Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, the nation’s first Native American Cabinet official, tearfully described the White House grounds Friday as “the ancestral homelands” of two Native American tribes. During an event with President Biden on the North Lawn of the White House, Ms. Haaland became choked up as she praised the president’s action to restore territory of two sprawling western national monuments that had been reduced in size by then-President Trump. “We are here today on the ancestral homelands of the Anacostan and Piscataway people, bending the arc of the moral universe toward justice,” Ms. Haaland said. She thanked Mr. Biden “for the profound action you’re taking today to permanently

Every habitable or desirable part of Earth has changed hands over time. Why doesn’t she give credit to the peoples who occupied it before the Anacostans and the Piscataway tribes? Profound action? Glad she thinks so. Most recognize it as more donkey kissing, and its unlikely president Biden had anything to do with it. Or even recalls the event now several hours later. No doubt his home in Delaware is built on formerly American Indian occupied land. As are all of our homes, if fortunate enough to have one.

Most of these "tribes" consisted of a handful of extended family members - - who were living a Stone Age hunter-gatherer existence.
They had no concept whatsoever of what a "homeland" was. They were just trying to survive from day to day. The concept of "property" didn't exist on this continent until the Europeans brought it with them.
So spare me the tears, chief - - you're full of crap.

Every rock, mountain, river ,and tree seems to be some sacred something to some ancient someone in the past that of course, was stolen by the evil white settlers and must be returned immediately. The ancient ones of course, lives peacefully in harmony with nature and each other. The truth is, the old tribes were brutal to each others and killed each much more than the settlers did. They did not all live the idealistic Disney film portrayal of life as our Sec. of Interior, Biden, and the PC crown would have us believe. If nobody was on the land when we arrived, the settlers settled it. If there was a fight for it and they won, they won it. That is how things worked all over the world throughout history whether the PC crowd likes it or not.

I get so tired of people romanticizing Indians. I’m going to screen shot #3’s post. It is succinct and right on point.

Just because you're here first doesn't make it yours. If that was true almost every where would belong to someone else.
Maybe the American aborigines' should have not side with England in the Revolutionary Was and the War of 1812, pick the losing side you lose. too stinkin bad.

In California, renaming city parks after Native American tribes for 'social justice' usually results in a hitherto unheard-of tribe claiming it and opening up a casino, exempt from city laws.
Then when the casinos open, the new owners are white people (looking like Elizabeth Warren), no Native Americans, no black, no Hispanic, no Asian...

Oh, boo hoo. This lady of the Laguna tribe in New Mexico doesn't know her history. The biggest threat to the Anacostan and Piscataway people came from the Northern Iroquois tribes. "By 1600, incursions by the Susquehannock and other Iroquoian peoples from the north had almost entirely destroyed many of the Piscataway and other Algonquian settlements above present-day Great Falls, Virginia..." The so called native Americans were here when Europeans showed up. However, there were others here before the natives. Signs of Aztecs have been found here. My understanding is these things are hidden by the government. I've heard a few other things have been found here but again, kept from the public. I remember seeing supposed proof that the Chinese were in California thousands of years ago because of anchors found underwater, off the coast, that was what they used long ago. So yeah, native and all that but you were certainly not the first ones here. Just the ones here when Europeans arrived.

I'll bet Deb's own house is sitting on "Ancestral homelands", since Indians roamed the entire continent. She should set an example and give it to some tribe. Then she can move back to Europe to demand she be given back her own ancestral homeland.

"Anacostia is the European settlers' latinized word for the Nacotchtanks. That word meant traders. Most of that small tribe were wiped out by disease so joined another tribe. Anyway, maybe the football team could be called the Washinton Nacotchtanks?

washington d.c. has, for a very long time, hardly exemplified the name: Washington
- and the first General of the United States Army and first President of the United States of America would, I think, not be pleased with what his namesake has turned into
- diapers has brought the reputation of our country to its lowest level, ever, and I just hope he lives long enough to realize that, while he sits in the cell in a whole block, in Leavenworth, with the rest of the demcommies and his cocaine addicted offspring
#45 is coming back and his return will be biblical

Unless of course, the so-called natives came from Asia over the land bridge to this country. Then they are the usurpers.

I’ve always felt very empathetic for America’s original people’s, but also understood their existence in their memories is not as romantic as they wanted to believe, they were killing and eating one another long before we came onto the scene. A number of tribes have adapted quite well to modernization and are prosperous. Holding grudges to this long leads to serious generational psychological damage. And the left is feeding it and taking advantage of it.

You could travel coast to coast look out of the window and claim that of all the land, so what. If it was given back to the Indians they would still be beating drums, chanting and dancing around bonfires praising spirit animals so give me a break. This is like saying a porpoise is smarter than a human. Has anyone ever seen a high rise or highways built by porpoises underwater it's the same with the Indians. Left up to Indians there would be nothing here so quit griping about it we did them a favor.

Just as many other presidents did, Joe praised the Native Americans with one hand and screwed them with the other. Don't get all teary-eyed just yet, Deb, the dictatorship is not over. We have lots of other people who are destined to be on reservations and some even deserve it.

While a few tribes before the coming of the white man held pieces of land for farming, like the Creeks in the Southeast, the vast majority claimed land and boundaries for hunting privileges only. When the animals moved on or the seasons changed, the tribes followed the herds. Land was not land for it's own sake but for the game animals that walked on it.

Only a country on a national suicide mission would permit such folly. Might as well tear it down and let them build a casino or a discount liquor and tobacco store; at least that way it would generate some money.
