The Social Security Administration (SSA) said in a release that it has identified more than $800 million in savings or “cost avoidance” for fiscal 2025 among information technology, grants, property and payroll.
The SSA stated that it froze hiring and “drastically” cut back on overtime, saving about $550 million.
The government agency that administers the Social Security program said it cut back $150 million from the information technology systems (ITS) budget by canceling “non-essential contracts and identifying reductions in other ITS contracts.”
Acting SSA Commissioner Lee Dudek said Monday evening the agency has “operated on autopilot” for far too long.

It's funny how they could not find these savings until Trump took office.

Maybe there will be enough money to give those of us on social security a real cost of living increase.

Do democrats do any oversight when in office? Ever? I believe all they want is to be in control of the treasury. The money!

Why does any government entity have 'non-essential' on its books, whether it's a program or personnel? It defies common sense.

Good. Now purge the waste, find those who benefitted illegally from the waste, and imprison them. Meanwhile SSA, your job isn't over yet. Remain watchful for any more fraud and waste.

Cutting SSA expenses will not cause the collapse of the system, it will save it. There are billions more to be saved. This is just a superficial first pass without any in depth look for cost reductions.

Yeah, my 226-year-old great, great, great, great grandmother is really frosted at this. She asked me to cash her check this month.
(Sarcasm key off. She's really 230 years old but lies about her age.)

Good that they found this but......
Old age benefits alone are $1,150,000 million (or $1.15 trillion) per year. So, saving $800 million is a literal drop in a bucket.
Find 14 times this much and you get to 1%. This is 0.07% of the old age survivor outflow, and there are HUGE amounts also spent on disability payments (a giant place where fraud probably makes up 50% or more of the recipients) and Medicaid. I personally knew multiple people, all rural and small town blacks who worked and also got disability. All their work was cash, and from personal observation, they were in no way 'disabled' yet got the fraud started and kept it going for life. Medicare disability is just another giant welfare machine.

My FB feed is full of Dems crowing about Elon calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme while on with Joe Rogan. A search of this website provided no new information or clarification. I trust Elon but am wondering what the full story is.

This doesn't address the frauds, this is just the 'fat' in the offices.
A local SS office is in a very nice area and still has a security guard.. all he does is sit there and tell you to turn your cell phone off. What a waste.

I live in the red state of Louisiana, in a very red Parish (County) and the SS office and the VA clinic both have armed guards in attendance, almost like Wal•Mart greeters. They both also have the obligatory no weapons sign.

As it was reported decades ago, the Social Security Administration can say how many checks they print per month, but not whether they got to the proper recipient, or if the intended recipient is even still alive.
The worst SSA fraud will be the millions of illegal invaders and "chain migration" relatives who are improperly receiving Federal benefits. Over the last 10 to 15 years, whenever I see any of my Doctors, invariably there's a younger "Indian" escorting one of their elder parents into the office for care. I've long surmised that none of them are so wealthy that they can pay "cash" for their medical treatment, but, leave if to leftists in government to "give away" benefits that all natural born citizens had to "earn" from the day we got our first "real job," onward. That type of THEFT must STOP!

Oh baby...oh baby ...someone's gonna be missing a SS check because they aren't the original citizen....will refusing them the checks be enough punishment...I think not...but...I'll bet the Dems will take this to court in a liberal judge's court and fight President Trump...trying to delay him as much as they can....WE saw last night what the democrats are made of....__________ fill in the blanks...I've run out of words to describe them....

Who needs DOGE twenty-year olds when first graders could clean up the sloppy SS recpient list. For what purpose would we keep 120 - 250 y.o by the millions registered? Make your grift less obvious or at least clean up the data errors. How can one recipient be 100 years older than the founding of this country?

And this is just Trump's first 30 days.
We may never know what a full-blown, soup-to-nuts audit of every Federal program would uncover.
