The actor who inspired Homer Simpson's 'D'oh!'

James Finlayson failed to make it as a leading man in Hollywood but became one of the most memorable comic foils ever to grace the silver screen. The Scottish actor performed in more than 100 films but was best known for being the "third man" to Laurel and Hardy. With his distinctive fake moustache, he starred with the iconic duo in 33 of their films and later became the inspiration for Homer Simpson's "D'oh!" catchphrase. Now Finlayson has been memorialised with a new portrait in the Scottish theatre where he first trod the boards more than a century ago.

Thanks for posting! It's a genuine pleasure to read a warm, delightful story in the midst of present-day turmoil. I watch BBC Scotland, 'Still Game' and 'Katie Morag' etc. Hopefully they'll make a documentary on one of their own lads.

You're kidding. I thought it was The Skipper from Gilligan's Island. Skipper: Gilligan's hand me that beam! Gilligan hits Skipper in the belly with the beam. Skipper: Doh!

I've always known this, big Jimmy Finlayson fan here. Not only did he stake his claim on "D'oh", it was usually followed up by his take on exasperation -- the Jimmy Finlayson stink eye, the stink eye to end all stink eyes.

Don't forget his double-takes as well. One of the best comedic foils ever.

The organization will continue to abide by the anti-discrimination laws in the state (snip) Because of these state laws, students in Minnesota can participate in sports consistent with their gender identity, despite Trump's new Executive Order.

Frigid air that normally stays trapped in the Arctic has escaped, plunging deep into the United States for an extended visit that is expected to provoke teeth-chattering but not be record-shattering. It’s a cold air outbreak that some experts say is happening more frequently, and paradoxically, because of a warming world.(snip) “There’s a climate change signal in that,” Francis said. The Arctic is warming four times faster than the rest of the world, which means the difference between temperatures up north and down south are shrinking, Francis said. Arctic sea ice is shrinking,

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to name Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida as his nominee for secretary of state, though the pick is not a done deal, two sources familiar with the talks tell CBS News. The expected nomination represents a long road from the time Trump and the Florida senator were rivals in the 2016 Republican primaries. [snip] The two have since repaired the relationship, and Rubio campaigned with the former president this year. The New York Times first reported that Trump appears to be settled on Rubio for the post. A spokesperson for Rubio did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A group of Somali leaders in Minnesota on Saturday endorsed GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump for president during a press conference. The press conference lasted for almost an hour during which more than 10 leaders spoke on why they supported the 45th president for another term. Among the issues discussed were public safety, educational opportunities and the economy. “Our conditions are horrible. We can’t afford anything as working class and middle class people," Somali leader Mohamed Ahmed said during the press conference. "Now please understand this, we love our brothers and sisters who are Democrats, but you left us.”

The livelihood of a U.S. Navy veteran who puts on bubble shows for families across San Diego as “The Bubble Pirate” is up in the air after he was cited last week for liquid littering during one of his performances. Sandy Snakenberg, 63, has been creating bubble art — or “bubbleology” as he calls it, referring to both the science and spectacle of it — for over a decade, a trade he picked up while he was living in Singapore. “I was just enjoying blowing the simple bubbles that you blow and people walking by were enjoying them,” he said. “I got kind of hooked sharing the joy of it.”

Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al-Hawsawi have been held at the US Navy base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for years without going to trial. According to US news outlets, the men will plead guilty in exchange for the prosecution agreeing not to seek the death penalty. They were only 10 words but wow, did they spark a reaction. I watched the viral clip of Barack Obama taking a frozen Joe Biden by the arm and leading him off stage at their star-studded $30 million LA fundraiser, and posted on X what I suspect everyone who watched it was thinking: “So embarrassing. The Democrats can’t let this go on, surely?” Within a few hours, a staggering 7.5 million people had viewed my post and many thousands of those had liked, reposted or commented on it. As I thought, the vast majority shared my honestly held opinion that President Biden is no longer fit for the highest office in America.

Republican Florida Sens. Titled Consolidating Aerospace Programs Efficiently at Canaveral (CAPE Canaveral) Act, the legislation would relocate the NASA headquarters to Florida’s Space Coast in Brevard County. The region houses the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Scott’s office called Florida “a common sense choice” for the new headquarters. “There’s no better place for NASA’s headquarters than Florida’s Space Coast, where our nation’s brightest minds innovate and help America reach for the stars,” Scott said in a statement.

The Internal Revenue Service ordered most of its approximately 20,000 customer service employees back to the office this week, ending a long era of hybrid and remote work. And so, many customer service workers learned Sunday that they would not have to return to the office on Monday, after all. The Return to Office (RTO) mandate has been postponed until further notice, union leaders said Wednesday. In the end, the IRS and its employee union evidently agreed that the back-to-office order might lead to long

US President Donald Trump has threatened a 200% tariff on any alcohol coming to the US from the European Union (EU) in the latest twist of an escalating trade war. The threat is a response to the EU's plans for a 50% tax on imports of US-produced whiskey as part of its retaliation to Trump's tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports to the US. The US president called for the immediate removal of the EU's "nasty" tariff on US whiskey, calling the bloc "hostile and abusive" and "formed for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the United States".

Democrats are so soft. They're been throwing fits for the past ten years over President Donald Trump, and they've ramped up the mania since he got back into office. But it looks like some of them just can't take it anymore. MSNBC made Rachel Maddow commit to being on five days a week for the first 100 days of Trump's term, when she had perviously had only been doing once a week. But host Lawrence O'Donnell said to her that he hadn't made the same commitment, and he was "exhausted" already. "I know you've pledged to cover and be here for the first hundred days of the Trump presidency," he said.
