’s and Biden’s “open borders” policies that are contrary to established US Immigration laws are wrong. The Pope has taken the same “open borders” position when it comes to Europe allowing unlimited numbers of foreigners from Africa and the Middle East being allowed to flood into Europe.

What is the benefit to the us of having Ukraine in nato? I know Ukraine wants in but that’s true of the 2,000,000 invaders the us took in- they all wanted in except for ones being human or sex trafficked (but even they probably preferred being exploited in the US).
So what’s in it for me to have Ukraine in nato against all the food and energy disruptions and risk of use of nuclear weapons and money to pay their bureaucrats’ salaries now that their economy is destroyed?
Especially since the EU gave putin the money to pay for his invasion so they could imagine that their hands were clean of filthy oil and gas.
I’m trying to be open minded but I don’t see what the benefit is and i see lots of risks and losses from pushing the issue.
Especially since the bidet family was looting Ukraine. I would want a full accounting of that before committing more losses to Ukraine.
To hell with this pope but why is the US funding this war and why did the US push for this war against the 12+ years of putin saying that he viewed the nato scheme as an act of war? We just can have anybody say no? The $3.5 million paid to huncher was not shared with peelousey?
Somebody please explain including the facts since 2008 leading up to the invasion.

Sometimes the Pope gets it right. Ukraine should be at the table negotiating rather than piling up the bodies. (If only the US would permit it.)

Ukraine was not going to be allowed to join NATO. Membership is not granted to a country that is already engaged in border disputes or hostilities. Countries apply for membership in NATO and the EU, and those requests can be granted or denied if the conditions are not met. The number one reason that eastern European countries have sought membership is to deter being invaded by Putin's Russia. They would rather be allied with and trade with the West rather than be subjugated by a totalitarian dictator. Remember, the Berlin wall was built to keep East Berliners in, not West Berliners out. Russia is dark, sinister, paranoid, and evil. The rest of the countries of Europe want to build things and sell them to each other [freedom], while Russia wants to take or destroy.

For once, Francis and I agree on something, for the most part. Sorry if I'm not draping myself in a Ukrainian flag and urging America to war as "Leader of the Free World"...whatever that is anymore. It's well past time to heed George Washington, that raging pacifist and uber-liberal First President of the United States, who warned about involvement in European affairs, perpetual alliances, and "friendship"
"Europe has a set of primary interests, which to us have none, or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves, by artificial ties, in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics, or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities."
"Excessive partiality for one foreign nation, and excessive dislike of another, cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side... The duty of holding a neutral conduct may be inferred, without any thing more, from the obligation which justice and humanity impose on every nation, in cases in which it is free to act, to maintain inviolate the relations of peace and amity towards other nations."
Time for the US to wise up.

The Pope has dehumanized Putin in this manner. In effect, the Pope is calling Putin a single-celled protozoa that is only able to react to outside stimuli. And the reaction is predictable, so whoever it was who provided that triggering stimuli is ultimately to blame because Putin lacks human agency. He must do as he is programmed to do.

The Pope has tried to be even-handed. He already said that the suffering of the Ukrainians is more or less inexcusable and that it keeps him awake, that he was going to go to Putin, or even that zany Russian Patriarch, to try to plead for the Ukrainians. Now he is saying something a lot of sane people say, which is that US partisans put the Ukrainians in a bad spot. Both of those can be true. The best interests of the Ukrainians is to position for diplomacy, not play Ain't it Awful for a partisan audience.

Maybe the Pope could explain why none of Russia's former Warsaw Pact allies seem to want to have anything to do with it, and chose to join NATO. Or maybe he is too stupid to notice that the West is not having to invade any country to get them to join NATO or the EU, countries request membership. Or perhaps the idiot Pope can explain why millions of Ukranian civilians would rather flee their homes during winter with only what they can carry than have to live under Putin's ''leadership''. He might think that he is being cute with his ''everyone is to blame equally'' and expressing his ''I'm above-it-all'' sentiment, but it is apparent that he is ill-informed and doesn't know what he is talking about. NATO is a defensive alliance and Ukraine was not a threat to Russia. The idea that Ukraine was a threat to Russia is delusional.
