America’s Founding Fathers at the Constitutional Convention knew any form of government they created would become corrupt. (snip) known abuses that would arise were the reason for the Amendment process being able to take two distinct routes. One through Congress, before proposed Amendments reached the states. The other was strictly through the states, giving Congress no role other than calling for a Convention of the States.
The Founders, in essence, gave a third option they did not have when rebelling against Britain. The power of the states to curtail governmental abuse.

A convention of states can be a bit of a loose cannon, and it might or might not produce the desired results. Seems to me that only one constitutional amendment need be added: "There shall be no acceptable interpretation of the Constitution or Bill or Rights other than to reaffirm that intended by the original founders."

Good idea number 1 but you know democrats will stack the deck either way we go. They just got a pedophile supporter into the supreme court. They are strangling children in school with masks. Your proposed amendment is excellent but I also think a convention of states is a good idea. At this point we need to try pretty much anything we can think of.

Term Limits will hopefully be the #1 item on the agenda, 2 terms for a Senator, 4 terms for Congress, then get a real job!

Since congress would never vote for it themselves, term limits should be included, and drastically cut their time in office. I am a little leery also of what some on the left or Rinos could push into the final product.

Although a convention is gaining popularity, I think it is dangerous. The left is running most of the institutions, media and law enforcement now, and half the states are blue.
Our 200 yr old Constitution serves us very well because it's a foundation for our society, not minute details. Its being torn apart by the same people who would rule a convention.
Imagine having clauses to exempt some people or activities we are now guaranteed.
The 1st Amendment - except when it hurts someone's feelings or speaks against appointed officials
the 2nd amendment - is for a militia well regulated by the ATF
The 4th Amendment - security in your homes, places, and effects unless you have dangerous items in your home.
as identified by the CDC.
Etc, etc.
I could play Devil's Advocate for every amendment. Leave the Constitution alone.

Interesting.
If there is a convention, how many representatives would each state have and how would they be selected? Do they come from state legislatures? If it's based on population, the big states would run it.
Beware the law of unintended consequences.

People. with a convention of States, the final work product has to be approved by the States. If there's bad stuff in there, don't vote for it.

Thank you, Nr 8. I was beginning to wonder if any of the commenters had even read this article. You are right. Click on the Convention of States Link in the article. They are proposing a limited agenda. Once the convention is called, then the debates and haggling begin. The finished product still has to be presented you the state legislatures for their approval. There are plenty of safeguards. When one thinks of the wisdom of our Founding Fathers, one cannot deny that God used them as a blessing to many generations.

Convention of States - Hopefully the Convention would be covered live for all to see. I foresee five issues to be under discussion. Constraining the Fed - the number one issue. Term limits for all - the second issue. Reeximation of the right of the press - third issue. Ability to fire members of the Bureaucracy - fourth issue. District of Columbia cannot become a state - fifth issue. There would be exploding heads everywhere. Imagine Mika and Joe, Joyless Reid, Stelter, Madcow and company. The uneducated would be screaming from the rafters. A glorious sight to see.

I really don't want AOC, Pelosi, Schiff of Schumer messing with the Constitution. It is very hard to see how it can be improved. Merely saying "Corruption will not be allowed" does nothing we can't do now. What we need is judges to read to enumerated power with respect to commerce section and apply it as written.

This is how the Constitutiont gets put back the way it was intended.
KEY POINT, A Convention of States is NOT a Constitutional Convention. Nothing can "get out of control and wreck everything".
The ONLY thing that a Convention of States can do is to propose Constitutional Amendments, which then have to undergo the exact same process of ratification by 3/4 of the states' legislatures (38 states) as amendments proposed by Congress.
The only difference is that this bypasses the Congressional blockade against increasing state powers and decreasing DC's powers. The sort of Amendments that we need will NEVER be passed in Congress, they can only come via a COS because Congress doesn't give a damn about the people, they want THEIR power, the Deep State power.
Here is Mark Levin's list of proposed Constitutional Amendments which could be proposed by a Convention of States. I think that they are pretty well thought out. He has a book out, worth reading called The Liberty Amendments. You can find his introduction, and explanation on his site as a pdf,,,,basically the first 20% of the book, for free.
Here's a listing of Levin's list of possible amendments, and a brief summary of why for each.

From the article:
"A Convention can only create the wording for proposed Amendments, not pass them. Any Amendment that comes out of a Convention will still need to be voted on by state legislatures, just as they do to have a Convention or pass other Amendments that have come out of Congress.
Since a Convention cannot pass anything, time is given to carefully scrutinize the wording. There is no magic that surpasses the states, and nothing can be forced upon them from a Convention."
That should set most folks worries to rest. The CoS can pass NOTHING, except the wording of a proposed amendment - which still has to pass the vote of 38 state legislatures. That should easily prevent any crazy stuff from passing.
Get Levin's book, it's a good set of ideas.

A balanced budget amendment might come in handy. But this would require America to reinstate backing the dollar with gold. Too little too late, I'm afraid.

This is playing with fire, especially if one believes the ‘20 election was rigged and others in the future will be. It’s not the Constitution but those who protect our rights. Who might that be today?
The President?
His executive branch, particularly law enforcement agencies like FBI? How about Homeland Security?
Oh, sure, the judiciary will, like those FISA courts have already demonstrated.
Maybe the legislative branch, Congress.
Play with fire and see what it gets…

Re #17, who cares about the blue states? Let them stay home.
The Convention can be called by a vote of 34 states. I think we have that many that would support it. Take out 16 states, say California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, New York, Mass, RI, Conn, Vermont, Maryland, ....and you only have used up 10 states of the 16 that you can "lose" and still get the convention going. Again NOT a Constitutional Convention, can only propose amendments. And if by some impossible way...a crazy amendment is approved....it isn't going to get 38 states to support it.
Seems pretty doable. Remember this is STATES not POPULATION, so California doesn't get 55 votes and Wyoming 1, or New York doesn't get 29 votes and Kansas only 6.....each state gets ONE vote.
Huge difference. This is REAL Federalism, not the centralized DC Deep State power that we have been being flogged with for our whole lives. We'd still have to convince 38 state legislatures to support any amendments....and THAT might be the hardest part.

Given the authoritarian impulses of the left, and their large share of the voting population that would send the delegations to the convention, conservatives have to be out of their minds to support this.
Think your precious schemes of state autonomy and legally-mandated balanced budgets would go through? Likelier result would be amendments of the Bill of Rights authorizing imprisonment of all of us. Love all of you, but get wise. This is not a movie.

Last chance while we still have a majority of red states. Once the illegals are dispersed to key counties a few red states could turn blue forever. Clarifying the second amendment to remove any doubt might be the one change that forever guarantees all the others.

And for you who fear the left controlling the agenda now, what do you propose if they call a convention of states in a few years on their own with a majority of states that turned blue from illegal immigration? There will be no stopping them at that point.

if elections are rigged this would be risky, while if they are fixed it is not necessary. fair elections are necessary and sufficient for reform. the advocates are lost in a fantasy of the eighteenth century imo. want to run a reenactment of Philadelphia with selves in key roles. Go away.

"Apparently, some believe Congress has a better idea of what is happening outside Washington, than the states. Yet, it is the states who bear the burden of their recklessness. ... " Congress has only a scintilla of knowing how to do anything right and especially now that the communist element is so prevalent in that body of losers and traitors, in both houses - we must eliminate the communist element at all levels of government in our country and get back to the patriotism of the 40's when we had to stick together or else be submerged in defeat, just like we are now - bring back the Civics classes of the 40's and 50's

When the 1787 constitutional convention was held, the operative document required unanimous votes from the States to change anything. One state didn't even bother to send a delegation, believing that would stop the process.
The first thing the convention delegates did was to eliminate the unanimous vote requirement.
Anything can happen at a constitutional convention. And no one can be certain of the final product.

First new Amendment = Term Limits for Elected Reps and Senators
Second new Amendment = Federal bureaucracies must be based outside DC according to lowest State economies.

I think it's not a good idea...on the top it sounds good, but when you lift the lid on the can it is dangerous. As I understand it, if a Convention is called, each state names it's attendees...it would be heavily democrat and they could actually gut the Bill of Rights as we know it today....

Term limits is a good start. However, to really rein in government, those leaving office cannot gain a position in any company or firm that does business with government or in any company or firm with a consulting role in government.

Re #26. NO, it is NOT a "Constitutional Convention". Why to intelligent people refuse to educate themselves and continue this misinformation?
Delegations to a Convention of States have NO POWERS to give themselves any different or added powers. NONE. They could try, but they have no authority under the Article V which defines what a Convention of States is.
All they can do is propose language for an amendment to the constitution, which then has to pass 38 state legislatures. NOTHING ELSE. If 100% of them voted on anything else....it means nothing at all.
