Washington—President Trump was the boisterous showman in chief before a joint session of Congress Tuesday night — boldly declaring “America is back” and its “greatest era” was underway as he brushed past petulant Democratic protests to lay out both the accomplishments and the agenda of his second term. Trump, 78, described his avalanche of executive orders and new initiatives as a “common sense revolution” during the 99-minute address — the longest in modern history — echoing the theme of his second inaugural address as the opposition largely sat on their hands and seethed before drifting quietly into the DC night. “Six weeks ago, I stood beneath the dome of this Capitol

Trump then asked, “You want to keep it going for another five years?” and Elizabeth Warren continued clapping. “Yeah, you would say— Pocahontas says, Yes,” Trump replied.

Call this the Dollar Tree Policy. Or the Robocop Policy, if you're more cinematically minded: Donald Trump promised to actually cut spending in Washington, and the DOGE effort already shows how seriously he took that pledge. However, DOGE didn't just have USAID or grant programs on their radar screen. They also took aim at bureaucrats with government-issued credit cards, with the aim of bringing their discretionary spending to an abrupt halt. The Wall Street Journal reported on the new one-dollar limit that many may have discovered the hard way:

You might not need to watch the Democratic Party’s response to President Donald Trump’s address to Congress tonight. First, only news junkies and psychopaths do this sort of thing. Second, the choice to deliver the response is laughably obvious: Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI). Democrats are desperate to win over rural working-class voters but also not willing to do the work on voter outreach. Third, Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA) already delivered the address at one of these unhinged Capitol Hill get-togethers.

Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) delivers the Democrat response to President Donald Trump’s address to Congress on Tuesday, March 4. President Trump addressed multiple common sense issues that he has tackled in his return to the White House by executive order that Democrats have opposed. Trump has called for a “Golden Age of America” in his return to office, a seemingly self-defeating position for Democrats to oppose.

“Official” is a very English word. It has its roots in the Old French “oficial” and the Latin “officialis,” and now — thanks to a new Trump executive order — describes the status of the English language. President Trump’s executive action making English our official language repeals a Bill Clinton executive order that required the government, as well as groups receiving federal funds, to provide language assistance to non-English speakers. (Photo) Trump’s move will have little practical effect, since the increase in bilingualism in the United States has been driven by high levels of immigration from Spanish-speaking countries rather than direct government action.

In which Donald Trump channels Ronald Reagan, circa 1969. Remember this? (You might actually remember it if you're 75 or so ...) At the time, it proved Reagan's mettle as a leader and easily won him a second term from an electorate (in California!) that had grown fed up with on-campus chaos and riots. The moment was so significant in Reagan's political career that it became a featured moment in the recent biopic Reagan, starring Dennis Quaid. Reagan made clear to both protesters and the Academia progressives coddling them that he wouldn't put up with either group.

CNN allowed former television show host Bill Nye to claim that Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk wanted to replace the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) weather satellites with Starlink Monday. Roughly 880 staffers at NOAA, including many who were on probationary status, were laid off Thursday, CBS News reported, with some of the laid-off employees holding a protest outside the agency’s headquarters. Nye claimed Musk found a “vulnerable part” in the federal government to seize public assets for himself, but never offered evidence.

Conservatives have been positively giddy with the whirlwind of activity out of the White House over the past five weeks. But if President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress don’t start focusing on the economy, the excitement will be short-lived. Not only are there worrisome signs of an economic slowdown, but the public is growing increasingly frustrated with what they see as a lack of attention to pocketbook issues on Trump’s part. Republican lawmakers are making matters worse by dawdling on extending Trump’s tax cuts, which is causing businesses to hold off on big investments. This is a lethal combination.

President Trump threatened Tuesday to halt all federal funds for any educational institute that allows “illegal protests” — and vowed that agitators will be unmasked and imprisoned. The commander-in-chief issued the warning as disruptive anti-Israel and pro-Hamas demonstrations have rocked college campuses across the country. “All Federal Funding will STOP for any College, School, or University that allows illegal protests,” Trump, 78, wrote in an early Truth Social post.

Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-NY) was heavily criticized after her comments during a speech outside the Housing and Urban Development Department on Monday, indicating Elon Musk should "go back to South Africa." The remarks were ill-advised on two fronts: 1) She was trying to counter a debunked claim that Musk himself had said Italians should stay in Italy and Japanese people should stay in Japan, and 2) Telling successful immigrants to go back home sure seems xenophobic. "It was interesting yesterday I was watching a video of an interview of Elon Musk with someone where he said that the Italians should stay in Italy and the Chinese should stay in China,

The very simple — and unexpected coming from CNBC, which usually runs cover for pharmaceutical corporations as a matter of course — question posed to Albert Bourla: Vaccine makers like yourself [are] largely shielded from liability. If the products are safe and effective, what is the need to continue to shield, to have these liability shields, and what happens if those shields are changed or go away completely? The very simple answer, assuming the vaccines are actually “safe and effective,” would be: “Nothing happens if we lose our liability shield. We don’t need it because our product is safe and effective, and we are willing to prove that in court

Expressing frustration over the intransigence of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who demands to maintain the killing fields in Europe, President Trump says, “America will not put up with it much longer.” The remarks by Zelenskyy follow a meeting in London with various EU leaders who are assembling a ‘coalition of the willing’ to support Ukraine with enlarged military operations. Zelenskyy tells the AP: ““We are talking about the first steps today, and therefore, until they are on paper, I would not like to talk about them in great detail.” “An agreement to end the war is still very, very far away, and no one has started

Former NBC "Meet the Press" anchor Chuck Todd delivered a brutal opinion about former President Biden, calling him a "craven political animal" who was more concerned about his political career than his own family. During an appearance Sunday on Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt's "The Warning" podcast, Todd delved into why the Democrats lost the 2024 election and what he perceives as the media's relationship with the second Trump administration. After decrying older politicians remaining in the leadership of the Democratic Party, Todd returned to Biden's role in the November election loss.

There [are] going to be specific issues discussed of what is California going to be doing differently to prevent this from happening again.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) isn't necessarily known for his intellect or his manners. Not only was he hornswoggled by a putative Chinese spy (Fang Fang) a decade ago (and subsequently denied a spot on the House Intelligence Committee), but there was the unfortunate incident involving an apparent flatulence mishap while giving an on-camera interview. Then, just a week ago, Swalwell reportedly was overheard blabbing loudly at a D.C. steakhouse over dinner with lobbyists about cheating on his wife, Capitol Hill orgies, and wanting to subpoena Ivanka Trump to testify (while he still held his spot on the Intel Committee) because she was "[censored] hot."
