The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has uncovered and cancelled a $56,000 contract it was paying to a “plant contractor” to water eight decorative potted plants — with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) promising to water them “free of charge” from now on.
“The VA cancelled a $56,000 contract to water ~8 plants for 5 years. This is ~$1400/plant/year,” DOGE, led by Elon Musk, said in a Thursday night X post:
“The contract has been canceled and DOGE will water the plants free of charge,” the department added, along with photos of a pair of the VA’s potted plants next to a sign reading “Please do not water these plants.

So, about $116 to water a plant for a month. I'm betting that if you found a secretary who worked on the same floor and offered $25 a month to water one plant, which probably is about $6-8 per watering, and probably would take 2 minutes, they'd jump at the chance. No money if the plant isn't healthy.

While U.S. Veterans are sometimes forced to "dumpster dive" for food let alone a 6 month wait for a medical appointment, a $56,000 "contract" is in place to water plants for 5 years.
Name and a current location of the spineless bureaucrat that signed the "contract".

One can purchase very realistic faux plants for a few hundred dollars. What is wrong with these people? $1400 dollars to water a plant for a year??

A better question. Who is the contractor related to or associated with??

I believe, if I had a year's training, I could have done the job of watering those plants. Of course, DOGE would fire me, but I could get on TV and complain about losing my important job and expect some sympathy.

Was the "plant contractor" related to Pelosi or Schumer?

I am no longer shocked by the things that DOGE has brought to light; I think that most Americans acknowledged that the federal government was wasteful. But most, like me, knew it was this bad. Drastic action to fix it is more than well-justified.

To reply#1: Better yet, just have someone in the particular office do it. That's what any sane office manager would do.

We’re paying for the care and feeding of a lot of potted plants in the federal government and most of them are human. Dig into the contract. Someone’s spouse or kid got this job.

Now those 8 plants will form a collective bargaining agreement and an NGO. They will then begin lobbying Congress for grants, specifically for, "Potted Plant Advocacy, and for, "Green Lives Matter."
