Referring to food as “exotic” creates distance between individuals and groups and “reinforces xenophobia and racism,” according to a recent Washington Post article which, instead, suggests people ask themselves why they are unfamiliar with certain foods and question their willingness to change that.
The Thursday article, written by the paper’s food section staff writer, Daniela Galarza, and titled “Stop calling food ‘exotic,’” begins by quoting a couple who praised Afghan restaurants and referred to the cuisine served as “exotic,” in an old Post essay.
Though she admitted the couple “meant no harm,” their use of the term “exotic” indicates that they see the world through a “presumptive Anglocentric perspective,” according to Galarza.

In a way, I feel sorry for these hateful, racist lunatics. They really are deranged.
OTOH, I despise them totally for their sad, hideous hate of everything, and trying on making life miserablef for all normal people.
I ignore them as much as possible.

View these individuals as 4 year olds. Ignore them. Do not feed them as they will only grow worse.

Only in their fevered brains is calling ethnic food “exotic” xenophobic and racist. Excuse me while I munch my tacos, wash it down with cerveza, then a shot of mezcal from Oaxaca.

Every single day individuals who can actually still THINK make discriminatory decisions on all aspects of their lives. But the Thought Police, in the GUISE of the Post, must discriminate against those who discriminate. A such most such discriminatory decisions are deemed racist by those who are unqualified to "deem" ANYTHING. Choose (discriminate between) coffee or tea and the Thought Police will tell you why you are a racist for that choice ... anything to create fear, guilt, indecision, or second guessing oneself such that someone else is enabled to TELL YOU WHAT A BAD PERSON YOU ARE. Allow this utter stupidity to rule your every move (as those obsessed with big tech DO) and you will deserve exactly what you get: transformation into a SHEEP.

But if we don’t label these foods exotic, how will we know not to culturally appropriate them?

These twisted extremists are so totally full of excremental viewpoints. I would gladly ignore them like other trolling clickbait, if not for the way the mainstream media seem to look to them for inspiration and truth.

Oh just shut up you East Coast Elitist! To someone who always eats hot dogs, an Italian sausage may seem exotic. Someone used to boxed cookies might find bakery cookies exotic. It is not racist to enjoy and acknowledge that something is different than you are used to. You might like it or might dislike it. If you like it thats great. If you don't like it, that's ok too. It doesn't mean you are racist. It means you didn't like the food item. Stop being so PC and sensitive.

No, it doesn't. Exotic simply means "originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country." Write about something that matters, without lying, if you can, and stop trying to find xenophobia and racism everywhere you look. You might have more luck looking in the mirror.

I guess I'll just call it 'foreign slop' not to offend. I certainly don't want be those words they use if I say 'exotic'.
