Forty years ago we had a soaring inflation rate, obscene gas prices and interest rates in the teens. Today, thanks to their incredible incompetence, bad policies and serial stupidity, the Democrats in Washington are bringing back all those problems. It’s getting so bad, I’m actually beginning to think Jimmy Carter was not such a bad president after all. People under 40 have no idea how bad things were in the late 1970s under Carter. They’ve grown up knowing only 3 percent interest rates, dirt cheap gasoline and 2 percent inflation. They don’t know how miserable things were under Carter or how miserable they can get again under Biden.

Comments:

Those who remember Carter recall LBJ, Nixon and Ford...with profligate guns-and-butter spending, wage-price controls, the beginning of fiat currency, and WIN (Whip Inflation Now) buttons. Carter was awful and in many ways victim of his predecessors. Biden deserves scorn and derision, but let's not dismiss the contributions of his predecessor and Congress, who appropriated TRILLIONS to balloon the national debt and get the inflation train rolling out of the station. It took 15 years to get the last bout of inflation under control. It takes political guts to raise interest rates to the point necessary. Back then that was 20% on a mortgage! To quote Ronald Reagan, I fear "we ain't seen nothing yet."

Me too #1. Attack rabbits, "wear a sweater," Iran, and all Mr Peanut don't hold a candle to "The Big Guy." Carter is probably giddy knowing he will no longer be known as the worst President of the modern era now.

On Jan. 20, 1977 my husband came home from work around 6 pm, and I was crying up a storm in front of the TV. Husband asked 5 y/o son, ''What'd you do to your mama?'' Son replied that he didn't do anything. ''Mama's crying because there is a new President Ford!'' It was on every channel!!

Nothing that Pence or Kinzinger couldn’t fix, but first they’d have to suffer the indignity of holding their peace while the Dem opponent gives his (her, its?) concession speech. But maybe starting a good war would do the trick.

The similarities between Jimmah and Bitme are accidental. Carter was incompetent, but he was not compromised by china and Ukraine. His family scandal was only an idiot brother who never boarded AF One and never got paid in anything but beer. Neither Carter nor his party nor (mostly) his voters wanted to oversee the actual destruction of the USA to supplant our Constitutional Republic with a communist oligarchy. The woke idiots, they want this chaos. True, few know what they're actually in for, but the wokesters actually want this.

The sinking of Russia's flagship might

It's tempting for Americans to get smug about the sinking of the Moskva, the Russian Navy's flagship in the Black Sea. Whether it was destroyed by Ukrainians or — less plausibly — sunk because of a non-combat onboard explosion of ammunition, the result is both a humiliation and a setback for Vladimir Putin's war efforts. If you're cheering Ukraine's defenders, it's hard not to take some satisfaction in that. But America's fleet might also be more vulnerable than you think.

The resolution, introduced by Rep. Gerald Connolly, a Democrat from Virginia, was backed by a majority of the GOP caucus and every Democrat who voted. Citing the threat posed by "authoritarian regimes" as well as "internal threats from proponents of illiberalism," the resolution calls on the Biden administration to uphold NATO's "founding democratic principles." President Joe Biden's approval rating has been underwater since August and currently stands at 42% per FiveThirtyEight. His unpopularity combined with inflation, security problems and other concerns are likely to help Republicans win House seats this fall.

Republicans have long had a toughness fetish. Going back to the early days of the Cold War, its flip side has been the insinuation that Democrats are weaklings ready to sell out the country to its enemies, with the GOP eager to serve proudly and unapologetically as America's lone defenders abroad. No one should be surprised that the script has already been updated to account for recent distressing events on the border separating Russia and Ukraine.

This is a response to an opinion piece by Janan Najeeb that mistakenly characterized the Latinx struggle for fair maps and equal representation in Milwaukee as a threat to Muslim voting rights or representation ("Milwaukee's Muslims simply want to be fairly represented by the Common Council," Jan. 30). The struggle for the freedom of communities of color to have a fair and equal voice in our city can never be won if we allow ourselves to be manipulated by politicians who use the tactic of divide and conquer to pit one oppressed group against another.

A little over a decade ago, two researchers at Wharton published a paper showing that, despite women’s increasing work and educational opportunities, their self-reported happiness was in steady decline. Back in 1970, women were on average happier than men; they are now less happy than men. Broadly, since 1970, everyone has gotten more miserable. But the decline in women’s overall happiness has outpaced men’s, and the happiness curve inverted sometime in the early 1990s. The paper also documents increasing anxiety and neuroticism, as well as decreasing social cohesion among women.
