A 911 call led Coral Gables police to intercept two vans transporting 26 migrants Tuesday morning in what authorities believe is the second human smuggling operation within city limits in less than two weeks. Two alleged smugglers, along with 26 Chinese migrants – nine women and 17 men – were taken into custody. "We believe they came by boat, they came through a secluded area in the southern end of Coral Gables," Coral Gables Police Chief Edward James Hudak Jr said. "They're coming up through a canal area that leads to a private marina."

House Republicans are one step closer to a full majority with the Florida primary wins of Jimmy Patronis and Randy Fine to fill the seats of former Reps. Matt Gaetz and Mike Waltz.
Both men were backed by President Donald Trump. The Associated Press called the primary for Fine, a state senator, receiving over 80% of the vote. "G-d saved [Donald Trump’s] life so he could save the world. And tonight, both of them, powered by my amazing family and all of you who voted for me, put me one step closer to being able to help him do that. I swear I won’t let any of you down,”

Republican Congressman Andy Biggs has officially entered the 2026 Arizona governor’s race. Biggs, who signaled his interest in running for governor last week, made the announcement at the Republican Party of Arizona’s annual meeting on Saturday. “We should be the reddest state in the country,” Biggs said. “We should control our border; we should get better education; we should get water infrastructure in place.
Biggs added, “We could be — Arizona could be the Florida of the West.” Biggs, who has served in Congress since 2017 after spending over a decade at the Arizona Legislature, is a past chairman of the far-right House Freedom Caucus.

A homeless vagrant who was cut loose after allegedly groping a woman on a Big Apple subway train this month is now charged with throwing a female straphanger into an incoming Manhattan train, police said.
Markeese Brazelis, 26, who already has sex abuse and trespassing cases hanging over his head, is accused of pushing a 23-year-old woman into a moving A train in a random Monday morning attack. The victim struck the train and fell back onto the platform, causing bruises to her face, hands, knees and shoulder. The shocking attack played out at the 175th Street station shortly after 9 a.m. when Brazelis allegedly pushed the unsuspecting victim

State Sen. Colton Moore will now be allowed to attend future joint sessions of the Legislature after the north Georgia lawmaker was arrested Thursday for trying to do just that. House Speaker Jon Burns, a Newington Republican, banned Moore from entering the House chamber last year after Moore spoke ill of the late former GOP Speaker David Ralston while Ralston was being honored posthumously during a Senate session.

The U.S. Senate Friday voted to advance a bill that would require the expansion of mass detention for immigrants charged or arrested for property crimes, setting it up to be one of the first measures signed into law by incoming President-elect Donald Trump. In a 61-35 procedural vote, 10 Senate Democrats joined with all Republicans to limit debate on S. 5, known as the Laken Riley Act, named after a 22-year-old nursing student who was murdered by a man who immigration authorities say entered the country illegally and was previously charged with shoplifting.

The US Treasury Department will start taking "extraordinary measures" next week to avoid risking a default on government debt, Secretary Janet Yellen said Friday, days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
With the government reaching its borrowing limit, the department would start making the moves on Tuesday, the day after the inauguration, Yellen said in a letter to congressional leaders. That will mean Trump's administration has to grapple immediately with the issue of the debt ceiling. In the past, Congress has routinely voted to lift this bar, but that tool has become a contentious issue, with Republican budget hawks calling for drastic spending reductions instead.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass got into office promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and promising to tackle homelessness and pollution — but she never promised to drain the swamp. Now she stands accused of adding to it, through “legalized corruption” and a number of eye opening scandals which have come to light after renewed scrutiny in the last two weeks following the revelation Bass and her cronies defunded the Los Angeles Fire Department by $17 million, contributing to them being underprepared to tackle the wildfires currently destroying the city.

Canada’s energy minister came to Washington this week to warn U.S. lawmakers about President-elect Donald Trump’s tariffs threat on Canada: They’d inflict economic pain on Americans, with higher prices and job losses. Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s minister of energy and natural resources, said he feels obligated to sound the alarm about the inflationary risks being created by a president who was elected in large part on the promise of bringing down prices. “It will mean higher gas prices, it will mean higher food prices, it will mean higher natural gas prices for heating people’s homes. It will mean higher electricity prices."

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that Israel must withdraw its forces from Syria or it will cause “unfavorable outcomes for everyone.”
“The aggressive actions of the forces attacking Syrian territory, Israel, in particular, must come to an end as soon as possible,” he said during a meeting of his party in Ankara.
“Everyone should take their hands off Syria and we, along with our Syrian brothers, will crush the heads of Islamic State, the YPG and other terrorist organizations in a short time.”

Starbucks (SBUX, Financial), the global coffee giant, has revoked a key policy that allowed anyone, including non-purchasers, to use its café spaces, patios, and restrooms. This policy had been in place since 2018. The company announced a new code of conduct aimed at making U.S. stores more appealing and regaining high-end customers. According to a Starbucks spokesperson, the new rules will prioritize paying customers who wish to enjoy their coffee and use the facilities. The updated code, effective January 27, includes prohibitions against begging and disorderly conduct. If necessary, staff can seek assistance from local law enforcement.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has made a deal with fellow far-left Democrats in the state legislature to set aside $50 million in taxpayer funds to fight the Trump administration and to shield illegal migrants from deportations — as the Los Angeles fires death toll reaches 24.
Newsom convened a special session immediately after President-elect Donald Trump handily beat Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election, saying another Trump presidency would require the legislature to “provide additional funding to the California Department of Justice (CADOJ) and other agencies” to prepare for legal battles.
Comments:
Biggs is the only declared candidate. Katie Hobbs barely cheated her way into office last time and the woman she beat, Karin Taylor Robsin, has not committed to challenging Dobbs again; even after PDJT threw her an offer of support.
