A George Floyd mural in Toledo, Ohio was destroyed by a lightning strike Tuesday afternoon, according to witnesses.
WTVG reported their Doppler Radar did show a lightning strike on the same block as the George Floyd mural at 4:30 this afternoon.
The lightning strike, which hit directly on George Floyd’s face, reduced the mural to a pile of bricks.

The Texas Senate passed a Republican-backed voting bill after Democratic House members fled the state in order to block a final House vote.
Senators voted 18-4 along party lines to approve the legislation. Eight Senate Democrats announced that they too had fled to Washington, D.C., on Monday, with a ninth expected to arrive Monday evening. However, with 22 out of 31 members present, the Senate kept a quorum and was able to pass the measure.
“This bill is about making it both easy to vote and harder to cheat,” Republican state senator Bryan Hughes, who authored the bill, told reporters.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has had enough of the runaway Texas Democrats throwing their little tantrum political stunt.
As we reported earlier, he said that he was going to make them do their job and have them arrested if they return to the state.
Abbott eviscerated the Democrats’ false claims about the election security bill, saying that it isn’t denying anyone the right to vote and, in fact, the bill provides for increased voting hours. Abbott also brought up another area of Democratic hypocrisy – the number of days of early voting. Texas has 12, and guess what state has none? Delaware, Joe Biden’s home state.

With the backdrop of anti-Asian violence increasing nationally during the coronavirus pandemic, Illinois has become the first state to require Asian American history be taught as part of the public school curriculum. Governor JB Pritzker signed the Teaching Equitable Asian American History (Teaach) Act into law on Friday last week, which requires elementary and high schools to teach a unit of Asian American history beginning next year. “Today, we are reaffirming our commitment to creating more inclusive school environments. We’re making Illinois the first state in the nation to require that Asian American history will be taught in public schools, including a unit about the Asian American experience,”

In an impassioned speech today (or what passes for one in his current condition), Joe Biden claimed that the voting laws being passed and/or considered by some Republican controlled state legislatures such as Georgia’s pose “the most dangerous threat to voting and the integrity of free and fair elections in our history.” This claim isn’t just false, it’s absurd.
Biden doesn’t know much about history, but he’s surely aware that there was a time in the last century when Blacks in some states had to answer difficult questions to the satisfaction of racist local officials

Now-independent journalist Megyn Kelly has the left in an uproar after observing that the media is portraying the Jan. 6 protest at the U.S. Capitol “as so much worse than it actually was.”Taking their lead from Democrats, the media has billed the riot that day as being on the same scale as 9/11 or Pearl Harbor, claiming it was an “insurrection,” an attempt to overthrow the federal government — of course, the worst they portray it, the more beneficial it is to their real agenda, which is to blame it on former President Trump.“A faction turned,” Kelly said on her popular podcast, speaking of some at the Capitol

With Donald Trump’s reappearance on the political scene a few days ago at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, the former president has once again emerged as the activists’ choice for the 2024 nomination—if the election were held today. Trump won the votes of 70 percent of the attendees, followed by Florida governor Ron DeSantis at 21 percent; the others, including Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley, and Mike Pompeo, each collected less than one percent of the straw vote.
The presidential election, however, isn’t going to be held today or any other day except (nominally) Nov. 5, 2024. At least the Republicans had better hope that’s the case.

The 69 million Americans who collect Social Security are on track to get the biggest cost-of-living hike since 1983, with one advocacy group for senior citizens projecting a 6.1% increase to benefits due to surging inflation. The bad news: Recipients will have to wait for that bump because the Social Security Administration adjusts its payments only once a year, starting with December benefits that are paid in January. That means seniors and other Social Security beneficiaries wouldn't receive a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) until January 2022. Yet, Biden delivered a speech today on “voter suppression” that is probably his most dishonest, most vitriolic rant to date, and that’s saying something.Unlike many of his past speeches, the story wasn’t Biden’s brain breaking down as he attempted to read the teleprompter. Sure, there were moments where he looked as if he were going to pass out, but it was the substance that was far more disturbing. The basis of Biden’s speech was the idea that Republicans are trying to stop minorities from voting by having normal standards

One of the oddest things about Western man is that he is much more willing to kill over abstract ideas than he is over practical items. Wars for land or mineral rights tend to be short and relatively bloodless. One side wants the land held by another or maybe they want access to some natural resource. Negotiations fail, hostilities begin, and after the armies fight, a new round of talks settles the matter.
The disputes over ideas, on the other hand, end in catastrophe. One side decides that the other side is believing the wrong things or is organizing its society in a way that offends them. Because the spark of

Earlier this morning, I wrote on Gov. Greg Abbott’s threat to arrest the fleeing Texas Democrats who are refusing to show up for work. Those Democrats left the state in an ill-fated attempt to deny a quorum to Republicans, who make up a large majority of the state legislature, in order to stop a vote on an election integrity bill.
When I saw Abbott’s comments, I wasn’t sure Republicans would actually have the guts to vote to force the Democrats to return and do their jobs. Yet, that’s exactly what happened. The response to this is going to be predictable.

Few illegal immigrants caught and released at the border on promises of turning themselves in to ICE later are actually showing up, defying Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ assurances of a “high rate” of compliance and leaving the department with few options for tracking the migrants down. At best, the appearance rate is less than 25%, according to data from members of Congress and from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It may actually be much lower. That means thousands of illegal immigrants have already defied their first orders from Homeland Security and become fugitives, and that bodes ill for the chances of getting them to comply with their court dates

Inflation surged in June at its fastest pace in nearly 13 years amid a burst in used vehicle costs and price increases in food and energy, the Labor Department reported Tuesday.
The consumer price index increased 5.4% from a year earlier, the largest jump since August 2008, just before the worst of the financial crisis. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting a 5% gain.
Stripping out volatile food and energy prices, the core CPI rose 4.5%, the sharpest move for that measure since September 1991 and well above the estimate of 3.8%.
On a monthly basis, headline and core prices rose 0.9% against 0.5% estimates.

Public education exists primarily to supply economic and political necessities: basic literacy and numeracy, a dollop of civics. But beyond these modest (and increasingly unmet) goals, schools once gave students a taste of what Matthew Arnold called “the best which has been thought and said in the world”—or, if not that, then at least a few good books. The idea didn’t seem to need justification. At any rate, Mrs. White, my sixth-grade English teacher, born at the turn of the twentieth century, never offered us any. If pressed, she might have said something about developing competencies and virtues that would give our lives wholeness and character.

Mark Montgomery, both retired, came in response to recent Naval disasters, including the burning of the USS Bonhomme Richard in San Diego, two collisions involving Navy ships in the Pacific and the surrender of two small craft to Iran.(Snip)The report found that a staggering 94 percent of the subjects believed the recent Naval disasters were 'part of a broader problem in Navy culture

America’s dwindling domestic shipbuilding industry has lawmakers worried about the Navy’s ability to keep up with China and Russia. Now that China has surpassed the U.S. to have the world’s largest navy, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle agree that the service must make strides toward building a larger fleet. Reaching the goal, however, is hobbled by a domestic shipbuilding industry that has been in decline since the mid-1990s. The Navy currently operates just four public shipyards tasked with maintaining the nuclear-powered fleet and roughly 20 private shipyards certified to build and maintain the service’s conventionally powered ships. China, by comparison, operates more than 1,200 shipyards

I took a look at my recent AT articles and I apologize. I have been dancing around the elephant in the room. The only thing that matters in America right now is that liberals got everything wrong. And they can’t believe it. They won’t believe it. They dare not believe it.
When was the last time a New York Times writer said that the trouble with the labor and pro-union legislation of the 1930s is that it led directly to the overpriced manufacturing union labor of the 1970s?

Everything is bigger in Texas, including the egregious miscarriages of justice. The Blaze reported Wednesday that Collin County, Texas, District Judge Andrea Thompson “effectively denied a U.S. citizen,” a Muslim woman named Mariam Ayad, “her constitutionally protected due process rights, choosing instead to order her to appear before an Islamic tribunal where her testimony is considered inferior. And when her lawyers sounded the alarm — the judge doubled down.” Islamic law, Sharia, taking precedence over U.S. law — in Texas? Celebrate diversity! CORRECTION*

Arizona's attorney general on Monday announced that his office is seeking a preliminary injunction against the Biden administration’s efforts to end border wall construction and the Trump-era Remain-in-Mexico policy – claiming the moves violate environmental law. Attorney General Mark Brnovich’s office first sued the Department of Homeland Security in April, alleging the administration has not complied with its obligations under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) when it ended border wall construction and the Remain-in-Mexico policy – which kept migrants in Mexico until their hearings were processed. Protests in Cuba against the communist regime and the decades of oppression it has produced have provided a test of will in Florida. While Republicans, both in the state and nationally, are always outspoken against the Cuban government and understand the reasons the people there are fed up, Democrats have attempted to straddle a line that can’t be straddled. Tepid denouncements that refuse to name communism as the problem and distract to other issues do not play well in a state like Florida. We saw the White House try to make the unrest about COVID vaccines, which is not only ludicrous but an obvious attempt

This is the moment Mel Gibson saluted Donald Trump in the crowds at Saturday's UFC clash between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor. The Hollywood actor and director, 65, acknowledged the former US president as he walked by surrounded by his bodyguards at UFC 264 in Las Vegas.
The video has sparked a huge response online with some describing Gibson as a 'true patriot'.But the gesture sparked meltdown among 'woke liberals' who said they were 'not surprised' the actor, known for starring roles in Lethal Weapon and Braveheart, appeared to be supporting the Republican.

It’s not easy to run a hideous dictatorship and still have fans and defenders in fashionable quarters, but the Castro dictatorship has managed it all of these decades.
The mass, spontaneous protests that broke out all over the country last weekend are yet another sign that the Cuban government lacks all legitimacy. In Cuba, it is the government versus the people, and lo, all these years, Castro’s apologists have been with the government. They have romanticized Fidel Castro, the founder father of Cuba’s junta. They have swallowed its propaganda. They have made excuses for it. They have looked away from its crimes. And they have blamed America for its manifest failures.

Inflation continued to surge in June, with consumer prices accelerating at the fastest pace in almost 13 years as the economy emerges from the pandemic, the feds said Tuesday. The Labor Department’s Consumer Price Index, which measures a basket of goods and services as well as energy and food costs, jumped 5.4 percent in June from a year earlier. That’s higher than May’s 5 percent year-over-year rise in prices, and the biggest 12-month rise since August 2008, just before the financial crisis sent the US into the worst recession it had seen since the Great Depression.

The United States Capitol Police force is Congress’s private security force. It is not subject to any of the constraints that govern all other police forces in America. It is not required to turn over evidence. Also, as we learned with the case of the officer who murdered Ashli Babbitt, it can conduct its reviews under cover of darkness, hide people’s identities, and clear itself of wrongdoing, all without having to answer to the public. In this regard, as is the case with so many things Congress has voted for itself, it is profoundly un-American.

As he was making a left turn at an intersection near his home, Gregg noticed a car speeding up toward him as if to block his path.

Political persecution and isolation of vast swaths of the citizenry by the Justice Department, the Intelligence Community and the Judiciary in the wake of the January 6, 2021 Capitol incursion should bring a chill down the spine of every American. This same troika, but with different nomenclature, was mobilized by 20th Century despots to eliminate their political enemies and establish a police state. (I attended the January 6, 2021 rally at the U.S. Capitol and observed first-hand what the media and the Democrats have falsely and with malice claimed was an “armed insurrection.”)

Daily COVID deaths and new cases are down to pre-pandemic levels in America. Even the CDC says masks are no longer required for vaccinated people. Heck, even school teachers are returning to the classrooms – sans masks – now that their demands for more money and less work have been met.
Weirdly, however, many people are still wearing masks. In fact, I often see mask wearers driving around alone in their cars. What’s up with that?
A little historical context is necessary. Dr. Fauci originally told us that masks were not effective. It turned out that he never really believed that. He was lying

Like an unwatched pot suddenly violently boiling over, Havana and other cities have erupted in defiant protests by Cubans fed up with living in their perpetually depressed tropical police state. True to form, the Castroite regime has already reflexively cracked down on the protests with brutality.
Cubans weary of being treated like animals without rights took to the streets, shouting “Freedom!” “Down with the dictatorship,” and, most pointedly, “Down with communism!” In some cases, protesters carried American flags..

Victimizers quickly becoming victims is a recurrent theme of Thucydides’ history. In his commentary on the so-called stasis at Corcyra, he offers his most explicit warning about the long-term dangers of destroying legal institutions, customs, and traditions that serve the common good for short-term gain.
The historian notes that in the inevitable yin and yang of politics, the destroyers inevitably will seek, but do so in vain, refuge in what they have destroyed.

President Biden used today the right words, up to a point, to address the unprecedented revolt in Cuba, the Communist-ruled island mere 330 miles off of Miami. Is he ready, though, to help Cubans bring an end to the Castro-made Caribbean eyesore, while charting a new course for the future? (Snip) While the uprising intensified today, mostly in peaceful demonstrations where anti-communist slogans were shouted by American flag wavers, the regime reacted violently. There were reports of casualties in Havana and elsewhere.

They have fled to prevent a vote on two bills which would add new identification requirements for mail voting; ban some early voting options; and create new criminal penalties for breaking election code, while empowering partisan poll watchers.

But then according to Mr. Elder, more and more people came forward, people he knew and respected, all with the same request; you gotta do this!

On Monday, CBS This Morning drew criticism from the reasonable when they blamed former President Trump for the plight of the protesting Cuban people. But later that night, the CBS Evening News made a blatant reversal of messaging as they became the only broadcast network that evening to not only say the word “communism” but also blamed the “six decades of communist rule” for their lack of food and other “basic necessities.”
Earlier in the day, correspondent Manuel Bojorquez noted that Cuban dictator “Miguel Diaz-Canel blamed the protests on the U.S. and its trade embargo for a severe impact on Cuba's recent economic downturn.”

John noted last night the large anti-regime protests in Cuba, and one hopes that this is the beginning of the end for the Castro tyranny, in just the way that mass protests in Eastern Europe in 1989 presaged the fall of the Berlin Wall in November of that year, and the collapse of Communist rule shortly thereafter.
There are reasons to worry about this scene, however. Protestors took to the streets “in cities all around the country” according to media reports. Did these protests happen spontaneously? There are credible reports of building unrest among Cubans for several months now, but protests usually require some planning, coordination, and communication.

If you’re going to make a move that’s destined to be unpopular in your home state, probably costing your party seats in the midterms, at least take proper COVID precautions, for cripes sake. Karen wrote earlier about this desperate ploy, in which the state legislature’s minority party finds itself so desperate to block the looming passage of Texas’s new voting reform bill that they’ve decided to deny the House a quorum by absconding. That means leaving the state entirely, as law enforcement would otherwise be empowered to return them to the Capitol forcibly. Departing Texas’s jurisdiction is the only way to foil legislative business.

The initial Biden administration response to the mass rallies for freedom that took place across Cuba on Sunday was a disgrace. As Cubans took to the streets defying the Communist regime’s totalitarian police, a senior State Department official tweeted that the administration viewed the protests as merely a result of unhappiness “about rising COVID cases/deaths” in the island country.
That’s pure bunk. The slogans shouted by thousands who risked imprisonment or worse were about an end to the Communist dictatorship installed in the 1950s. “Freedom!” “Enough!” they cried.
