Global Food Prices Increased in September,
Reached Decade High

Global food prices have reached a decade high and increased for the second month in a row in September, according to a Thursday report from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI), which measures the monthly change in international prices of a basket of food commodities, averaged 130.0 points in September 2021 — that rate is 32.1 points higher than the same month last year and up 1.5 points from August. The FFPI has not reached these levels since 2011 when it hit 131.9.The increase was largely spurred by “tightening supply conditions and robust demand for staples such as wheat and palm oil,” the FAO reported.

Comments:

As inflation continues and increases, so will the dissatisfaction with those who caused it. Supply chain issues are a problem, but the real problem is out of control spending. It's bad, but it's going to get worse.

Real cyclical climate change (not the phony 'man made' stuff) in the coming decades is going to shift rain patterns, water resources and food growing capacity even more in the favor of the US. With global population approaching 8 billion, water will become the oil of the 21st century. Then the fun will start!

I recently saw an article about 'shrinklfation'. Manufacturers are accelerating the trend to shrink package sizes which makes the per/pound of per/fluid ounce price much higher.

Partly due to supply chain issues. With some areas on never ending shutdowns and others firing employees due to vaccination requirements it will not ease up soon. Perhaps when the Christmas...er Holiday buying orgy starts in earnest and the sheeple can't find all the stuff they want something will change.

New Zealand´s central bank raised interest rates for the first time in more than seven years on Wednesday, removing some of the support it put in place when the coronavirus pandemic began. The Reserve Bank raised the benchmark rate to 0.5% from a record low 0.25%.The move came despite an ongoing lockdown in Auckland, its largest city, due to a coronavirus outbreak. The bank said the lockdown had badly affected some Auckland businesses but a broad range of indicators pointed to New Zealand´s economy performing strongly overall. It said inflation was expected to rise to 4% in the short term before easing to 2% in the medium term.

On Saturday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Yasmin Vossoughian Reports,” Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) argued that the $3.5 trillion price tag for the Build Back Better Act reconciliation package “is a modest investment” for an economy the size of America’s. Torres said, “[T]here’s misconception about the price tag of the Build Back Better Act. The Build Back Better Act, the original draft, it is not 3.5 trillion over the course of a year. It’s over the course of ten years. So, it’s $350 billion. Which, for a $20 trillion economy like ours, is a modest investment. So, I think it’s shortsighted to focus on the price tag.”

The Ryder Cup, a biennial competition between the twelve best golfers from America and Europe, was won by the United States yesterday. It was a dominant and historic win, with the U.S. scoring an unprecedented nineteen points; a remarkable performance by the most likeable group of golfers we’ve seen in ages. But before we get to their brilliance as athletes – and yes, they are not only athletic, they are extraordinarily so – let’s review some other aspects of our 2021 Ryder Cup Team for which we should all be proud.

Rep. Following the vote, which passed the House 420-9, AOC characterized herself as a victim in a lengthy letter in which she confessed to crying over the “complete lack of regard I often feel our party has to its most vulnerable and endangered members.”

NBC political director Chuck Todd said Sunday that President Joe Biden appeared to be facing down “pretty big credibility crisis.” Todd spoke with fellow MSNBC host Willie Geist on “Sunday Today” to discuss the political news of the day, from the growing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border to reports confirming that a U.S. drone strike had killed an Afghan aid worker and his family rather than the intended ISIS-K operators. Geist mentioned those issues along with the FDA’s announcement recommending COVID-19 booster shots for only those at high risk or over 65, despite Biden’s plan to make boosters available for everyone by September.

I ask this question for two reasons: I have seen enough videos and read about enough officer-civilian interactions to know that the act of subduing a lethal threat requires several rounds. If an intruder entered my home and threatened my wife and child, I would shoot until I was able to ensure the target was immobilized. As to the first statement, there are plenty of examples of police officers firing multiple shots at a suspected threat. In the past year, the American public has been thoroughly able to parse through the shootings of criminals like Breonna Taylor and Antonio Brown, to name just two examples.
