I have been following Scientific American’s steady decline, both in terms of its handling of science and its actual support of policies helpful to this nation. (snip) One of the primary reasons this descent into madness has accelerated is that the editor-in-chief, Laura Helmuth, has allowed pseudoscience and narratives to flow unfiltered with little if any restraint. (snip) Once the magnitude of the Trump win became apparent, Helmuth lost all sense of professional decorum and scientific objectivity, and had herself a spectacular social media meltdown.

When politics mixes with science it becomes a dogma and our understanding of the world and it's mysteries, suffers.

For pity's sake, her degree is from Berkley and her pervious post was the WaPo... the woman has no clue about unbiased science.

And to think, I once subscribed to that magazine back when the subscriptions were affordable and the contents were insightful and readable. Never again.
Liberalism is the most corrosive agent in the entire world, capable of destroying anything it infiltrates. It also ends up being terminal to any unfortunate host organism.

I cancelled by decades long subscription a long time ago, I think early 90s when they moved from legit science to left climate propaganda crapola.
The name remains, the magazine is LONG gone.

Why do these liberal woman have to look all the same? No make-up. Like childless cat ladies. They’re also the ones who are going to deny men sex because men supported Trump. What a joke!

The apology is even more revealing than her original hateful and vulgar posts. Basically she is saying, "Please excuse me. I am an emotionally unstable person who can't accept reality and I need to be committed to a mental hospital."

Scientific American was THE science magazine this geeky science crazy lady read when she was a youngster. I remember reading my subscribed copy every month from cover to cover along with Discover. It is so sad to see how far this publication has fallen.

People used to mention Ike's farewell warning about the 'Military-Industrial Complex'.
Not mentioned is Ike's warning in the same address about the 'Government-Scientific Complex'.
Much of 'science' today is funded by grants from the National Science Foundation..... the Federal Government.
The scientists applying for and trying to get research grants are generally not politicians, but they're not dummies either.
You better 'Toe the Leftist Line' in your present grant-funded research and report if you want your next grant application -on which your job and career depend- to be approved.
I used to follow the discussions on climate, and I noticed that the only people writing from what seemed to me to be an unbiased, scientific viewpoint were 'Scientist Emeritus' types, people who were retired, and who no longer had to depend on Government-funded grants, and thus the approval of the Government bureaucrats who decided which research and researchers got funded..... and which ones did not.

The once-august publication disgraced itself years ago, working global warming into virtually every article, and even some of the advertising.

Unscientific UnAmerican?
Helmuth seems to believe, like most Leftists, that they are free from responsibility from their actions. Personally, sure, maybe "sorry" is good enough.
But professionals are supposed to be held to a higher standard. Does anyone believe that she didn't mean what she said and that she lacked the professional bearing to control her emotions. It is also clear that her pseudo scientific magazine leans hard left. Things are claimed that lack rigorous proof. Contradictory viewpoints are excluded. This is NOT science, which should embrace open discussion and the opportunity to examine things in great detail.
Unfortunately, historically, science has sometimes proven itself incapable of open discussion. Many scientific pioneers were pilloried by the current leaders, driven out of their fields, and their reputations ruined. Some committed suicide. All because people like Helmuth were too arrogant and intransigent to be true scientists, seeking only truth.
Helmuth will probably survive because she is surrounded by people like herself, her magazine shows that. Eventually, she and SA will fall by the wayside, more victims of Leftist incompetence and brain rot.

'Scientific American' is not the only publication that has turned far Left over the last decade. If it keeps going even auto related magazines will feature cars that only make LEFT turns.

Late night disappointment and wine can reveal the disease of leftism in anybody. People who call themselves scientists and support false science because that's where the government grants are can't be both. Science is about truth, not popular fantasy. Evil scientists are now in control of the Pentagon and that should scare everybody. Some of the new weapons in development were heavily influenced by Terminator.
