Sen. Bernard Sanders wants more free lunches in the massive infrastructure plan Congress is writing—and this time he means it literally. Mr. Sanders’ plan would continue to give free meals to all schoolchildren, as the federal government has been doing during the COVID-19 pandemic, even if their parents are wealthy enough to pay for the meals. “In the richest country in the world, it is an outrage that millions of children struggle with hunger every day,” said Mr. Sanders, a democratic socialist from Vermont who is chairman of the Senate Budget Committee.(Snip)The federal government spent $18.7 billion on school meals in 2019,

Uh, food stamps. Nothing wrong with taking your lunch to school. And if you have never been in a school during lunch about half the food is dumped.

Why just lunch. How about breakfast. How about snacks before going home. How about bags of food given out on Friday afternoon to hold them over for the the week end. Oh wait.. already do all that.

Bernie, did you know that lots of recipients of food stamps sell their allotment, fifty cents on the dollar? And Barack Obola, by loosening the rules on the use of food stamps, made it more lucrative to do so?
When you talk about children going hungry, think about what I said.

#1, IMHO the trend began with the GI bill after WWII. It conditioned the citizens to believe that government provisions are a wonderful thing. The politicians began to understand they could purchase votes by 'giving' people 'things'. From that time on it is been incremental creep.

End all hot lunch programs: #2 is right. Gargantuan waste. Uneaten & tossed food. My sisters and I attended jr. high in the poorest neighborhood in Kenosha WI in the mid-70s. We all, poor, middle class and upper class carried a lunch: a brown bag with a sandwich, a piece of fruit (usually an apple or a banana) and chips. Sandwiches were usually PB&J or bologna. Sometimes there was a can of soda. Frozen to keep everything cool until lunch. Milk was free. The difference? The poor minority students in our school generally came from FAMILIES -- mom, dad, and children. If you can't put a sandwich, a piece of fruit and a bag of chips together in a bag for your kids and organize yourself enough to have those foods in the house, you are not fit to raise a child; you are one.

Compassionate Conservative Chris Christie of NJ rolled out a program in which public schools in "underserved" areas serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner year-round. How cool is that? Babymama doesn't have to bother to make meals for her keeeeeids and the food stamp money, which sees no corresponding cut, goes to junk food or gets converted to cash instead.

I'll be happy to provide the free lunches at Bernie's expense. We're having foie gras with a side of caviar, followed by lobster rolls and saffron infused mac and cheese. I'll send you the invoice.

Yes - - those 255-lb. 13-year-olds are definitely struggling with hunger. They're hungry all the time.
Let's install an airport luggage carousel in every school - - but instead of suitcases - - let's have a continuous belt of greasy, fatty foods for the kiddies to enjoy.

How about Comrade Sanders sells two of his three mansions and donates the proceeds for free lunches if he cares so much about the little comrades in our communist run schools. Share the wealth eh Comrade Bernie? You are a minion of Satan.

There are not "millions of children" in the US struggling with hunger every day. The real outrage is politicians who continue to make such claims as an excuse to institute their nanny government policies. They won't be satisfied until we've achieved 100 percent dependence.

Starving children in a country with the most Obese Parents in the civilized world ?
If children are starving it is the fault of the parents.
There are enough programs already in existence to feed these children.

Those union workers will need to work for free to prepare those free lunches. The farmers will need to work for free. The transport people will be needing to work for free. Sanders and his family will also need to work for free. Money is corrupting. If things were fundamentally changed by the communists so everything is free, everything will be paradise.

We have it here at our school. Guess what? Waste, waste, waste! It’s crap food off the back of a truck. Our cafeteria staff are prevented from cooling nutritious meals from scratch. Everything must be the horrible quality processed food - heavy on the carbohydrates - that come from the scraps of the slaughter. But hey, everybody gets a “free” meal. It’s a crime.

Bernie, go make a list of all the welfare programs in the country, then we will talk. See you in a couple of months, as it will take you that long to compile the list.

"No free lunch? Hold my bong," says Comrade Bernie. The trick here is to know of such legislation in advance, and whether it will pass; that's how our esteemed members of the US Congress become incredibly wealthy while driving the nation into insolvency. Have your spouse buy large amounts of stock in the main foodservice vendors used by school systems, then sell after the stock increases; it's easy to win when the casino is rigged in your favor.
