Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich finally touched down on US soil late Thursday night after spending more than a year in a hellish Russian prison — and becoming the first American journalist to be arrested for alleged spying since the Cold War.
The 32-year-old journalist — along with freed hostages Paul Whelan and Alsu Kurmasheva — landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where they were greeted by President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The brave reporter shook hands with Biden and Harris as he briefly spoke with them and gave the commander in chief a hug before he was surrounded by jubilant family members for their long-awaited emotional reunion.

As RedState reported Wednesday, despite the fact that it has been eleven days since Vice President Kamala Harris effectively became the presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, she hasn't given one press conference or had any media interactions where she's actually taken any questions from reporters.
She has done other things, though, things that I think most people would describe as "weird." Interestingly, that is what many on her side have taken to calling Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), Donald Trump's vice presidential running mate, even though - last I checked - it wasn't JD Vance who pretended to have a southern accent and who campaigned and laughed

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was the principal organizer of the September 11 attacks that killed around 3,000 Americans. He has been held prisoner at Guantanamo Bay for more than two decades. Yesterday the Biden administration announced that it has reached a “plea deal” with KSM and two high-ranking al Qaeda confederates:
“In exchange for removal of the death penalty as a possible punishment, these three Accused have agreed to plead guilty to all of the charged offenses, including the murder of the 2,976 people listed in the charge sheet,”

Give full marks for integrity to the Wall Street Journal for this biting report on a prisoner swap they've long advocated. Their own reporter, Evan Gershkovich, got released after nearly 500 days of captivity over absurd espionage charges for reporting on Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine. The WSJ has every reason to paint the complicated, multi-national exchange in an entirely positive light.
And yet, the WSJ reports on the "dark figure" Putin really wanted back -- an assassin held in Germany who killed one of Putin's enemies in Berlin park five years ago, a Chechen separatist commander in exile:
Vadim Krasikov—a Russian hit man and former intelligence officer convicted

It's on, baby, like Donkey Kong. And perhaps Kamala Harris will have a moment to reflect on the wisdom of an old axiom -- be careful what you wish for, as you might get it.
That is, if this is in reference to the televised debate that Harris demanded two days ago in Atlanta. Did Trump mean this as an acceptance of that "challenge"? Former President Donald Trump said "challenge accepted" in response to Vice President Kamala Harris' invitation to compare records.
"This is one of the worst records anywhere," Trump told rallygoers in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in a campaign rally speech that aired live

We reported on the plea deal that was announced by the Biden Defense Department with some of the terrorists allegedly involved in the horrific attack on 9/11.
The prosecution reached a plea agreement with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin 'Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi. But the Pentagon did not release any details of the deal, showing that typical Biden team "transparency."
As we noted, a "person familiar with the deal" said it involved a life sentence rather than the death penalty in exchange for guilty pleas. Family members of the 9/11 victims also confirmed they were told this by the Office of Military Commissions.

The House Judiciary Committee on Thursday sent letters to more than 40 major companies in its ongoing probe of a left-leaning advertising cartel that has allegedly sought to defund news outlets and platforms, including The Post.
The panel, chaired by Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), asked the companies — which included Adidas, American Express, Bayer, BP, Carhartt, Chanel, CVS, General Motors and Goldman Sachs — to preserve documents and provide information pertaining to their activities with the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM).
“The Committee has learned that collusive activity is occurring within the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, of which your company is a member,” the letter began.

Intel’s on a long, long road to recovery, and over 15,000 workers will no longer be coming along for the ride. The chipmaker just announced it’s downsizing its workforce by over 15 percent as part of a new $10 billion cost savings plan for 2025, which will mean a headcount reduction of greater than 15,000 roles, Intel tells The Verge. The company currently employs over 125,000 workers, so layoffs could be as many as 19,000 people.
Intel will reduce its R&D and marketing spend by billions each year through 2026; it will reduce capital expenditures by more than 20 percent this year; it will restructure to “stop non-essential work,”

Former CNN host Don Lemon is suing billionaire Elon Musk and X for abruptly canceling their agreement for Lemon to host a show on the platform.
Lemon filed a complaint Thursday in San Francisco court, accusing X of using Lemon’s stardom to boost the platform’s reputation, and failing to compensate him in accordance with the terms of the deal.
“Contrary to the promises and representations made to Lemon, once Defendants were enriched and gained the benefits of using Lemon’s name, likeness, identity, and reputation, they reneged on their express agreement with Lemon and have failed to compensate him, citing to false pretenses for their breach of the partnership agreement,” the lawsuit reads.

A New York appeals court on Thursday denied former president Donald Trump’s attempt to lift the partial gag order that prevents him from speaking publicly about prosecutors, court staff, and their families following his historic, 34-count conviction in the Stormy Daniels hush-money case.
A five-judge panel of the New York supreme court’s Appellate Division ruled in a three-page decision that the gag order should remain in place until Trump’s sentencing date, tentatively scheduled for September 18, because the case remains pending. The court sided with Judge Juan Merchan, who oversaw the criminal trial, and his decision to keep parts of the gag order in effect until Trump is sentenced.

A bomb used to kill a top Hamas leader was reportedly smuggled into a Tehran guesthouse two months before his assassination.
Ismail Haniyeh was killed on Wednesday after an explosive device erupted inside a heavily guarded complex where he was staying, according to a Times investigation. The bomb was said to be covertly placed inside the building two months ago, despite the complex being protected by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. The Hamas leader had been visiting the guesthouse in Tehran for the presidential inauguration when the bomb was detonated remotely

So former President Trump did what only he does best today and walked into the proverbial "lion's den" at the National Association of Black Journalists conference. It was by invitation - they also issued one to his opponent, whoever it was at the time and now isn't - but Trump is the only one who showed up.
That in itself is hysterical. The guy, God bless him, is fearless.
Rachel Scott was "hosting," but judging by the immediate hostile tone and rude interrogatories, she was loaded for bear and wanted to earn her bad-a** badge.
I don't think she did, even as hard as she pushed.
