Musk Mobilizes the Masses

Elon Musk isn’t messing around, and he just got a massive scalp to prove it. The billionaire owner of X started his day by posting a photo of the 1,500-page spending bill in Congress with this question: “Ever seen a bigger piece of pork?” Scores of Musk posts and reposts followed Wednesday, sending members of Congress scrambling to quickly declare their opposition as calls and emails began flooding the Capitol. By the afternoon, President-elect Donald Trump declared his opposition. And within hours, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., pulled the bill he had unveiled just a day earlier. “Elon just became the most powerful person in Washington, D.C., today,”

Wrong again, Mike. All Musk did was post a photograph. The American people used their power to stop the bill. That’s the way our government is supposed to work. “Of the people, by the people, for the people…”

Musk can say - with accuracy - that all he did was post a photo of the bill, a copy (or link to) its text and some matter-of-fact criticism: it's pork, it's too big, it's too complex etc. I am actually not of the 'Twitter/X under Musk is a revelation' because so much of the horrid shadowbanning and supression-of-content algorithms remain in place. But...all he really did was mention it to a wide audience ie inform the public - the way journalism used to or should work. The swamp have reacted in real or feigned horror.

Mayor Eric Adams blamed out-of-touch Democrats for President-elect Donald Trump’s victory — saying they were too busy comparing him to Hitler to discuss real issues affecting American people. Hizzoner was asked about Trump’s sweep over Vice President Harris in the five boroughs and the message he thought constituents were sending. “Oh, wholeheartedly, that we stopped speaking to people. We started speaking at people,” Adams told Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum on Wednesday. “Not hearing the people and you engaging in dialogue while individuals are fearful of affordability, losing their home, the future of their children, and you’re having these intellectual conversations, and people are, like, saying, what the hell are you talking about?

Judge Lewis J. Liman in Manhattan signed the order calling Giuliani to appear before him on Jan. 3, according to the Associated Press. He will also face trial on Jan. 16 before Liman over the disposition of his Florida residence and World Series rings.

Happy Thursday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. Zoerbrück had become fond of composing harpsichord accompaniments for compilations of WebMD diagnoses. It was just a couple of weeks ago that I first wrote that President-elect Donald Trump needed to make squish Republicans understand what the "New Trump Order" is. The gist of it was that the "go along to get along" Republicans needed to have it made clear that their behavior would no longer be tolerated. When we were discussing the latest insane continuing resolution in yesterday's Briefing,

Incoming U.S. President Donald Trump’s transition team is recommending sweeping changes to cut off support for electric vehicles and charging stations and to strengthen measures blocking cars, components and battery materials from China, according to a document seen by Reuters. The recommendations, which have not been previously reported, come as the U.S. electric-vehicle transition stalls and China’s heavily subsidized EV industry continues to surge, in part because of its superior battery supply chain. On the campaign trail, Trump vowed to ease regulations on fossil-fuel cars and roll back what he called President Joe Biden’s EV mandate.

When certain Washington, D.C., waitstaff pledged to "refuse service and cause other inconveniences for members of the incoming Trump administration" last week, my first thought was, "Fire them all. Every single one." That's a silly idea, of course — local restaurants couldn't fire that much staff without major disruptions, even for the customers they do like. I just like to vent my id before I sit down and actually think through a problem. "You just have to fire a few," was my second thought. "Maybe just one." The story probably wouldn't have gone anywhere had it not been for Democrats sympathetic to displays of incivility toward conservatives.

Those who followed the details of the U.S, Mexico and Canada trade agreement, can easily see how Chrystia Freeland was never going to be the right person for Canada to have as Finance Minister while they attempt to navigate President Trump’s economic policy again. In fact, I would not be surprised if someone in Mar-a-Lago told Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau he needed to ice her out if Trudeau wanted to stand a chance of a relationship with Donald Trump. As many people noted during her gleeful confiscation of funds from the trucker protests, Deputy Prime Minister/Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is a conniving, scheming, and all-around nasty piece of work.

HTS, which cooperates with the Turkish military and Turkish-backed groups in Syria, is committed to establishing an Islamist state across Syria, at least for a start. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Al-Jolani are now making all sorts of human-rightsy promises that they know the West likes to hear – just as Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini did before he took over Iran, and as the Taliban did before they quickly demolished 20 years of US human rights progress in Afghanistan.

This is not just 23andMe’s reckoning; it’s a warning for the customers of the entire direct-to-customer endeavor, which has long struggled to balance rapid innovation and profits with robust consumer protections. Your DNA — an immutable blueprint of your identity — could be sold, shared with unknown entities or exploited for targeted advertising and product development without your consent.

President Joe Biden appears to be struggling with the prospect of retiring from public life, according to a New York Times report published Tuesday. After Democrats ousted him as their presidential candidate in July, Biden, 82, who has been a public official since 1973 (51 years), is not enjoying the prospects of sunsetting his over half a century long career at the center of American politics, the NYT’s Peter Baker and Zolan Kanno-Youngs reported. Biden reportedly told allies after he dropped out of the race that he was bored, moody, and angry. He’s apparently angry because many Democrats opposed his pardon of his son.

George Stephanopoulos was repeatedly told by his executive producer not to “use the word rape” before going on the air to discuss Donald Trump but the ABC News anchor ignored the warning — a decision that cost the network $16 million, The Post has learned. Parent company Disney’s capitulation last week in the defamation lawsuit by Trump against ABC News and Stephanopoulos shocked media and legal experts, but the damning revelation could help explain why Mouse House CEO Bob Iger signed off on the settlement so quickly. The “This Week” host uttered that Trump was “liable for rape” while discussing the civil lawsuit won by journalist E. Jean Carroll during an interview

On the eve of former President Donald Trump's return to power, a new report is turning the story of the 2021 Capitol incursion on its head. For four years, a Democratic-run "select" committee on Jan. 6, anti-Trump Republicans, and the establishment media have blamed Trump for the violence in Washington on Jan. 6, 2021, but the report released Tuesday accused Trump's acting defense secretary at the time, Christopher Miller, of defying Trump's specific orders. It's the very first finding of the report, and it paints a scathing picture of Nancy Pelosi's "select" committee -- and former Rep. Liz Cheney's role in the whole affair.

George Stephanopoulos may be OUT at ABC News after CEO Bob Iger decided to pay out a $15 million defamation settlement, plus $1 million to cover Trump’s attorneys fees. Trump’s defamation case against ABC News was related to statements made by “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos. Trump sued ABC News earlier this year after Stephanopoulos claimed Trump was “found liable for rape” by a Manhattan jury in the E. Jean Carroll case. In 2019, E. Jean Carroll alleged Donald Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s. Trump has denied the allegations and called E. Jean Carroll a “whack job”

The NYPD’s highest-paid employee — who shoveled in more than $400,000 last year — filed for retirement this week and then was suspended amid an internal affairs probe into her astronomical overtime, The Post has learned. Lt. Quathisha Epps will retire just shy of 20 years with the department, sources said — an early exit that will impact her pension and cost her a $12,000-a-year supplement for cops who reach the two-decade mark. Leaving money on the table is seemingly uncharacteristic for Epps, who raised eyebrows by pulling in roughly $204,000 in overtime last year for her administrative job in NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey’s office, payroll records show.
