Bruce Springsteen selling his music to Sony for a half-billion dollars has gotten me thinking about my music and what I might get for the songs I wrote when my radio show was touring the country, such as my song for Milwaukee (“Where men still wear hats they look rather sporty in/And children still take lessons on the accordion”) and one in Idaho (“People move here from New York and New Joisy/To get away from the frantic, the noisy,/For the simple pleasures of Boise”)

Communists are all for private property when it’s their property and they think they can get something for it. He probably uses electricity and petroleum and products he couldn’t have without petroleum. BTW a communist is someone who wants to agitate the masses in order to topple an order that is functional so that he can impose tyranny. Under that definition this guy’s a useful idiot.

Comrade Keillor is jealous of Comrade's Springsteen's enormous wealth. HAHA. And a reminder: Keillor was fired for inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace. BTW Keillor went to NYC because he thought he was a national celebrity. He soon found out he was nobody in the Big Apple and returned to St. Paul to lick his wounded ego.

He's still alive? Who knew? Trying to figure out what it is he wants to say is way down my list of priorities at the moment. To be honest, I never liked that tone of voice he always uses on his NPR show either. Used to give me a major case of the creepy crawlies.

Who EVER gave a damn about Keillor's political leanings? I didn't then or now and I don't remember his ever using his show to promote his politics. But his was a show which embraced small town American life, ordinary music, and kindly poked fun at ordinary people and their foibles. If we ever expect the left to get off their high horse pulpits and remember what being an American means then WE will have to do the same. Castigating Keillor for his who-gives-a-damn politics but forgetting what he DID bring to our hearts makes us little better than the leftist twits we despise.

I have to agree with #13. I never saw any talent in Springsteen, and never like his songs. An occasional interesting line of lyric doesn't make good songs or a career.

It’s fifty years now since I was at university and a great deal of my time there -- especially the weekends -- is long forgotten. I do remember going with the intention of studying math and economics. At that time, and maybe still, there was a requirement, in the first year, to take other subjects. Whether this was to prevent specializing too soon or to provide a more rounded education or both I don’t know but, when my second year began one of those other subjects became all of my classes, either Modern History or Economic History.

It’s hard to say who is the bigger object lesson of the Trump resistance. Is it former Gov. Andrew Cuomo who briefly became the hero of the pandemic before falling under suspicion for lying about the death toll and for creating a hostile work environment for several of the women who worked for him. He wound up resigning, having lost the support of the people who’d once lionized him. But Michael Avenatti arguably fell even farther. In 2018 he seemed to be on television almost every day. He became such a media rock star that there was briefly talk that he might run for president.

A federal court ruled on Monday that a faith-based women’s shelter in Anchorage, Alaska, was allowed to remain open exclusively for women after the city passed an ordinance to mandate otherwise. The Downtown Hope Center sued the city in 2018 when officials sought legal retribution against the charity over its refusal to allow an inebriated and injured biological man who identified as a woman to sleep at its facility alongside homeless women. The shelter referred the man to a hospital instead where he was sent in a taxi paid for by the group.

President Biden is botching the COVID response. With a new Omicron variant spreading and Christmas upon us, home tests are nowhere to be found. Worse, the ever-changing goal posts given by the Biden administration have made many skeptical or even outright rebellious toward health experts; confidence in Dr. Anthony Fauci has waned with every political group. We're used to hearing about those feeling skeptical toward the powers that be as recalcitrant Trump voters—despite the fact that President Trump recently shared that he is not only vaccinated but he had received a booster shot. Writers at leading news outlets and liberal politicians routinely portray the vaccine hesitant as white Republicans.

Potheads who thought government legalization of pot would lead to heaven on earth forgot about one tiny detail: getting the government involved in anything either makes it more expensive or ruins it completely. In the case of legal pot in California, it’s both. Many pot smokers in California probably wish they were still buying from the cartels, given how expensive their marijuana has become. And with the dearth of legal pot shops in much of the state, potheads are bypassing the high taxes and spotty service in the existing stores to keep buying on the street.

It might be an instance of Hillary’s mouth running ahead of her brain, but don’t count on it. Hillary is a coldly calculating woman -- and that might be one of her better qualities. Hillary suggested that if Trump or “someone of his ilk” is elected president in 2024, then American democracy is kaput. Foolishness?
