Senator Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) said he would oppose raising the corporate tax rate to 28 percent, a key component of the Biden administration’s infrastructure bill, in a radio interview with West Virginia’s Metro News.
“As the bill exists today, it needs to be changed,” Manchin told host Hoppy Kercheval. The senator added that he could support raising the corporate tax rate to 25 percent, but not to 28 percent as envisioned in the bill, because it would hurt the country’s market competitiveness.
“It’s more than just me, Hoppy,” Manchin said. “There’s six or seven other Democrats who feel very strongly about this. We have to be competitive, and we’re not

Manchin slithers out from under a rock every now and again to get himself famous for five minutes. He's taking full advantage of this little bit of power he has. It's disgusting.

Grandstanding to get more pork for West Virginia. He'll vote for the "improved" bill in the end.

Too little and too late. Party loyalty is sec1ondary to repesenting West Virginians. West Virginia may be the most destroyed state from the soon upcoming Green New Deal legislation and related massive federal regulations.

He is due for re-election 2022. He knows the 8 billion in real infrastructure projects won't get him a second term.

Is there a good WV Republican who’d have a chance of defeating Manchin in 2022?

FTA: "The senator added that he could support raising the corporate tax rate to 25 percent, but not to 28 percent"
The ultraconservative, free-market-loving Mancini won't tolerate any rate above 27.75%! I'm sure glad we have this staunch conservative on OUR side.

So he will stop whatever he decides is garbage & not care because none of dem can hurt him or dare threaten.
Especially when you think of all the ways he can hurt dem.

Ref #11, I live here and am unaware of any good Republicans. The ones who vote the right way in congress are still "never Trumpers" and refused to lift a finger when he was being railroaded during the impeachments. My own rep, McKinley, is the worst. He will not be getting my vote in 2022. I'd rather vote for the democrat than a coward.

I detest Manchin. He is the most disingenuous critter in Congress. His daughter, Heather Bresch, may be worse. In case you did not know, she is the former CEO of the drug company that spiked the price of Epipens to $300 apiece. She was also involved in outrageous academic fraud. She was awarded an MBA diploma from West Virginia University. A newspaper discovered Bresch had completed less than half the credits in the program. Eventually, the degree was rescinded. The President of WVU (close Manchin family friend, the Provost, and two officials in the college of business went down in the scandal. As for Heather, in 2015, she said, “I still think I earned my degree.”

I don't think there's a demonrat that understands that corporations don't pay taxes, they just pass them on to the poor consumer.

In 2012, Manchin won the senate with 60% of the vote, and in 2018, he won reelection with 49% of the vote. Trending downward in a conservative state that awarded Donald Trump 68% of the vote in both 2016 and 2020. In fact, Trump made all 55 counties red in both elections. Manchin knows the voters are paying attention to what he does, and he is not torn between what Chuck Schumer demands of him and what the voters back home demand.
