The Israeli security cabinet has officially approved the long-awaited cease-fire deal with Hamas, putting a pause to the fighting in Gaza and allowing for the release of dozens of hostages held captive by the terrorist group for 15 months. The 11 voting members of the security cabinet approved the deal with a simple majority vote, the Prime Minister’s Office said. The full, 33-member Israeli cabinet will meet to approve the agreement at 3:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m. ET). Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet and the Israeli government accepted the peace agreement after negotiators for the Jewish state and Hamas signed off on the deal.

I'll be surprised if there are "dozens" (24 or more) of hostages still alive to be released. Have the Red Cross, Red Cresent (suspect), or UN verified the number of hostages that are alive? The cease-fire will soon be broken by Hamas. What Einstein said about insanity.

And how many jailed Muslims sitting in Israeli jails were released for each hostage? Betting the ratio was at least 100-1. Btw, does anyone know how overcrowded Israeli prisons are? I imagine Israel arrests tens of thousands of terrorists. As some point, they would have to remove some to make room for new terrorists. Israel needs a death penalty if they don't already have one. The deal isn't worth much, but at least some hostages were released. Bet it wasn't all of them. Wonder if the released hostages were even housed in Gaza. Hundred percent certainty Hamas will conduct smaller acts of terrorism and Israel will retaliate regardless of the cease fire. It will take another large-scale attack to totally scrap the deal. And the 'game' continues. Looks like Hamas will survive. Thought Israel would have successfully cleared Gaza. Who knows for certain though. This all come through the media filter. We only see what they want us to see.

The ceasefire is to last six weeks. What if Hamas actions during that time warrant resumption of hostilities or suspension of withdrawals. Will Israel have the political backing to do so? Under Biden the answer was assuredly no. It would have been like putting paste back in a tube. Would be interesting to find out what assurances Trump gave Bibi to get his assent in a single meeting.

The deal is releasing all Hamas hostages, 600 trucks a day in aid, Hamas remaining in power, and nothing changes. Trump should give Biden and Blinken full credit for this deal, and should have nothing to do with it.

Hamas did not take care of the hostages. If they are still alive, they are more than likely in very poor health. Do not trust them Netanyahu. At your peril. If Hamas is not entirely destroyed another 10/7 will be writ upon Israel. Make absolutely sure that Hamas is no more.

They apparently are not going to get all the hostages released. If this is true, this is a very bad deal.

The hostages will be freed (or, more than likely, most will just be bodies that will be recovered). Then Hamas will do another terrorist act -- since they are terrorists and can't help themselves. Israel will then go back to exterminating them, with no extra caution needed to avoid killing hostages. And the boots on the ground will get a much-needed break. And, most importantly, President Trump comes off looking like the great world leader that he is. Not a perfect deal, but, all in all, definitely not a bad one.

"long awaited" - by whom? Both sides anticipated it. Only Hamas wanted it, though. Israel is fed up with the repeated cycle of terrorism, remaining patient through repeated attacks, getting fed up and counter attacking, having counterattack stopped short of complete victory, allowing recovery, reorganization, and rearming for the next cycle to begin. Again, stopped short of total victory, we now wait for the next Palestinian Jihadi terror attack against Israel.

Yet another one sided deal. Either Israel is hopelessly inept at this kind of thing or they know that Hamas will break the ceasefire. Probably the latter, I hope.

That’s what our purportedly most astute and seasoned political commentators would have you believe about the ceasefire agreement that was reached just a day or so ago between Hamas and Israel. These pearl-clutching, handwringing, anxiety filled savants have now become 2025’s Doomsday Squad. But it sounds to me like they all participated in the same Zoom session, so similar are their dire messages and predictions. And so wrong-headed! The esteemed Harvard Law professor emeritus, Alan Dershowitz, opined that “it wasn’t a deal; it was a crime.” “This was not the result of a negotiation between equals. We start this discussion with a note of thanks to the ridiculous democrats and republicans for using the questioning session for AG nominee Pam Bondi, to out themselves on the issue of FISA-702, the unconstitutional surveillance of American citizens. While many will not see it, the timing here is not coincidental. At the behest of President Donald Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson has removed House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) Chairman Mike Turner from his position. Mike Turner is no longer Chairman of HPSCI. This is a big loss for the Deep State. Remember also, that President Trump had previously announced an intelligence advisory board headed by Devin Nunes

The cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas is meant to be a first step, and we don’t know what happens next, or the promises that were made behind the scenes. It is possible that President-elect Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed on this move merely as a tactical prelude to a set of far-reaching measures that will yet transform the Middle East. And, most importantly, the idea of dozens of Israelis — including toddlers — returning home after more than a year in purgatory is enough to dull even the most hawkish observer’s concerns.

Independence Day, observed annually on July 4, is a national holiday that honors the ratification of the Declaration of Independence. This pivotal document marked the founding of the United States of America and its liberation from British tyranny and oppression. In the mid-1990s, a song with the same title was awarded Country Music Song of the Year. Performed by Martina McBride, it celebrates a woman’s liberation from her abusive husband. What are the commonalities? Oppression and abuse. Is anyone else sensing a strong stench of these in America, what used to be a shining city on a hill?

Every president is actively encouraged to plan and construct an official repository of his documents from his time in office. Pete Hegseth, President-elect Trump’s choice for Defense secretary, on Tuesday emerged largely unscathed from an at times blistering confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee. Democratic lawmakers on the panel took aim at Hegseth’s lack of experience leading an agency as large and complex as the Pentagon, claims related to his treatment of women and excessive drinking, and his past comments on the role of women in the military. Multiple Democrats also expressed concerns that an FBI background check on Hegseth, an Army veteran, left out crucial details about major allegations levied against him. The report was viewed by the panel’s top two members on Friday.

Envy is an ugly thing -- one of the seven deadly sins. One reason for this success: The United States innovates while Europe regulates. Instead of fixing their economies, the European Union bureaucrats want to kneecap America's tech success stories with lawsuits and regulatory barbed wire fences to keep American firms from competing on a level playing field. Europeans have long been dripping with jealousy that American firms dominate the tech sector -- cellphones, search engines, social media platforms, artificial intelligence and robotics. Our "magnificent seven" tech companies -- including Google, Nvidia, Apple and Amazon -- saw massive stocks market gains in 2024. Meanwhile, Europe has flatlined.

The US Treasury Department will start taking "extraordinary measures" next week to avoid risking a default on government debt, Secretary Janet Yellen said Friday, days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. With the government reaching its borrowing limit, the department would start making the moves on Tuesday, the day after the inauguration, Yellen said in a letter to congressional leaders. That will mean Trump's administration has to grapple immediately with the issue of the debt ceiling. In the past, Congress has routinely voted to lift this bar, but that tool has become a contentious issue, with Republican budget hawks calling for drastic spending reductions instead.
