When the closing gavels came down on the 2016 political conventions, the news cycle did not ease into the usual midsummer lull but instead locked directly into a state of high alarm, with Donald J. Trump at its center. In the days following Trump’s nomination, there came reports of senior Republican officials considering ways to replace him on the ballot (ABC News), of “suicidal” despair inside the Trump campaign (CNBC), and of a growing list of Republican leaders who planned to publicly support Hillary Clinton (Time). Fox News reported that friends of Trump’s were planning to stage an intervention, involving

During a joint White House press conference with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, President Donald Trump said something has to be done about social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook censoring conservatives. That’s part of a larger discussion that Senator Josh Hawley’s been leading about making social media companies liable for the content that is on their platform, which they’re not currently. Obama’s speech writer-turned-Iran-echo-chamber Ben Rhodes was ordered by Judge Royce Lamberth to answer questions under oath about the Benghazi scandal — but he appears to be defying the court order.Even worse, the State Department and Justice Department are objecting to Judicial Watch who is now seeking an in-person interview with Mr. Rhodes! In January, Judicial Watch submitted a court-ordered discovery plan seeking depositions of Obama-era officials connected to the Benghazi scandal, including Susan Rice and Ben Rhodes. The discovery plan stems from a December, 2018 ruling by Judge Royce Lamberth ordering the State Department and DOJ to submit discovery in

Senator Cory Booker got his sanctimonious platitudes mixed up yesterday in an on-air interview with Chris Matthews yesterday on MSNBC. The topic was "hate" and the unspoken target beyond obvious, so perhaps secure in the knowledge that there would no probing challenges coming his way from MSDNC, he put his brain on auto-pilot as he activated the synapses, leading to his store of vaguely profound-sounding empty banalities. Last Friday, in Christchurch, New Zealand, one of the more civilized places on earth, 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant, an Australian, turned on his cellphone camera and set out to livestream his massacre of as many innocent Muslim worshippers as he could kill. New York — Despite Mayor Bill de Blasio’s attempts to diversify the New York City’s specialized high schools, only a small number of black and Hispanic eighth graders received admission offers to those schools this year. Richmond, Va. — Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has again vetoed a bill aimed at preventing so-called “sanctuary cities” in the state. Northam, a Democrat, said he was vetoing the legislation Tuesday because it imposes an unneeded burden on local law enforcement officials and “sends a chilling message.” It was the same statement he issued last year when he vetoed the same legislation. A sanctuary city is a term without legal definition but generally means a locality that limits cooperation with federal immigration enforcement activities. Republicans said the legislation is needed to ensure federal immigration efforts aren’t hampered. The bill narrowly passed

The 9th Circuit Court previously stated ICE would have to detain illegal aliens immediately after release or they would be exempt from later detainment.

Theresa May’s crushing defeat in the House of Commons this week over her plan for Britain to leave the European Union was actually a great victory for her, provided that you make a simple assumption: that she and her colleagues never wanted Britain to leave the EU in the first place. One such policy was the Left’s support for late-term abortion. When she lived in China, Zhou, like many young Chinese, didn’t consider abortion to be a big deal. But her view changed

NEW YORK— The FBI was investigating President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney and fixer for nearly a year before agents raided his home and office, documents released Tuesday show. The search warrant, while heavily redacted, offered new details about the federal inquiry of Cohen’s business dealings and the FBI raids of his Manhattan home and office. It shows the federal inquiry into Michael Cohen had been going on since July 2017 — far longer than had previously been known. Lanny Davis, an attorney for Cohen,

If the National Rifle Association had published a political pinup calendar in 2007, Kirsten Gillibrand would have been Miss January. Seriously. The Democrat had just been elected to Congress from a Republican-dominated exurban-rural district north of Albany after running on an expansive pro-gun platform. She quickly began churning out firearms-friendly bills, including a roll-back of restrictions on gun ownership in Washington, DC. The NRA responded with a big smile and an “A” rating, its highest, and Gillibrand beamed right back. But in 2009, the wind shifted: Gillibrand was

Addressing an audience at Austin’s South by Southwest conference, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called capitalism an “irredeemable system.” “Capitalism is the ideology of capital,” she says. “The most important thing is the concentration of capital and to seek and maximize profit.” (snip) In fact, it would be incredibly easy to argue, as a recent Vox article does, that nearly every advancement in human well-being has taken place in the short blip of human history since the Industrial Revolution. That article miraculously neglects to mention free markets

Mayor Bill de Blasio spent $300 million to create just 3,000 jobs, a top city official admitted Monday. Testifying at a City Council hearing, James Patchett, president of the city’s Economic Development Corp., defended the slow progress of the mayor’s $1.35 billion “New York Works” program, launched in 2017. The program is supposed to create 100,000 jobs each paying at least $50,000 by 2027. Patchett said the city has spent $300 million so far investing in job training and infrastructure for companies that expand or relocate to the city. “We have made great progress

The “#NeverTrump” movement is going through its death throes, sustained only by a dwindling remnant of followers who are too greatly afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome to ever recover their senses. Asked to comment on the condition of the movement that was once the darling of his detractors in the mainstream media, President Trump was happy to point out that opposition to him within the Republican Party is “on mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.” It’s a fair characterization. Many of their strongest writers and thinkers have seen the light, admitted they were hung up on personal animosities, and recognized Donald Trump as the incredibly

Presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren on Monday night called for abolishing the Electoral College. The Massachusetts Democrat said during a town hall on CNN that she would back a plan to scrap the process and move the country to a national popular vote.“My view is that every vote matters,” Warren said to applause. “And the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting and that means get rid of the Electoral College — and every vote counts.” The electoral process, she said, effectively disenfranchises voters in states dominated by one party. “Come a general election, presidential candidates

The "Trump of the Tropics" is in Washington, D.C., this week and is expected to meet with President Trump at the White House on Tuesday in what is expected to be a friendly meeting where the two discuss trade and mutual interests. But Jair Bolsonaro, the far-right Brazilian president, did not leave his country on a high note. He has been dogged by a widely criticized tweet from a reported video taken during the carnival and there is also speculation in the country about who knew about last year´s planned killing of a black Rio de Janeiro councilwoman.Bolsonaro sat down Monday with

I am excited by the opportunity to share my perspective and views with the Fox News audience and to help shape the dialogue at this important juncture in our history. More importantly, I’m eager to learn from the experience. The 2020 presidential election is a consequential moment in American democracy. Everything we believe in as Americans will be examined and, in essence, ratified by our votes. But it concerns me, as it does the majority of good Americans, that our national debate has become hostile and disrespectful. We no longer simply agree to disagree. Too often we demonize the intentions

The people who thirst for justice over Washington’s continued attempts to deny Donald Trump the power of the presidency make a mistake in treating Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe as an actual whodunnit. (Snip)The “who” that “dunnit” was none other than Barack Obama’s CIA and FBI turning that facial absurdity into probable cause to go fishing into the life of Donald Trump to find something, anything, that might damage him. The object of the Mueller probe was never to investigate collusion because nobody could possibly believe something so idiotic. It was to create suspense in stupid people

Recently, non-government organization Truth in Accounting published a report about the financial condition of the 75 largest cities of America. As it turns out, 63 out of 75 cities in America were not able to pay bills at the end of the fiscal year of 2017. The final result of this study was the calculation of the burden borne by taxpayers in these American cities. The formula is simple: the financial balance of the city (positive or negative) is divided by the number of inhabitants. The result is a good assessment of how effectively the city authorities work, depending on

Rep. Ilhan Omar, a freshman Democrat from Minnesota, has become widely known for her attacks on supporters of Israel. Ms. Omar is a naturalized citizen whose Somali refugee family settled in the U.S. when she was a teenager. Tens of thousands of Somali refugees relocated to the U.S.—some 25,000 in the Minneapolis area—to escape the starvation, famine and civil war that turned Somalia into a lawless, failed state in the early 1990s. Another name is worth recognition and remembrance, especially among Somali refugees: Lawrence Freedman.

One of the more striking characteristics of modern American politics is the irresponsible willingness of inattentive voters to be played over and over again by both major political parties. Very few citizens seem willing these days to take responsibility for their actions or inactions. So, instead of confronting their own ignorance, voters automatically blame politicians for being two-faced. Then, these same voters overwhelmingly return their political incumbents to office. Small wonder then, there’s small change in Washington. And large frustration outside. Because bait and switch routinely works so well, both parties

Every American citizen has the right to ask public policy questions from his lawmakers in the public sphere. Lawmakers also have the right to answer or refuse. Ms. Ilhan Omar is not an exception because she is a Muslim. Our Congress is not a safe zone for Muslims or any other group. Here are my ten questions: 1. Why don´t you defend the rights of Muslim women in Somalia and other Muslim-majority countries? 2. Why don´t you talk about the violation of women´s rights by enforcing sharia in some Muslim nations?

When the newly elected Rep. Ilhan Omar kicked off her acceptance speech with “As-Salaam-Alaikum,” I felt a space of belonging. There was a feeling that American Muslims had arrived—but what arrived with them, and which version of Islam was going to be represented through her and fellow Muslim freshman Rep. Rashida Tlaib? As-Salaam-Alaikum means “peace be with you,” but how Omar has carried herself in the weeks that followed has been anything put peaceful. Here’s a quick rundown of her recent actions. Omar accused American Jews of holding dual loyalty toward Israel. However, there was no word

KNOXVILLE, Iowa — It’s caucus season here in Iowa, and Democratic presidential candidates are swarming the place like flies at a cattle barn. We’ve talked policy with Amy Klobuchar and Kirsten Gillibrand over beers, and watched Kamala Harris work the crowd at a bar in Indianola. We’ve been in what once would have been “smoke-filled rooms” with Steve Bullock and Cory Booker. We’ve been stuffed into what seemed like enormous mosh pits oozing with adoring fans of Elizabeth Warren. The Iowa caucus offers Democrats an opportunity to hone their pitch to rural America.

As a federal prosecutor in South Florida, Alex Acosta, now the Secretary of Labor, gave pedophile Jeffrey Epstein the “deal of a lifetime.” A federal investigation had revealed dozens of underage victims of Epstein. Yet, through a plea agreement with then-U.S. Attorney Acosta, Epstein managed to plead to only two state prostitution charges, and only one involving a minor. Consequently, Epstein served just 13 months in state prison. He was housed in a private wing at the Palm Beach County jail and allowed work release privileges. Epstein’s year of “incarceration” reportedly included trips to New York and the Virgin Islands.

Beto O’Rourke is the Democratic front-runner today because he stands for nothing. In the first 24 hours of his presidential race, the former congressman from El Paso raised $6.1 million. That’s a record haul, and to date, it is the most meaningful objective measure of support in the crowded Democratic primary field. Polls this early measure only name recognition. Beto is the front-runner. The question is why. The answer is bleak. The other Democratic candidates have either accomplishments or ideas to point to. Joe Biden was the vice president and played a large (if baneful) role in the Senate for decades,

On a tiny island between Madagascar and the east coast of Africa, scientists have discovered a mother lode of rocks that shouldn´t be there. The island is made from igneous, volcanic rock that hails from the oceanic crust. But the mystery rocks come from continental crust — more specifically, from a river delta or beach. "It doesn´t look like anything that could have formed on an island like that," said Cornelia Class, a geochemist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University. Funded by a National Geographic Society grant, Class recently led a scientific expedition to the island,

New York- I might be slightly less hostile to the Green New Deal, had I not walked home the other Sunday in a hail storm. Even before the BB-sized bits of ice came shooting down from the heavens that morning, this winter has been brutal, from Gotham to the Golden Gate. Our Lady of Perpetual Limelight, Saint Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, demands that America battle so-called “deadly, manmade global warming” as if it were Nazi Germany. Ten-year cost: $93 trillion. But this supposed threat somehow seems less menacing than Adolf Hitler and the Wehrmacht.Any given winter does not equal “climate.”

Instead she packed up her belongings and headed to St. Barnabas Church near her Greensboro, North Carolina home, seeking sanctuary. She has been there ever since. “We need to violate the law in order to do the right thing, and the right thing for me is to be a mother,” Ortega told NBC News earlier this month. “They’re laws created by men

Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos and his allies have publicly speculated about how the National Enquirer acquired racy texts he sent his girlfriend, including at one point hinting Saudi Arabia or the White House may have been involved. The reality is simpler: Michael Sanchez, the brother of Mr. Bezos’ lover, sold the billionaire’s secrets for $200,000 to the Enquirer’s publisher, said people familiar with the matter. The inside story of the deal between American Media LLC and Mr. Sanchez, brother of Lauren Sanchez,

The focus of the special is homelessness and the ways in which it has changed the city. There’s a section featuring angry residents of one area of the city who are screaming at their representatives for action. They want the tent cities managed and they’re tired of calling the police only to find out the police can arrest people
