The Ohio 9th District Court of Appeals has just issued a decision in the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College case. For those of you new to the case, Gibson’s Bakery was a 5th generation family business in Oberlin, Ohio, near the Oberlin College campus. It served baked goods to the public and also to the student dining service, as well as operating a general convenience store. As with many other small businesses, student shoplifting was epidemic, as we covered, Student journalist: Shoplifting at Gibson’s Bakery was part of Oberlin College’s “Culture of Theft”

FTA: “A store clerk, a member of the Gibson family, caught an Oberlin black student shoplifting, a scuffle ensued that was joined by two other Oberlin black students. When the police arrived, they arrested the students who eventually plead guilty. But before that, the college officials and students accused the bakery of racial profiling, called a boycott, suspended Gibson’s business with the college, and organized protests outside the bakery.
“At the protests, a flyer was handed out, according to witnesses who testified at trial, by Dean of Students Meredith Raimondo, who also handed out stacks of flyers for others to distribute. The flyers accused the Gibsons of a long history of racial profiling, including in the incident with these shoplifters. The Gibson’s disputed that allegation and that they did anything wrong in this incident, and requested a public apology from the college in order to repair the reputational damage, but the college refused. (To this day it never has apologized.)
“Based on the actions of college officials in conveying and promoting the defamatory accusations, a lawsuit was filed, resulting in massive verdicts for the owners of the bakery, David Gibson and his father, Allyn Gibson. Legal Insurrection was the only national media outlet to have someone in the courtroom reporting, including when the verdicts came down:”

Just a tiny bit of punishment for the evil thugs who run this hellish, racist, hate-school where they ruin minds with their hate, racism and anti-American communist brainwashing.

Oberlon is a bastion of theft. Not surprising when you consider that libtard addled minds go there and chant gimme, gimme, gimme.

There's a reason that God included "Do not steal" in His Commandments so that the Israelites could have an orderly society. Isn't it ironic that "Oberlin was to be a pious, simple-living community in a sparsely populated area, of which the school, training ministers and missionaries, would be the centerpiece. Their vision was:
A community of Christian families with a Christian school which should be "a center of religious influence and power which should work mightily upon the surrounding country and the world — a sort of missionary institution for training laborers for the work abroad" — the school to be conducted on the manual labor system, and to be open to both young men and young women. It was not proposed to establish a college but simply an academy for instruction in English and useful languages; and, if providence should favor it, in "practical Theology". In accordance with this plan the corporate name, "Oberlin College Institute"[,] was chosen.[" (all quoted from the Wikipedia entry for Oberlin)
Now, Oberlin is anti Christian and a den of thieves, woke. Most of the great universities and colleges in the United States were Christian institutions. And now, Satan reigns in the majority of them

Good. Make that horrible place into a warehouse district or maybe a big annoying call center. And all other colleges beware.

Post-judgment interest, which should be substantial in a case involving this amount, should still be running.

To the geniuses at Oberlin a storekeeper protecting his/her inventory is racial profiling. Perhaps college officials would care to explain without the use of attorneys, signs and slogans.

Shoplifting, theft, and malicious trespass have been treated as a non-crime by our courts and have encouraged the surge of such acts throughout our country, and made them a sport to the younger generation.

Professor William Jacobsen and Legal Insurrection did fine work throughout this nightmare, including being present in court throughout the various trials/hearings. They realistically assume that there will be more to come, but they are hanging in and keeping this sad story, in great detail, in the public eye. Bravo!

Oberlin has been known to be flaming liberal since I was in school. An acquaintance, known for her leftist views, left Pasadena and went to Oberlin. This was some years ago.

Professor Jacobson wrote he would be shocked if Oberlin College does not attempt to take this litigation to the Ohio Supreme Court. Further, Professor Jacobson boldly states “the court rejected the deceptive attempt of Oberlin” to turn this litigation into a free speech case. Based on a statement from Oberlin College’s media relations spokesman, the college is evaluating options and possible next steps. ~~ May the peace of God be with the Gibson family.
