The number of women drinking to excess is on the rise. Experts are worried about the clear and troubling trend showing women, especially moms, developing alcoholism.(Snip) Alcohol is killing more women today than opioids. In fact, the number of deaths attributed to alcohol spiked 85 percent in just 10 years, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington. “Women drink a good 2½ times more frequently than they did 50 years ago,” Dr. Steven Wyatt said. Wyatt says there are many reasons women are so at risk. “So it´s actually absorbed more rapidly by women than men,” he said.

That can happen when your millennial kid is still living at home wanting to "borrow" the car to go to the Earth Day party.

Mothers, stay with the fathers of your children so you have financial and emotional support. And don’t try to have it all. If you can’t juggle it, drop it. Financial pressures are greater today but expectations are too. Drop some of the expectations and enjoy life.

This is rich. Years ago, when we lived in Seattle for a period of time, it had the dubious double distinction of being the alcoholic and suicide capital of the country.
Sounds as though nothing has changed. Dreadful depressing gray weather all the time (the rain was a relief from that) and jokes like “what day was summer last year?” were a large part of the problem.
Maybe it could be blamed on the ubiquitous “daylight basements” up there where kids of all ages have to be indoors and play all day instead of heading outdoors or to the local playground?

More money for non-essensitials, extended adolescence, binge drinking in the 4 year long party known as higher education, later age for giving birth. Duh! So many reasons, so little time.

That´s what screaming while wearing p´ hats and listening to the useless droll of the alphabet media does to you.

Alcohol is a main cause of many cancers.
For women, alcohol consumption is a risk factor for breast cancer. (Abortion is also a risk factor for breast cancer, but the msm don´t want women to know this.)
I was never much of a drinker. But once I learned how risky it was to imbibe alcohol, I quit entirely (except for a celebratory glass of hard cider, once or twice a year!).

#1, I would hazard a guess that, if there is a difference, it is that the feminazis have done their best to devalue and denigrate "Just" being a mother raising children. Too many evil leftists, often homosexual, women want to push the concept that a woman who dedicates her life to birthing and raising children is a failure.
IMO, this is exactly backwards, like all else the feminazis say and do, like choosing murdering babies as their highest goal.
Motherhood is a wonderful, amazing, miraculous thing and no woman who successfully raises children should nevee be made to feel less accomplished. They are the literal creators of the future.

I´m often amazed to see friends (women in their 50s on up) joking on social media about the amount of cocktails or wine they drink. These are the same women who would be horrified if a friend lit up a cigarette or ate non-organic veggies but they ignore the health consequences of drinking.

I blame oprahism and good morning America.
You have to be wasted to ingest such crap day after day. Sober ladies invest their time in profitable enterprises.

Poster #5, cite your sources for Seattle being the alcoholic and suicide capital of the country. Daylight basements are simply basements that have windows in them, there weren´t built so children would have a place to play. I have no idea what you are talking about. Yes, it rains and is cloudy but no more than a lot of other cities in the U.S.

I blame shows like "Sex and the City" and just about any evening show - they all have lots and lots of drinking.
Personally, I don´t like the feeling of loss of control that alcohol brings, but apparently, I´m a minority.

#9, back when I was a stay at home mom, people would ask me if I had a job. My answer was always, “Yes. I have the most important job in the world, raising the next generation”.

Alcoholism killed my father, his sister and their parents. I don´t touch the stuff. This love of over indulging liquor is worrisome. Too many people think wine and beer do not fall into that category. That somehow only hard liquor can get you into trouble. Binge drinking and the alcoholic weekend warrior is especially troubling on our college campuses.

#14 has a good point. Nearly every woman I know is glued to the TV screen day and night and most shows, especially the soaps, glamorize drinking as the way to cope.

I guess it´s all this empowerment women are expected to want. I have no idea why they want to do what men do. My ex tried for years to teach me to change a tire. Ha! I learned my lesson earlier when he bought me a sewing machine and expected me to make my own clothes. I guess I can understand wanting to feel you can be or do anything, but practically, realistically, you really don´t need all that freedom. We always had the power.

I don´t drink, I don´t like the taste. I can´t help noticing that TV and movies are full of women characters who drink like fishes. All they want to do is get into the wine. I read an article that postulated that since smoking is not allowed any more, drinking has taken its place on movies and television.

Re #13, I lived in Seattle in the early 60s. I have no inclination to go and search for data, but it was in the local media then. I am sorry to have caused anyone to take offense, but I have no reason to back down on my personal experience there.
At least one neighbor in our fairly upscale neighborhood in Laurelhurst (she was our landlord as well) never opened her draperies, never got dressed, sat in her recliner all day. She had a young teenaged boy. Depression was a very serious problem in Seattle then.
I was a member of a support organization for a facility there that was devoted to the housing and care of children as young as 2 with psychiatric problems (not developmentally disabled, but with psychiatric disorders).
It was a wonderful place in many ways, but there was a downside. The rain was not a problem. It was usually light, like English rain. The long long stretches of gray days were. Many could not cope with them. Those who could afford it left for sunshine times in California and Hawaii.
Women were at home with their children; men got out, went to business.

My sister-in-law, a registered nurse, worked for many years on the Suicide Hotline in Seattle. At family get togethers she would share with us the most frequent advice she gave, “Go outside!” She’d tell callers to go outside and walk even if it was raining because beneficial light rays from the sun still make it through the cloud cover. She explained to us that the constantly overcast skies in western Washington were a real problem for mental health and one of the best ways to combat it was to spend time outside regardless the weather. I realize I’m not citing a scientific study but my sister-in-law’s real world experience is worth something.

#13, I do not know about suicides, but any city with 152 rainy days per year, on average, is a dreary place.
Now, if you want to distort things, as Seattle defenders like to do, you can point out that the total annual rainfall in Seattle isn´t as high as some other places. But that is very misleading, depending on where you compare it to.
In Seattle it rains lightly, often just a mist, with dreary low clouds roughly half of all days. In many other places with higher total rainfall averages, the rain falls in short periods, higher rainfall rates and then clears up. So you may have many fewer dreary, rainy days in a year in places which have higher total rainfall.

Amen #22. I lived in the center of the puget sound convergence zone for 30 years. It didnt rain much, thats true. The slight constant drizzle would not even soak a good pendleton shirt if you kept busy. Our motto was "buy a piece of property, put a roof over it. We described the weather as 50 shades of grey, long before the movie. As far as drinking goes, I call barbrastreisand. Society used to be a lot more private than it is with the modern victim cults ruling the land. Look at liquor consumption for the facts, plz. We have enough victim classes.
