Washington— President Trump revealed Friday that he’s considering merging the US Postal Service with the Commerce Department. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that his administration is looking at a “merger” of the two government institutions to increase efficiency. “We want to have a post office that works well and doesn’t lose massive amounts of money, and we’re thinking about doing that, and will be a form of a merger, but it’ll remain the Postal Service, and I think it’ll operate a lot better than it has been over the years,” Trump said. He had floated the consideration back in December after learning that the USPS lost $9.5 billion

This is a great idea. The last postal leader wasted billions on new EV postal vehicles that will not work. Now we will have to replace them with ICE's.

The USPS has become a pension-servicing facility that incidentally delivers mail to all addresses. It might help to distribute the entire pension responsibility to the general fisc. The inefficiencies will persist.

Sure would be nice if they could de-unionize the USPS and find a more neutral service to honestly and honorably handle anything to do with voting and ballots.

Let's remember that postal service's mission is to serve the needs of the people. Profitability wouldn't be a bad thing. But its purpose is to provide a service, not necessarily to be a profit center.

The USPS is an ecological disaster. About 99% of what I receive is advertisements which go straight into the recycle bin, which goes straight into the landfill by way of a separate (but equal) garbage truck. Meanwhile, I see trucks on a daily basis from Amazon, UPS, FedEx, and sometimes DHL. Let's pay one of those to deliver the "mail"

If the US Constitution requires "Post Offices" and "roads" I suggest two Post Offices in the same location each with a short road leading up to it. Their job would be to deliver one letter to each other on a weekly / monthly / annual basis. The US Constitution being satisfied, turn everything else over to Amazon, UPS, FedEx and anyone else who can beat their price with comparable service. The US Postal Master / General / whatever can weigh in on which other company / entity should handle which amount and types of delivery service with a veto from the US President or his / hers designated representative being able to override the Us Postal Master / General. Problem solved!

It is time to redefine mail delivery. Charge high rates for junk mail. That will reduce the amount mailed. Based upon location, deliver mail less than six days a week. Every other day would work for most folks. Let all packages be delivered by competition (FedEx UPS, other), and also have them do rush deliveries. New subdivisions could have mailboxes in a central location, and you pick up your mail on the way home.

Speaking at a Black History event Thursday in the White House, President Donald Trump praised the memory of Prince Estabrook, a slave and Massachusetts Minuteman who was wounded at the 1775 Battle of Lexington. Trump noted that the African American patriot was “one of the first in the nation to spill blood in that very, very tough time,” and went on to announce that his statue will be erected in the coming National Garden of American Heroes — a project the president put forth in his first term, and has revived. The new “statue park,” Trump explained, will “honor hundreds of our greatest Americans to ever live, including countless black American icons.”
