The Department of Justice is exploring potential criminal charges against former U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) officials who attempted to block the Trump administration’s leadership changes at the federally funded think tank Monday, a senior DOJ official told the Daily Caller News Foundation. The official, who requested anonymity, told the DCNF the DOJ is examining whether certain USIP actions — such as the removal and destruction of internal and external door locks — created illegal fire hazards. The official also flagged the widespread distribution of internal flyers instructing USIP staff not to cooperate with incoming Trump administration officials as potentially obstructive conduct. USIP leadership escalated its resistance —

They really are nuts. Do they really imagine that they can somehow 'hold out' and continue when the President and government are against them? Stupid in the extreme, and let's hope that there are some criminal charges that can be layed against them.

Excuse me, but what happened to plain old 'insubordination'? When the boss tells you to do something, you have the choices of doing it, quitting or whistleblowing an illegal order. But sabotage such as this, is beyond the pale and should result in their immediate firing, loss of benefits AND charges concerning destruction of federal property. They made the new rules about what constitutes insurrection, they need to suffer under those rules.

Re #2, insubordination is cause for being fired, but outside the military, is not a crime. They are looking for crimes to charge them with.

Court weighs Louisiana redistricting with
second majority-Black district

It was not clear at oral arguments on Monday how the Supreme Court will rule on a challenge to Louisiana’s latest redistricting plan. The state and a group of Black voters ask the justices to reinstate a congressional map, enacted by the Louisiana legislature last year, that created a second majority-Black district. A federal court threw the map out, agreeing with a group of voters who describe themselves as “non-African American” that the new map was an unconstitutional racial gerrymander — that is, it sorted voters primarily based on race. Several of the court’s conservative justices expressed skepticism about the map and the 2022 ruling on which Louisiana relied

Former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will no longer receive Secret Service protection after President Donald Trump revoked his security detail, the agency confirmed on Monday. The decision comes months before the protection was originally set to expire, reports The Washington Post. Mayorkas, who served under President Joe Biden, was not automatically entitled to protection after leaving office in January. However, Biden had extended his security detail for six months, which would have lasted until mid-July. Trump’s decision to terminate the protection cut that timeline short.

The U.S. military has escalated operations against Yemen’s Houthi rebels, extending a campaign of airstrikes that entered its tenth straight day. The latest response included deploying a second aircraft carrier to the region, signaling a significant shift in U.S. military posture away from the Indo-Pacific and toward the Red Sea. The decision followed renewed Houthi threats to attack shipping routes and fire missiles at Israel. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the USS Carl Vinson to leave the Pacific and join the USS Harry S. Truman in the Middle East. The USS Carl Vinson had been operating in the Pacific and been preparing to return to its homeport in San Diego.
Did the DOJ Just Flip on the Second Amendment? 3 replies

Just days after a tidal wave of criticism hit the Department of Justice (DOJ) for doubling down on its claim that firearm suppressors – or silencers – are not protected by the Second Amendment, something strange happened. Pam Bondi, the current Attorney General, may be changing course. According to William Kirk, attorney and host of Washington Gun Law, the turnaround came surprisingly fast. In a matter of hours, the DOJ filed a motion asking for a delay in a high-stakes federal case involving suppressors – United States v. Peterson. The filing, submitted to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, asked for 30 more days to “reconsider” the government’s previous position.

The Internal Revenue Service is preparing to help homeland security officials locate immigrants they are trying to deport, according to three officials familiar with the matter, in a shift toward using protected taxpayer information to help President Trump’s mass deportation push. Under a draft of an agreement between the I.R.S. and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the tax agency would verify whether immigration officials had the right home address for people who have been ordered to leave the United States, according to a copy of the document viewed by The New York Times.

Venezuela agrees to again accept US deportation flights 10 replies

Venezuela announced Saturday it had reached an agreement with Washington to accept additional deportation flights from the United States, one week after more than 200 Venezuelans accused of being gang members were sent to El Salvador. The flights were suspended last month when US President Donald Trump claimed Venezuela had not lived up to its promises, and Caracas subsequently said it would no longer accept the flights. But then Washington deported 238 Venezuelans accused of belonging to the Tren de Aragua gang, which Trump has designated a foreign terrorist organization, to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador, a move deeply criticized by Caracas.

The United States is approaching a turning point in space security, and needs to step up its game before Russia and China close the gap in capabilities, a U.S. Space Force general said. Vice Chief of Space Operations Gen. Michael Guetlein spoke at the "Defense Programs" Conference, warning the Space Force needs to rethink how it defends the country's satellites. Space Force should shift its focus from managing spacecraft in support of defense infrastructure on the ground, to growing its ability to keep pace with the on-orbit weaponry being developed by the country's adversaries. "[M]ake it a warfighting force capable of protecting and defending our capabilities in and through space."

To no one’s surprise, a federal appeals court on Thursday upheld California’s voter-approved ban on gun magazines that hold more than 10 cartridges, saying it saves lives that could be lost in mass shootings. What was unexpected — and perhaps unprecedented — was the video released by one of the dissenting judges. In more than 18 minutes of footage attached to his written opinion, Judge Lawrence VanDyke displayed guns in his chambers, added and removed large-capacity attachments and told viewers that the court’s majority had “a basic misunderstanding of how firearms work.” Dissenters, led by Judge Patrick Bumatay, said the law “deprives Californians of themost popular firearm magazines for self-defense"

The U.S. Navy has entered sustained combat operations in the 5th Fleet Area of Operations after U.S. President Donald Trump promised “overwhelming lethal force” against Iranian-backed forces threatening U.S. forces in the region. The campaign will involve multiple rounds of proactive strikes on various targets, not limited to the retaliatory strikes seen in past strikes on Houthi positions, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized an extended campaign to dismantle the rebel group’s ability to target ships at sea. The effort to dismantle Houthi anti-ship systems could include the direct targeting of Iranian assets like the intelligence gathering ship MV Behshad

Houston police are being instructed to call federal immigration authorities if they come across an individual who has deportation orders listed in the national crime database. The new guidance to law enforcement in Texas’ largest city comes after the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials added 700,000 individuals with deportation orders to the National Crime Information Center database, which is used widely by local law enforcement across the country to track warrants, missing persons, stolen property and other criminal records. There are more than 1.4 million people with active deportation orders across the country. ICE’s inclusion of deportation orders broadens the ability for local law enforcement to identify undocumented immigrants.

The State of California must borrow $3.44 billion dollars to cover a shortfall in Medi-Cal, the state’s Medcaid program — a year after expanding it to offer free health care to illegal aliens. As Breitbart News reported at the time: “Beginning January 1, 2024, illegal aliens residing in California will become eligible for taxpayer-funded health insurance — the first state in the nation to enact such a policy.” Governor Gavin Newsom had boasted of the budget agreement that made such a dramatic offer possible: “With these new investments [sic], California will become the first state to achieve universal access to health care coverage,

Sparks flew during a closely-watched federal appeals court hearing Monday afternoon — with a Barack Obama-appointed judge tearing into the Trump administration’s plans to mass-deport alleged members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. Judge Patricia Millett, a member of the bench since 2013, dominated much of the questioning — grilling a Justice Department lawyer over due process concerns for the 260 purported illegal migrants shipped to a notorious El Salvador prison earlier this month under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. “There were planeloads of people. There were no procedures in place to notify people,” Millett exclaimed at one point. “Nazis got better treatment under the Alien Enemies Act

Tren de Aragua migrants must be allowed to appeal their deportations ordered under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act, Judge James Boasberg ruled Monday. The ruling is likely to be appealed — in part, because President Donald Trump’s deputies say the judiciary has no role when the President invokes the 1798 act to deport aliens amid an invasion or a “predatory incursion” of the United States. “This is unconstitutional,” responded Stephen Miller, the President’s deputy chief of staff. The judge’s decision did not challenge the 1798 law itself but argued that migrants can claim they are not covered

New York— During the first Trump administration, the biggest concern for many journalists was labels. Would they, or their news outlet, be called “fake news” or an “enemy of the people” by a president and his supporters? They now face a more assertive President Donald Trump. In two months, a blitz of action by the nation’s new administration — Trump, chapter two — has journalists on their heels. Lawsuits. A newly aggressive Federal Communications Commission. An effort to control the press corps that covers the president, prompting legal action by The Associated Press. A gutted Voice of America. Public data stripped from websites. It's getting to the point that whenever we read or hear of another racist incident, such as a noose, racist graffiti, or threatening note, we sit back and wait for it to be revealed as a hoax. Case in point: In Allentown, Pennsylvania, a city employee, LaTarsha Brown, claimed to have found a noose on her desk. Now she's in trouble because she allegedly put it there and made a false report. Allentown officials announced charges Monday against a city employee, alleging that she made a false police report and tampered with evidence after reporting she found a noose on her desk in January.
