We first heard of this story in late January. A New Mexico woman named Alexis Avila had just given birth to a baby boy. Allegedly, she then placed the baby into a garbage bag and “tossed” the bag into a dumpster, an incident that was caught on video and widely viewed across the country. It was heartbreaking to watch.
Once discovered by passersby, the infant was taken via helicopter to a nearby hospital where he was treated for severe hypothermia. During a subsequent hearing, prosecutors stated:
“In my 27 years of doing this, I have never seen anyone, child or adult, have a temperature that was not read with a digital thermometer.”

The city’s beleaguered subway riders were reeling Tuesday after the mass shooting on a Brooklyn train — with some saying the latest horrific crime has convinced them to quit the transit system for good.
“I’m done. I’m done with riding the train. It’s just not worth it,” 29-year-old finance worker Shirley Shao said while waiting for a train at Canal Street in Tribeca, Manhattan.
“Every time I go in there, I worry in the back of my mind of someone attacking me while my back is turned,” she said of the underground system.

Most elected Democrats seemed to have gotten the memo back in February that continued COVID restrictions were politically untenable moving forward, so a new normal was abruptly declared. People who'd inveighed against Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin's sensible school masking policy in Virginia just days earlier suddenly decided the time had come to move toward similar or identical policies elsewhere. Hell, even Doctor Anthony Fauci is starting to sound like something of a libertarian on these matters these days:
Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medical adviser to the White House, said Americans should continue assessing risk for themselves as COVID-19 cases tick up.

This was an especially difficult decision for our esteemed “Knucklehead of the Week Committee,” with some of the fiercest competition we’ve seen yet. Since it came down to a choice between President Joe Biden and CNN’s Brian Stelter, we were guaranteed that regardless of the ultimate selection we were going to have a repeat honoree. Ultimately, the evidence that our Commander-in-Chief should be the one to be recognized – again – was too overwhelming to ignore. And someday when our request for funding is approved, Biden’s buffoonery this week most certainly earned him a distinguished position on the Mount Rushmore of Knuckleheads.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has tested positive for COVID-19, her office announced Thursday.
Pelosi (D-Calif.), who is fully vaccinated and boosted, is asymptomatic and quarantining, chief of staff Drew Hammill tweeted.
“The Speaker will quarantine consistent with CDC guidance, and encourages everyone to get vaccinated, boosted and test regularly,” he added in a second post.
Pelosi’s positive test result comes the same week that the speaker attended several events with President Biden, standing directly next to him as he signed an executive order related to the Affordable Care Act on Tuesday — as well as during the signing of a postal reform bill on Wednesday.

With all the recent coverage surrounding Lia Thomas and the recent passage of Florida’s notoriously under-read Parental rights in education bill I have once again been drawn back to numerous water cooler chats and online debates, both solicited and not. In fact, just a few months ago I had an incident at work that moved the discussion of gender identity, specifically the use of preferred pronouns, that had the potential to move this subject out of the realm of personal debate.
We all have seen the explosive use of listing one’s preferred pronouns in Twitter bios and email signature blocks, and it seems that this latest rage

Between 2018 and 2020, California passed two so-called “corporate diversity” bills intended to put more women and minorities on the boards of directors for corporations having headquarters in the state. AB 826 required corporations to have an increasing number of women on their boards, up to as many as three if the board had six or more members. Then came AB 979, which mandated that boards have at least one member of an “underrepresented community” by the end of 2021. Companies found to not be in compliance would be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Jon Stewart isn’t your typical, leftist comedian/talk show host. For one thing, Jon Stewart walked away from an extremely successful stint on Comedy Central with “The Daily Show” in 2015 at the ripe old age of 52, not a common career path for leftists who love money but pretend to hate capitalism. But what is most notable about Stewart’s career is that he was actually funny, and at times hilarious. Check out this video for an example. Yet we learned this week that, apparently, Stewart’s decision to reduce his workload seven years ago had the unforeseen side effect of also reducing his common sense.

CNN lost its credibility years ago, going back to at least the Obama Administration, but probably even earlier. But during the Bush and Obama years, there was a lingering sense of trust for some Americans, allowing CNN to keep its audience to weak but respectable levels.
When Donald Trump arrived on the scene in 2015, CNN and every other mainstream media outlet promoted and then exploited Trump Derangement Syndrome to the point that anyone afflicted with TDS was tuning in constantly to learn about how “the walls are closing in” with the outlandish Russia Hoax.
But Trump is no longer in the White House, having been replaced by a complete buffoon

I’m torn between skepticism and credulity. On the one hand, this comes from Charles Gasparino, a correspondent for Fox Business. CNN has done so much unflattering coverage of Fox over the past five years that I imagine it’d be irresistible to a Fox reporter to amplify an unflattering rumor about their new streaming project. Even if there’s no hard evidence to support it.
On the other hand, a concept like CNN+ seems doomed to fail quickly, no? Which demographic out there is willing to pay money for more content from a cable network that’s chronically in third place in the ratings? Fox and MSNBC at least can leverage hardcore partisan bases.

A new political action committee led by parents to counter the legalization of drugs, particularly marijuana, will launch in Colorado on Tuesday.
The PAC, Protect Our Kids, is made up of parents adamantly opposed to recent policies at state and federal levels to decriminalize drugs, such as marijuana and psychedelics. It’s the brainchild of Luke Niforatos, the executive vice president of the anti-marijuana legalization group Smart Approaches to Marijuana.

For Germany, their greatest national sin is undoubtedly the Holocaust. But for most other Western countries, including the United States, slavery is the single most reprehensible aspect of a nation’s history. This notion holds true for Great Britain, France, Spain, and scores of others. Slavery was a horrific crime against humanity. But like the Holocaust, slavery was unique in its horror, and drawing comparisons of other injustices to it are almost always ill-advised. So too is the practice of attributing modern phenomena as being remnants of slavery, because in doing so we trivialize the brutality of that horrible institution.
