House lawmakers passed legislation Tuesday afternoon requiring federal agents to detain illegal immigrants suspected of committing non-violent crimes, the chamber’s first action of the 119th Congress.
The House voted 264-159 to pass the Laken Riley Act, with 48 Democrats joining 216 Republicans in voting for the legislation, which is named after the Georgia nursing student brutally murdered last year by an illegal immigrant.
“I’m thankful that the House passed the Laken Riley Act in an overwhelmingly bipartisan manner. No family should have to go through what Laken’s has endured,” said Representative Mike Collins (R., Ga.), who first introduced the legislation last year and represents the area where Riley was murdered.

President Trump on Tuesday held a fiery press conference at his Florida residence Mar-a-Lago.
In his first presser after being certified the winner of the 2024 election, Trump announced he was changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico, issued an ultimatum to Hamas, and announced $20 billion to build data centers across the country.
Reporters asked Trump questions after his presser.
One reporter asked Trump about his military strategy regarding Iran.
“The US launching a preemptive strike on Iran. You said you don’t want to answer that,” a reporter asked Trump.
“I don’t talk about it. It’s military strategy,” Trump said.

On Joe Biden’s first day in office, he signed a raft of executive orders, one of which we said was “almost entirely overlooked but could easily end up having the biggest impact.”
Turns out we were right.
The executive order – “Modernizing Regulatory Review” – would, we predicted, “unleash the regulatory state with a ferocity never before seen in this country.”
With this one executive order, Biden shows that he’s intent on giving regulators carte blanche to impose massive new rules on businesses and households, on virtually anything and everything they do, regardless of costs. There’s little else Biden has done so far that will have as wide-ranging an impact.

Let me be blunt: Merrick Garland is a foul carbuncle on the derriere of the worst of American politics. He has viewed his position as Attorney General of the United States as the vehicle for being the Democrat party’s enforcer. With the power of the DOJ and FBI at his back, he has worked hard to destroy anyone who threatens Democrat party power.
Nowhere has Garland’s un-American mission been more obvious than with his approach to the events of January 6. For those who need a brief refresher course, January 6 came after a year of violent,

Pope Francis on Jan. 6, 2025 named Cardinal Robert W. McElroy, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of San Diego, as the new archbishop of Washington. As the archbishop of Washington, Cardinal McElroy succeeds Cardinal Wilton Gregory, who has served in that role since 2019. On Jan. 6, Pope Francis also accepted the resignation of Cardinal Gregory as the archbishop of Washington. Joe Biden will be remembered as one of the worst presidents in American history, according to the latest Gallup poll.
While Biden and the White House seek to rewrite his legacy as someone who improved the lives of Americans and people worldwide, the American public clearly feels differently.
A majority of Americans—54 percent—believe Joe Biden will be remembered as a “below average” (37 percent) or “poor” (17 percent) president.
In contrast, only 19 percent think he will be seen as “outstanding” (6 percent) or “above average” (13 percent).
Meanwhile, 26 percent say he will be regarded as “average.”

Joe Biden, especially since becoming president, has benefited from corporate media portraying him as a unifier, civil, and even a “decent” man. He is not. In fact, when the going gets mildly tough, Biden flies off the handle.
That’s exactly what he did during a question-and-answer session at the White House on Sunday night. My being the oldest president, I know more world leaders than any one of you ever met in your whole g-dd-mn life!” Biden barked at the press. It’s far from the first time Biden lashed out at Democrat propagandists and cheerleaders that make up the corporate media.

Iran’s nuclear facilities would be “extremely” difficult for Israeli forces to strike, defense sources have told The Post, adding that the Jewish state is willing to take such a bold step if officials deem it necessary — since President-elect Donald Trump has not objected to the possibility.

Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen comprise tentacles of Iran’s “octopus” threat, as Israeli officials describe it.

There are always ways around those onerous taxes, of course. Ask any smuggler. This is, however, something the outgoing Biden administration, in particular the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), doesn't seem to understand. On Tuesday, we learned that the FDA is moving ahead with a rule

Instead, the state comptroller’s office has the green light to just send checks to residents from a pool of money owed to them – including funds from old bank accounts, investments, gift cards and insurance checks that were turned over to the state after they weren’t claimed in enough time.
Empire State residents could find surprichecks of up to $250 in their mailboxes starting this month thanks to a new state law that cuts down on red tape.

How thrilled am I to have President-elect Donald J. Trump going back to the Oval Office? Extremely, and I bet every legitimate political reporter is. Sadly, as we have discovered over four years of Biden-Harris, legitimate political reporters are few and far between. If you are a legitimate political reporter/analyst/commentator, what you want from any politician, but especially your president, is to be given information and insight that you can analyze, comment, and report on without a super-sized serving of stage management, spin, and regurgitated lies.
Trump's Tuesday morning press conference from Mar-a-Lago gave us a bunch of information and much to analyze and comment upon.

Democrat incumbent Sarah Riggs closed the race with 2,770,818 votes to GOP challenger Jefferson Griffin’s 2,770,193 votes.
The race went to a recount since the vote difference is fewer than 10,000 votes.

On Tuesday, a federal judge granted a significant exception to the travel restrictions imposed on a January 6 defendant. William Pope, a Kansas resident and nonviolent J6 participant has been allowed to attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20 in Washington, D.C. The motion, granted by Judge Rudolph Contreras, is a rare departure from standard pre-trial release conditions, which typically prohibit defendants from engaging in certain behaviors. Pope had been under the condition of release preventing him from entering Washington since March 2021.
This decision marks a turning point in the handling of such cases, especially given the Justice Department’s staunch opposition to Pope's motion and similar requests

The destroyer of the Justice Department, Merrick Garland, has assured us, as has Old Joe Biden, as has the destroyer of the FBI, Christopher Wray, as well as the leftist top dogs at the Department of Homeland Security. The only thing they lacked to complete their scenario were actual white supremacist terrorists. But now, Heap Big Squaw Sen. On Sunday, December 22, President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his desire for America to take control of Greenland, saying it is an “absolute necessity.” The very next day, Greenland’s prime minister, Mute Egede, said the autonomous island, part of the Danish kingdom, was not for sale. But Trump’s plan—like that of William H. Seward, who, as secretary of state, oversaw the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867—is not without tremendous geopolitical advantage to America.
It’s all about gaining greater American control over the Arctic, where Russia and China are cooperating to build a strong presence. Fears that such cooperation will extend to include North Korea and Iran are not unfounded.

Johnston said he was blindsided by the op-ed that included a headline claiming, "Denver's Mayor offloads immigrants on Aurora." I'm surprised by this because Mayor Coffman and I have a collaborative

Mark Zuckerberg has announced major changes to Meta’s content moderation policies and practices on Facebook and Instagram, citing a desire to embrace free speech and avoid censorship. Zuckerberg’s changes begin with scrapping Facebook’s third-party “fact check” system which is notorious for its leftist bias.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, is undergoing a major overhaul of its content moderation practices. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday that the company will end its fact-checking program, plagued by severe leftist bias, and replace it with a community-driven system similar to X’s Community Notes. The changes come as a response to what Zuckerberg perceives as a “cultural tipping point”

Donald Trump Jr. is visiting Greenland just weeks after his father argued “ownership and control” of the autonomous island “is an absolute necessary” for U.S. national security.
"I am hearing that the people of Greenland are 'MAGA,'" Trump said on Truth Social, sharing a video. "My son, Don Jr, and various representatives, will be traveling there to visit some of the most magnificent areas and sights. Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!"

Bubonic plague is a severe infectious and potentially fatal disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. It is the most common form of plague and is primarily spread through the bite of infected fleas that typically live on rodents.
The disease, also known infamously as the Black Death, ravaged Europe from 1347 to 1351, causing between 75 million and 200 million deaths (which included about 50% of the total population in Europe at the time). Those horrifying numbers still grip the imagination.
Now, in an intriguing development, COVID-19 vaccine scientists have developed a new shot that would protect against Yersinia pestis infections.

For the last 4 years, Democrats, their media, and the Biden administration have lied thousands of times about who was responsible for the violence on January 6, 2021.
We now know that three things had to happen in order for the violence to take place.
1.) Nancy Pelosi and Mayor Muriel Bowser had to block the National Guard from protecting the US Capitol. Pelosi did this be banning the President Trump’s request for the National Guard troops at the Capitol that day. And, then on January 6, Nancy Pelosi stalled in calling in the National Guard until late in the afternoon.
2.) Capitol Police were ready, and eager

On Joe Biden’s first day in office, he signed a raft of executive orders, one of which we said was “almost entirely overlooked but could easily end up having the biggest impact.”
Turns out we were right.
The executive order – “Modernizing Regulatory Review” – would, we predicted, “unleash the regulatory state with a ferocity never before seen in this country.”
With this one executive order, Biden shows that he’s intent on giving regulators carte blanche to impose massive new rules on businesses and households, on virtually anything and everything they do, regardless of costs. There’s little else Biden has done so

With the introduction of congestion pricing, New York City has become the most expensive US city to drive into — costing car drivers up to $27 in fees just to enter Manhattan.
That’s more than double the $10.25 maximum charge to enter San Francisco via the Golden Gate Bridge, or the $7.80 maximum Skyway charge to enter Chicago.
In NYC it now costs drivers of two-axle cars between $9 and $20 with an E-ZPass and $13.50 to $27 without to enter or drive into the “Congestion Zone,” as The Post’s map shows. Larger vehicles and trucks pay even more.

French politician Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of the National Front far-right party, has died at the age of 96. In a statement to AFP, his family said he had died in the Paris region. "Jean-Marie Le Pen, surrounded by his family, was called to God this Tuesday at 12:00." During his career, Le Pen carved out a position in French politics and society as one of its most infamous politicians, who found support among voters for his rhetoric. With the ascent of his daughter Marine Le Pen, with whom he had several deep political disagreements, he introduced a political dynasty into French politics.

The Biden administration withdrew seven far-left proposed rules at the end of December, potentially due to receiving hundreds of thousands of critical public comments.
The withdrawals are being hailed as wins by conservatives, who have submitted comments against the rules, which would have compelled allowing male participation in girls sports, prohibited religious exemptions for birth control coverage, taken federal funding away from pregnancy resource centers, and more.
“On balance, withdrawing these rules is a win for everyone who submitted comments opposing them,” Ethics and Public Policy Center fellow Rachel Morrison told The Daily Signal. “It means these bad policy proposals by the Biden administration will not go into effect.”

It’s Tuesday, January 7. This is The Front Page, your daily window into the world of The Free Press—and our take on the world at large. Coming up: the case for banning masks, the dangers of ignoring Islamist terrorism, and why “queer people” are buying guns.
But first: Trudeau resigns.
I am an American, but I still remember when Justin Trudeau was elected as prime minister in 2015. Young (by politicians’ standards), handsome (by regular ones), cosmopolitan, and liberal (he was a sort of French Canadian Obama), the legacy press adored him. A Washington Post headline from 2016 effused: “How Canada’s Prime Minister Became a Superhero,”

Just for a change, our regular and increasingly obnoxious feature of "As I said twenty years ago..." is being pre-empted by the marginally less obnoxious feature of "As I said ten years ago..."
Exactly a decade ago - January 7th 2015 - two Muslim fanatics burst into the offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and killed a dozen people, including the bulk of the senior editorial staff and some of France's best known cartoonists.
(Snip) Throughout the very bad ten years for free speech that followed, I have thought often of Stéphane "Charb" Charbonnier, the editor of Charlie Hebdo and a great cartoonist in the French style.

Two of Donald Trump’s former co-defendants, Waltine Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, are asking the court to halt Special Counsel Jack Smith from releasing a "Final Report" tied to the dismissed Florida prosecution.
In an emergency motion filed in the Southern District of Florida on Monday, the two argue that the report, if released, would violate court orders, infringe on their constitutional rights, and prejudice any potential future proceedings against them.
The Case Against the Report
Nauta and De Oliveira claim that Smith, whose appointment as Special Counsel was ruled unconstitutional by the court, lacks the authority to issue a report under federal regulations.

Donald J. Trump won the 2024 election. The results were certified, with Vice President Kamala Harris taking a front-row seat in making her defeat to Mr. Trump official. The capital got slammed by a snowstorm, but that didn’t stop this piece of business from getting done. It’s amazing how there was no drama partially due to the weather--no one was protesting in this--but also the general feeling that voters didn’t feel cheated (via Associated Press):

MSNBC contributor Claire McCaskill, also a former Democratic U.S. Senator, said on Monday’s “Deadline” that she felt “bitter” President-elect Donald Trump did not pay a “higher political price” for what he did on January 6.
McCaskill said, “Well, today was certainly a bittersweet day. And, candidly, I’m bitter. I mean, I’m bitter that a higher political price wasn’t paid for what Donald Trump did on January 6. Something is broken and we need to acknowledge that. And the other thing we have to keep front of mind, Nicolle, is that Donald Trump didn’t win 50 percent of the votes. This is an evenly divided country.

There is truly a bright side to every situation, the challenge is looking for it.
In the case of Liz Cheney and the January 6th Committee, conservative commentator Mollie Hemingway sees one positive thing that came out of all this.
While she acknowledges the seriousness of the situation and all of the injustices that were done, she is happy that Liz Cheney has moved her ‘toxic and neocon’ politics firmly into the Democrat party.
She made the comments while speaking to Maria Bartiromo on FOX Business.

A nonsensical, contradictory portrait of the Tesla Cybertruck bomber is emerging just days after the Army veteran supposedly killed himself before detonating his vehicle at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day.
While the left has tried to frame 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger as a MAGA fanatic, new evidence reveals he was neither a Republican nor a conservative.
Rather, Livelsberger was a registered “No Labels” voter, Fox News reported. According to its website, the “No Labels” group claims to be a centrist, nonpartisan organization.
“We may be Democrats, Republicans, or independents, but we won’t mindlessly follow anyone,” the group wrote.
