Ukrainian flags are flying on buildings across the country and Russian vodka is being poured into drains. Concerts are being canceled and books are flying off shelves over a cause that the vast majority of Americans would not have cared about and did not even know existed last year.
In a matter of weeks everyone has come around to having a passionate opinion on the subject.
And when the war in Ukraine has come and gone, some other cause will arrive to fill that void, and the outrage, blue and yellow flag waving, and all the rest of it will be gone with the vodka.
Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was perfectly timed

Excellent article. The "news" sources had basically a blackout of the truckers. This article is right about flitting from one cause to the other as long as the journalists believe in it. Since I've had the tv on this morning which has been about an hour, it's all about the war in Ukraine. I do feel very bad for both sides - they both have lost a lot of people. This is a war that didn't have to happen. There's so much blood on this regime's hands (biden's cartel).

FTA: "Insecure social mobs embrace new causes because they have a deep fear of being left behind the bandwagon."
This is a universal truth, left, right, or center politics.
I don't see any shortage of conservative support for US/NATO intervention in Ukraine. Congress just passed billions in lethal assistance for the Ukrainians with a clearly bi-partisan vote. Many seem inflamed by the same bombastic reports of indiscriminate shelling by the Russians, "civilians" dying and children having sleepless nights, reduced to singing Disney show tunes. Meanwhile we are treated to other stories of the heroic Ukranians preparing for battle...which may account for some of those dying elsewhere, couldn't it?
This was an avoidable conflict on the part of both/all sides. If one believes the people are "innocent", then it stands as a reminder of what GOVERNMENT can do to you without consent. War is hell, and desirable for some.

I must travel in different circles then these journalists because nothing that's been said in many of these articles have I seen or done, and neither has anyone I know. I've seen no Ukrainian flags flying everywhere I go. The topic isn't on everyone's mind, and I don't know anyone dumping vodka that's been made in Russia. However, there is plenty of talk about the price of gas and everything else, and the complete incompetence of this administration. Once again this is a media driven crisis started by this administration and carried by the MSM. This is not to say that what's happening in Ukraine isn't important, it just doesn't seem like anyone really cares to start WWIII over it. Greg Gutfeld hysterical ranting about Ukraine just seems out of place for most normal Americans. But then again, our wives and mother in laws aren't from that part of the planet.

This should be a Must Read. I know some of these frictionless people and this article explains their devotion to the cause du jour perfectly!

All who post here quite well understand how the leftists think and behave. But this article is a wonderfully-crafted and elegant theory that I enjoyed reading.
FTA: ..... The addiction to causes is, like all addictions, initially a rush only to gradually become unfulfilling, frustrating, and debilitating. The rage is the suffering of the addict who is increasingly unable to recreate the seeming purity of their initial political involvements except by upping the dose and escalating the emotional and physical violence of their commitments. Radicalization, like higher doses of any substance, don’t address the anhedonia of the abuser.
Every cause gives way to another cause and then the original cause is often forgotten, occasionally to be picked up later when convenient. When the cause has its moment, then it eclipses all others, and for a week, a month or a year, nothing else deserves to be mentioned.
The cause fills all the airwaves, swallows up all other considerations, and becomes the single greatest issue in the universe. And then a little time passes and it’s forgotten and discarded.
The cause was never the true cause. It was only ever an effect.

I liked this sentence the best: No matter how hard leftists struggle to change the world, they fail to change what is truly within their power to change: themselves.

This govt. and the media remind me of Orwell's 1984 where the people were told which country to hate and they would have "hate" rallies where they would scream their hatred towards that particular country....but then on another day, the people were told that country was their friend and they were told to hate a new country...so they would have another hate rally and scream their hatred for that country and on and on and on. Does this remind you of anyone?

Excellent, insightful article.
Leftism is what happens when God is removed from the equation of existence.
These people have devolved to demon shells roaming the earth desperate to find meaning where meaning can NEVER be found. They are tortured, desperate, and empty souls. That is why Judeo Christian values make them so spitting angry.
And now they’re in charge.
God, please help us.

Putin is a nasty piece of work but I give him credit for making Covid "disappear." Nary a peep in my neck of the woods.
I wonder what is next on the MSM Hit Parade of Progressive Crisis. The 24/7 new cycle must be fed and history always starts today.

Since the Russians invaded Ukraine the American people have been receiving through the media a 24/7 massive dose of politically based psychological warfare propaganda, much of it coming out of Ukraine that cannot be verified. Sometimes claiming that the US military should do this or that to intervene in that armed conflict. But you never hear members of the career DC UniParty and so-called “Deep State” say that they are encouraging their sons and daughters to join the military and head off to Ukraine to fight the Russian military!

Reading this article, a quote, originally written a hundred years ago, is sounding in my mind:
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary." ― H.L. Mencken,
