Senate Republicans aired frustrations Tuesday after Vice President-elect Vance and other party members skipped votes Monday, greasing the skids for Democratic-backed judicial nominees to be greenlighted as part of a final push to fill the bench with lifetime appointees before President-elect Trump takes office. Republicans on Monday attempted to slow down an effort by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to advance more than a dozen judicial nominees, which Democrats have prioritized before ceding power at year’s end.

The following Republicans were not present: Mike Braun (Indiana) Steve Daines (Montana) Bill Hagerty (Tennessee) Marco Rubio (Florida) J.D. Vance (Ohio) Rubio and Vance had an excuse as they were meeting with 47. The others didn't. Where were they? Do they not care? Obviously not. Shame on them.

Republicans have the positive momentum from the election. Yet they won then walk away letting their energy start to die away by giving up precious judge positions by not showing up for votes. While some Republican Senators may be moving on to the Trump cabinet, they still have the responsibility to help prevent liberal judges from being confirmed.

JD Vance and Rubio can walk and chew gum at the same time. They can meet with Trump and be on the Hill to vote. I think the Senate and Congress should all work from home anyway and figure out a way to vote securely. I'm pretty sure they have some really good servers. It would say US a lot of money. They don't need to be in Washington to do their jobs; being in Washington is part of the problem.

European governments, rather than risking confrontation with Iran's regime, have preferred to maintain business relations and avoid taking any position that might upset the mullahs. Those countries are complicit in the suffering of the Iranian people. The unalleviated silence emboldens the regime, rather than holds it accountable. After nearly four decades of maintaining diplomatic relationships with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the time is long overdue for Western nations to take a real stand. If these countries genuinely believe in the principles of "democracy" and "freedom" that they so often preach, they would look a lot more credible if they demonstrated this professed commitment by genuinely supporting Iranians yearning for freedom.
