Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Saturday shared a celebratory message for Juneteenth, a new federal holiday, celebrating the emancipation of Black slaves after the Civil War.
"Today is Juneteenth, a special celebration of the fact that our country strives each and every day to make good on its promise to protect the inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all men and all women who are created equal," he tweeted. The tweet emphasizes the freedoms listed in the Declaration of Independence — the same freedoms Americans fought for during the Civil War — rather than the political differences the country is currently grappling with.

I propose a new holiday celebration for John Wayne's birthday, May 26, 1907.An actor, but with a real American image.

I suggest one day to replace all the pandering days that have been foisted on us over the years. We can call it "Piltdown Day" to honor all the fakes.

Real History of Juneteenth. Juneteenth commemorates when the Union Army, on behalf of a Republican Congress and a Republican President, freed the last slave from their Democrat Party slaveholders.

Thanks for the pandering, Ted.
Every time I start to slip into the mistake of liking you, you always manage to remind me why I don't.

Marxists trying to lay claim that it was they who freed the slaves, the only thing of note the Marxist Democrats did for their cause in 1865 was the founding of the KKK, BTW the Emancipation Proclamation by Lincoln was in 1863, and yes Abe just happened to be Republican.

Within 3 years Euro-Americans will be told they can't celebrate Juneteenth since it "is a holiday for African-Americans so you can't appropriate it."

So, if Juneteenth is now officially recognized as the date Republicans freed the slaves, then what is the official date that DemocRats re-enslaved Blacks on the DNC Plantation?

Ted Cruz, surely no idiot, once again proves Republicans are completely incapable of basic messaging. Instead of his vacuous, cliche ridden tweet he should have taken the opportunity on the passage of this dubious holiday to inform the public of some basic and apparently forgotten facts.
He should have pointed out that Juneteenth exists thanks to the Republican Party. Abe Lincoln freed the slaves who were in bondage due to the Democrat Party. Hundred of thousands soldiers summoned by the Republican controlled Federal government died freeing black people. Republicans passed the amendments that codified the citizenship of black people in the face of relentless opposition by the party of slavery.
When will Republicans value the cornucopia of issues served on silver platters by the racist Democrats? Juneteenth should never have been made a federal holiday but since it was inform the people, including black people, just how it was made possible and which party wanted to keep slavery alive.

I disagree that a conservative senator from Texas should be RINO'd for acknowledging a date that is significant to a large number of his constituents. I'm more upset that Cruz used communist twitter than the content of his message. I think even Trump, if he were in the WH as he should be, would have done something similar, and given the veto-proof majority vote on the bill in Congress, he'd have probably signed it. I never heard President Trump snub blacks, latinos, or any particular ethnic group, gratuitously or otherwise. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), initially was blocking the bill but he withdrew his hold and attended a Juneteenth celebration in WI and was booed by the crowd. Cruz was not over the top pandering like some politicians from the states that many of the negative repliers are from. The Senate unanimously passed holiday resolution on Tuesday. The House vote on the bill passed 415-14. Like Cruz or not, he's better than the average Republican bear and a darned site better than any democrat.

I'll cut Ted some slack. Nobody wants to be the only person to vote against another day to close the post office and banks. Next July 9, O J's birthday. June 19th is the birthday of Lou Gehrig so I'll celebrate that.

I'd like to see a list showing all of the Democrat slave owners vs all of the Republican slave owners...the former would be very full, the latter would be very empty, so I would appreciate it if all you Commucrats would stop acting like you invented freedom.

Obviously the people blasting Ted Cruz did not read the article yesterday by The Gateway Pundit referencing the reason why Juneteenth is important to the Democrats. Above poster comment "Celebrating the day Democrats were finally forced to free their slaves" sums it up quite well.

#20 - I read it, and I am still not cutting Cruz any slack. His job is to stand up to this kind of ignorant pandering stupidity - not participate in it.
Not that he is alone by any stretch - there wasn't a single republican senator that opposed this tripe, and only 15 or so congressman. Even MTG votes for this BS.
And what happened? Not two hours after they got their latest demand, here comes Cori Bush demanding reparations on top. Whatever you subsidize, you get more of. I expect Republicans to stop feeding this nonsense, and draw a line against it. Stop worrying about losing the 2% of the black vote and grow some balls. If they gave a million dollars each to blacks in reparations, they would still get 2% of the vote.

#21, you are the one that doesn't get it. It is not BS as you call it. It is about freedom. Maybe the article from Gateway Pundit should be read again.
