Who Brings the Joy?

Kamala Harris launched her campaign with the claim that she would be bringing the politics of joy. That lasted for about a day and a half. The joy in this year’s campaign came from Donald Trump and his fans. The simple “Trump dance” that he performs to “YMCA”–so simple that I might be able to do it–has swept the country. If you watch a college or pro football game, or pretty much any other sports event, you might see someone doing the Trump dance. But that isn’t all: news anchors, politicians–including the newly elected President of Argentina–and many others have succumbed to the craze. Thus:

Raiders tight end Brock Bowers joined the NFL’s latest celebration trend on Sunday when he hit the “Trump Dance” after catching a touchdown pass. While Bowers and thousands in the stands and online seemed entertained by the dance, the Raiders public relations team may not be as amused. Bowers gave the Silver & Black in the third quarter of their game against Miami when he caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Gardner Minshew II. After the game, a game the Raiders ended up losing 34-19, Bowers was asked about the dance move. “I’ve seen everyone do it,”

Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees are coming under attack. They all will, I suspect, to the extent that Democrats can come up with something to use against them. Trump’s choice for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has already been attacked on two fronts, possibly representing vulnerability on his part, or more likely simply the importance of his role. The first line of attack is outrageous. The Associated Press, a reliable shill for the Democratic Party, doesn’t like one of Hegseth’s tattoos. Not the Jerusalem cross, but the Latin phrase “Deus Vult,” which is tattooed on his arm:

But for a few fleeting moments on NBC’s Meet the Depressed, the media forgot that they got shellacked. Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers became the latest NFL star to nail President-elect Trump’s dance moves as a touchdown celebration. Bowers caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Gardner Minshew II with 1:21 left in the third quarter. The score cut the Raiders’ deficit to 17-12 against the Miami Dolphins. He had seven catches on eight targets for 85 yards at that point. He then did the move in the back of the end zone. Bowers is the latest NFL star to do the move. San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa and the rest of his teammates did it after he sacked Tampa Bay

The Trump transition team is compiling a list of senior current and former U.S. military officers who were directly involved in the withdrawal from Afghanistan and exploring whether they could be court-martialed for their involvement, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the plan. Officials working on the transition are considering creating a commission to investigate the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan, including gathering information about who was directly involved in the decision-making for the military, how it was carried out, and whether the military leaders could be eligible for charges as serious as treason

One night after the Netflix app crashed, Donald Trump crashed the gate at Madison Square Garden, making an impromptu appearance at UFC 309 — and the crowd reaction was deafening: “It’s always loud when he comes in,” UFC commentator (and podcaster extraordinaire) Joe Rogan exclaimed, “but now that he’s won, now that he’s the president again, oh my God!” Even before he landed in New York, the president-elect and his nominee for the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., were chilling on Trump Force One, taking in the early action: (No word if RFK Jr. was also watching Trump eat Big Macs and shooting him dirty looks.)

BEIRUT - An Israeli strike on a building in central Beirut on Sunday killed Hezbollah's media relations chief Mohammad Afif, two Lebanese security sources told Reuters, though there was no immediate confirmation from Hezbollah. Israel has rarely hit senior Hezbollah personnel who do not have clear military roles, and its air strikes have mostly targeted Beirut's southern suburbs where Hezbollah has its heaviest presence. The Israeli military declined to comment in response to questions from Reuters. An Israeli military spokesperson's account on the social media platform X that often publishes evacuation orders for areas about to be bombed showed no such warning before this strike.

It’s high time to shatter the myth of Nancy Pelosi as a master strategist. Nobody deserves more blame than the ridiculously self-titled “speaker emerita” for the Democrats’ $1 billion electoral collapse. Under her ruthless leadership, her party lost the White House, the House, the Senate and the popular vote. You can’t say that enough. Voters rejected the Dems coast to coast, even in Pelosi’s deepest-blue home city of San Francisco, which saw a 7-point swing to Donald Trump. She’s the only speaker in history to have lost control of the House twice. She’s finished.

PITTSBURGH and BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Democratic county officials admit they are breaking the law to overturn Pennsylvania’s Senate election for losing Sen. Bob Casey. “I think we all know that precedent by a court doesn’t matter anymore in this country,” said Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia, who voted Thursday to count deficient provisional ballots a Pennsylvania Supreme Court order barred, in which voters did not sign in one of two necessary boxes. “People violate laws any time they want,” Ellis-Marseglia said. “So for me, if I violate this law, it’s because I want a court to pay attention. There’s nothing more important than counting votes.”

President Biden has given the OK to lift restrictions that will allow Ukraine to use U.S.-provided long-range weapons to strike deep into Russian territory, a U.S. official confirmed to CBS News on Sunday. The move is a significant change to U.S. policy in the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict. The easing of restrictions would allow Kyiv to use the Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, to hit targets inside Russia. The move also comes as some 10,000 North Korean troops were sent to Kursk near Ukraine's northern border to help Russian forces retake territory. The White House National Security Council declined to

President Biden has reportedly given Ukraine permission to deploy US-supplied longe-range missiles to attack targets in Russian territory just weeks before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
