She apparently asked what happened to CNN among Republicans (which had to be a bad-ratings question). Zucker blamed Trump, but didn't consider that maybe CNN's incessantly emotional and ideological tone against Trump played a part. Round two of the Democrat debate is kicking off Tuesday night with ten Democrat candidates on the stage, but the first night’s lineup comes with a prominent sense of irony as all candidates on the debate stage are white. CNN split the 20 qualified candidates during a live draw on Anderson Cooper 360 this month. It separated longtime frontrunner Joe Biden (D) from his two fiercest competitors: Sen. The Pasco Sheriff's Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and an FWC nuisance wildlife trapper responded to reports of an alligator bothering swimmers off of Durney Key, just west of Port Richey.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the gator was chasing swimmers in the Pithlachascotee (or Cotee) River, a popular spot for scallopers that feeds into the Gulf.

At one point he attempted to take a photo with a woman, but a protester jumped in between them in the camera, continuing the chant.
Mr. Cruz was eventually moved to a private area. The Texas Republican has been a staunch advocate for President Trump’s border policies, which has resulted in a higher amount of migrants, including children, being detained.

Last week, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a broad antitrust investigation into whether unnamed technology companies have engaged in anti-competitive activities. This is in addition to DOJ's joint antitrust efforts with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC); DOJ is tackling Apple and Google, while the FTC has Amazon and Facebook. The FTC formed a separate task force to monitor competition in the technology industry earlier this year. Robert Mueller’s less-than-stellar performance last week before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees seems to have left just about everybody trying to explain it. Descriptions on both the left and the right sides of the aisle included words like “ineffective,” “confused,” “struggling,” and “frail.”
A consensus soon formed perhaps best summarized by a tweet from radio talk-show personality Mark Levin:

Bringing greatness back to crime-ridden cities like Baltimore, reducing the cost of quality health care, jobs, secure borders, and plenty of other issues will determine the voters’ decision in 2020. But another concern is growing steadily, about a multi-pronged menace that directly threatens American lives, our rule of law, even the integrity of elections — and, by extension, the operation of our Constitution itself.
It is vital that the Democrats running for president be asked about fighting this violent threat during their debates Tuesday and Wednesday nights in Detroit — a city suffering the second-highest violent crime rate in the country, and run by Democrats for the last 60 years.
Voters not on vacation will likely be closely watching this week’s Democratic primary debates. But so will party leaders in a handful of key states. These are the last debates under the low qualification bar initially set by the Democratic National Committee. The criteria will be considerably tougher for the next set of debates, Sept. 12-13. Which means by then or shortly after, some of the 24 candidates currently building national name recognition will likely be dropping out of the presidential race. And they might be persuaded to help the Democratic Party seize control of the Senate from Republicans in 2020.

President Trump issued a number of pardons Monday afternoon shortly before meeting with inner city pastors at the White House. The individuals accepting the pardons are Michael Tedesco, Roy Wayne McKeever, Rodney Takumi, John Richard Bubala and Chalmer Lee Williams.

On Friday, a federal judge in Kentucky tossed Nicholas Sandmann’s defamation case against the Washington Post. Sandmann, the Covington Catholic student smeared by the Post and many other outlets earlier this year as a smirking, MAGA-hat-wearing racist who had blocked Native American elder Nathan Phillips’s path, promises an appeal.
On appeal, Sandmann is likely to win. I’ll lay out why, after a quick review of what happened.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who is accused of being one of the major architects of 9/11, has seemingly floated the possibility of becoming part of a suit against Saudi Arabia in an effort to avoid the death penalty. Mohammed, who has previously expressed his desire to die as a martyr, has changed his tone to avoid a death sentence at the hands of a military commission in Guantanamo Bay, where he is currently being housed.
The suit, filed Friday in a New York federal court by victims of the 9/11 attacks, implicates Saudi Arabia as being complicit in the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people nearly 18 years ago.

The nonprofit, Opus Bono Sacerdotii, has reportedly provided money, shelter, and legal aid to accused priests since 2002, setting up meetings in unmarked buildings with the clergymen in the tiny town of Dryden, Michigan. One of the organization’s founders, Rev. Eduard Perrone of the Archdiocese of Detroit, was reportedly removed from ministry earlier this month due to an allegation that he sexually abused a minor decades ago, which he denies.
