I understand that the commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division has told the commander of the British special forces at the Kabul airport to cease operations beyond the airport perimeter.
Maj. Gen. Christopher Donahue has told his British Army counterpart, a high-ranking field-grade officer of the British army's 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, that British operations were embarrassing the United States military in the absence of similar U.S. military operations. I understand that the British officer firmly rejected the request.

President Joe Biden’s job approval is underwater in most states, according to the CIVIQS rolling job approval average.
Thirty-seven states show the president with a 50 percent or higher disapproval rate. This is compared to only 12 states that show the president with a higher approval rating. Meanwhile, only one state, Colorado, polled at an even tie with 46 percent.
The seven-month rolling average of the president’s job approval is now at 50 percent disapproval compared to only 43 percent approval, with seven people expressing no opinion.
Broken down by age groups; 18-34, 35-49, 50-64, and 65 plus, all have a negative opinion of Biden as well.

oe Biden gave a horrible briefing on Afghanistan today, where he lied so much that Fox’s Jennifer Griffin said it was hard to keep up with all the misrepresentations. But Joe Biden did actually take a few questions. Unfortunately, his responses were just as bad as his remarks.
For example, he refused to commit to staying past August 31 to get Americans if they hadn’t gotten out everyone who needed it by that time. But there was one exchange that really had people asking questions.
NPR reporter Scott Detrow asked Biden if he was really saying that there were no circumstances where Americans weren’t able to get to the Kabul airport

A Colorado Springs father’s speech against critical race theory at a school district’s board meeting is taking the internet by storm.
The black man was clear that America is not a racist nation and that racism would “by and large be dead” if not for liberal institutions “keeping it on life support.” Turns out, his opinion appears to have helped persuade the board to vote to ban CRT.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday that he had spoken with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton earlier in the week as Afghanistan fell back into Taliban hands amid an ill-planned pull-out of American military and diplomatic personnel.
Meanwhile, White House officials confirmed on Thursday as well that as events were unfolding in the southwest Asian nation where U.S. and NATO forces have been deployed for 20 years, President Joe Biden did not take any calls from nor did he contact key world leaders who grew increasingly concerned as the situation worsened and Taliban fighters erected a perimeter around Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.

With the Biden administration refusing to commit to rescuing all U.S. citizens from Afghanistan, at least two other nations — Qatar and the United Kingdom — have reportedly taken up the challenging but doable task themselves.
This stunning finding was revealed by retired Marine and former Trump-era Deputy National Advisor Matt Pottinger during an appearance Wednesday on Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow.”
According to Pottinger, the Qataris have for their part been using their “lines of communication to the Taliban” to arrange transportation for Americans.

There has been no end of commentary dealing with Donald Trump’s turbulent presidency and the scandal of his electoral loss. There’s no doubt that from the day of the “grand escalator ride” (and even before) to the day of his departure from the White House, a social, media, and political upheaval was in progress, and would not cease even when he once again became a private citizen. Reasons pro and con for the debacle have proliferated since Hurricane Trump made landfall in America, but the issues are basically very simple and can be stated economically.
There were essentially three called strikes against him, all that was needed to count him out.

ABC News did not air the full interview with President Joe Biden at the most critical moment of his presidency. While Americans are seeking answers on the disastrous Afghan withdrawal from a president who has been avoiding the press, the decision not to air Biden’s interview with George Stephanopoulos does not make sense from a journalistic ethics or ratings standpoint.
Biden’s interview was a disaster from top-to-bottom. There are numerous provable lies and half-truths in the interview that I provided in a Twitter thread, and were recounted separately by CNN. ABC News did release a full transcript of the interview, but there were at least seven parts that were not aired,

Fewer than 40 percent of likely voters believe Joe Biden is carrying out the duties of the presidency, according to a poll released Friday as the US evacuation of Afghanistan continues to spiral out of control. The survey from Rasmussen Reports found that just 39 percent of respondents thought that Biden was “doing the job of president,” while 51 percent answered that “others are making decisions” for the 78-year-old, and 10 percent said they were not sure. That represents a drastic drop from a similar poll conducted in March, when the response to that question was evenly divided 47-47.

Despite their dominant military blitz over the past week, the Taliban lack access to billions of dollars from their central bank and the International Monetary Fund that would keep the country running during a turbulent shakeup. Minutes after President Biden on Friday said the mission to destroy Al Qaeda in Afghanistan was a success and that he knew of no circumstances where Americans had been unable to reach Kabul airport, he was flatly contradicted by the Pentagon.
Al Qaeda remains present in Afghanistan, said Department of Defense spokesman John Kirby during a briefing, and yes, he was aware of reports of Americans being beaten by the Taliban as they tried to reach safety.
The contradiction will raise further doubt about whether Biden is in control of the White House messaging operation, let alone the chaotic effort to bring Americans home.

As the Biden administration scrambles to evacuate American personnel from Afghanistan, it is overlooking the Taliban's plans to seize some $10 billion in assets held by Afghanistan's central bank, according to congressional foreign policy leaders.Somewhere between $18 and $20 million in cash sits in the Afghan central bank's vaults and is likely to fall into the Taliban's hands unless the United States attempts to intercept the funds and fly them out of the country—a scenario that sources say is unlikely as the Biden administration struggles to pull Americans out of Taliban-controlled Kabul.

President Joe Biden detailed his strategy to get Americans, Afghan allies, and refugees out of Afghanistan on Friday but caveated with “knock on wood” — a superstitious idiom expressing uncertainty about one’s fortunes.
“What we’ve done so far is been able to get a large number of Americans out, all our personnel at the embassy out, and so on,” Biden said. “And thank God, so far, knock on wood, we’re in a different position.”
The president tried to reassure Americans in Afghanistan that they would get airlifted out of the country, boasting that only the United States could handle the logistics required to do so.

He is now claiming that they’ve secured the airport and that the U.S. military is “standing guard around the airport” and that there’s no problem for Americans or allies to get to the airport.
We have no information that Americans are having difficulty getting to the airport, Biden said. Where there have been challenges for Americans, we resolved them, he claimed. Completely ignoring the question about the safety of the allies, where there have been innumerable reports about them not being able to get through to the airport.

Correspondents described his lies as “breathtaking” and completely out of touch with the dire reality facing U.S. citizens and Afghan allies still trapped in the Taliban-controlled country.
World News Tonight anchor David Muir turned to senior foreign correspondent Ian Pannell, still reporting from Kabul, and skeptically asked about Biden’s assertion that Americans and Afghans could get

After dodging journalists and ping-ponging from the White House to vacation, back to the White House, Joe Biden on Friday finally faced the music and talked to pent-up journalists about his Afghanistan disaster. Although the President called on just five reporters, they hammered him for badly botching the situation.
It was Stephanie Ramos of ABC who put the most human face on the growing crisis, reminding the Democrat of those abandoned to the Taliban:
Last month, my colleague Martha Raddatz interviewed Abdul, an interpreter on the front lines with U.S. Forces in Afghanistan. Overnight we received a photo

As we approach the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks it is interesting to look back and see how American culture has changed in that two-decade time span. Back then mainstream culture (sorta) rallied around God and country against our enemy, the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Today the culture sees those same people that believe in God and country as bad or worse than the Taliban.

During a press conference Friday, President Joe Biden claimed that our allies have not questioned our credibility amid the botched American-conducted withdrawal from Afghanistan that left thousands of citizens of western nations as well as Afghan allies scrambling to evacuate and flee the Taliban’s takeover.
“I have seen no questioning of our credibility from our allies around the world,” Biden asserted.
His statement comes after a number of members of the British Parliament condemned the United States’ haphazard departure from the country as “catastrophic” and “shameful,” with members uniting to “dishonor” the foreign policy fiasco, the Telegraph reported.

This week, Jews all around the world will read a portion of Deuteronomy that calls to remember an incident that occurred over 3,000 years ago. It involved a belligerent enemy whose name would have been erased from history were it not preserved in the Bible, the Jewish People's foundation text. I am referring to Deuteronomy 25:17-19.
Throughout our long history as a people, we Jews have looked at those three verses as a paradigm for our relationship with history: we don't forget our history — we embrace it. We Jews accept the concept of history so fully that we actually sacralize it — we make our history sacred.

WASHINGTON — Amid the continuing crisis in Afghanistan, President Joe Biden postponed plans to head to his Delaware home on Friday and instead will spend the night in Washington. The White House announced the latest schedule change hours before Biden was set to discuss the chaotic evacuation of American citizens and allies from Afghanistan. The president has been under mounting pressure over his decisions in Afghanistan, which ultimately led to last weekend’s collapse of the U.S.-backed government and complete takeover of the country by Taliban militants. His approval rating is currently underwater, falling to 46 percent, while 49 percent disapprove. Opinions are sharply divided on party lines, as 81 percent of Democrats approve of Biden’s job performance, compared to 11 percent of Republicans and 42 percent of independents:

The “adults” were back in the room. Competence had returned to the White House. Decorum, empathy, and decency abounded. Those were some of the jubilant proclamations made by a certain segment of the right after Joe Biden took office. For them, it was all fun and games with the bad orange man gone — until it wasn’t.
That’s the situation Never Trump figures, especially those that cashed in with MSNBC appearances and subscription newsletters, find themselves facing. The brutal collapse of Afghanistan mixed with Biden’s cold, incompetent response have opened the floodgates on a sea of regret.

The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials.
Though federal officials have arrested more than 570 alleged participants, the FBI at this point believes the violence was not centrally coordinated by far-right groups or prominent supporters of then-President Donald Trump, according to the sources, who have been either directly involved in or briefed regularly on the wide-ranging investigations.
"Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases," said a former senior law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation.

There's not much to say that hasn't already been said regarding Biden's unconditional surrender to the Taliban, and it's only the first week. Bookshelves will be filled with analyses of these events, and we won't understand their full ramifications for decades. My two cents, for what they're worth, are that the left doesn't consider the fall of Kabul and the betrayal of our allies to be a tragedy. Rather, this is deliberate foreign policy strategy, and it's right on track.
The pattern is clear for those who wish to see. Simply put, the left thinks America is not only evil, but irredeemably so

In an article last week, I posited that the silent majority in America is angry and becoming loud. A reader — we'll call him Lloyd — sent me the following: "Trump-supporters are neither silent nor the majority ... and if we had a straight-up popular vote of what the majority of the people want, you'd never win again." I believe that's a challenge to my assumptions. Are conservatives really a majority, or are they just using the Electoral College to occasionally cheat the "will of the people" to win as a minority?
The second part of Lloyd's statement implies that Republicans have an unfair advantage due to the Electoral College.

America’s humiliation in Afghanistan goes on. It’s going to get worse, quite possibly much, much worse, before it’s over, assuming it ever is. But the many reasons it didn’t have to be this way are already coming into clearer focus.
Start with the decision made sometime before Independence Day 2021 for the July 6 U.S. pullout from Bagram Airfield, the massive operations and supply center for air power, the decisive element of the U.S. military effort in Afghanistan.
That the Bagram withdrawal was pulled off at night without prior notice to our Afghan allies was a huge warning sign of the epic disaster President Joe Biden was setting about. Watching closely were

Did Senator Cotton’s office help an Afghan American couple get out of Kabul? Yes. They turned to Senator Cotton’s office when they were unable to get out of Kabul after trying to do so for several days. His office responded and they were able to get on a plane. At a time like this, all hands are on deck to assist Americans in getting out of Afghanistan.
In today’s press briefing with reporters, Defense Department spokesman John Kirby was asked if the Pentagon knows how many Americans are in Afghanistan? His answer was one word, “No.” Unbelievable.

Jim Geraghty’s written two posts today making the case that something is up. I’m not sold on his first post. His second is more persuasive.
The first post argues that Biden’s chat with George Stephanopoulos was filled with enough contradictions and awkward stammering that, paired with his low visibility lately, we might reasonably conclude that his health has become an issue. Whether you agree comes down to a gut check on how you felt about the interview. I didn’t see it as out of the ordinary for Biden. His answers were emphatically not good but he didn’t seem checked out to me. If anything, he was combative

As many as 80,000 Americans and Afghans who once worked for the US still need to be evacuated from Kabul amid the botched withdrawal that has been marred by violence and chaos.
The US has evacuated 7,000 from Kabul since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan five days ago but there are still between 60,000 and 80,000 who need to get out.
That includes more than 10,000 Americans, according to CBS News.

California’s Dixie Fire has achieved a staggering distinction by becoming the first wildfire in history to burn clear across the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
It’s the first known fire to start in the range’s western foothills, burn up and over the crest and then descend into the eastern valleys, said Thom Porter, director of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire.
“We don’t have any record of that happening before,” he said during a press conference Wednesday.
The portion scorched by the Dixie Fire boasts numerous peaks higher than 6,000 feet (1,800 meters).
