They Feel?

The conventional description of the American political system holds that Republicans represent the rich. Democrats, by contrast, are said to represent the “little guy,” including blue-collar workers and low-income minorities. The most Interesting thing about Donald Trump’s foray into politics is that he would like to turn that picture upside down. So maybe this is a good time to ask: Why do people vote the way they do?It’s certainly hard to square the conventional view with the way many sophisticated people vote. Among high-income voters, almost as many identify as Democrat as Republican. In general, the higher the level of education, the more liberal people say they are;

Unfortunately, most women vote based on their feelings. And I say that as a member of the fair sex.

When Mr. Goodman talks about taxation, I think he is most likely referring to the federal income tax. While his point is true that Republican influence on this tax has always been to lift its application to the higher incomes and reduce taxation on the lower incomes, it is also a fact that the initial passage of the income tax was of a form that only touched very high incomes. Only through inflation was this tax then forced onto lower wage earners.

Too many people wrongly vote on what they believe. Since if they believe the Lie, that’s how they’ll vote. 95% of blacks voted for Obama in 2008. Obama was and still is, a complete liar. His color was a major help, but he is no ‘Bro from da hood!’

Ask any teacher. 30% of any population is just stupid. These can't think, so they feel. These are the base of the Democratic party.

Most women I know vote based on their feelings…especially liberals and moderates.

My youngest brother votes straight 'rat. He's an idiot but I blame his even stupider wife. My husband's brother votes for democrats because his daddy and grandaddy did. His words. and he's almost 80 yrs old and still refers to his father as daddy.
Supposedly after the 2016 elections in Seattle, one of the anchors on the local TV station tweeted..'this election was between the educated and uneducated and the urban and rural.'
If true, it kind of lets you know what they think of Patriotic, normal Americans.

Dems vote on emotion, strictly. Lots of Repubs use their brains.
And #1 is on the right track, far too many women are purely emotional, sad to say. Plenty of logical, sensible women, but it seems that they are a minority, unfortunately.

My 83 year old mother, who is a lifelong Christian, (who has not walked the walk on many occasions in her life), hates Trump so much. All her friends and our family are all straight vote Republicans and do not understand what is wrong with her. She believes every lie told about him and spits nails on how "evil" he is.
Everyone has tried to reason with her, but nothing budges her. It is straight up bizarre.
Part of the problem I am sure is she has CNN on most of the time and she loved Don Lemon and Stephen Colbert. Egads man.

Previous posters' observations about how somebody they know reflexively votes Democrat because the parents and grandparents did reminds me of a little joke, worth retelling the next time one hears this excuse.
A typical leftist teacher asks her gradeschool class how many are Democrats. A flurry of hands go up. She then asks how many are Republicans. A single child raises her hand. Annoyed at what she sees as blatant wrongthink, the teacher demands "Why ever would you vote Republican? "Because my Mommy and my Daddy are both Republicans" she innocently replies. "Well" Huffs the teacher, "if your parents were both idiots, then what would that make you?" The little girl ponders for a minute and ventures "A Democrat?"

We are overthinking this. We vote the way we do for the same reason we do everything else; out of habit. It takes a massive upheaval to get people to change their voting patterns. Apparently blatant corruption and pedophilia are not upheaval enough.

In my experience, most people check the letter after a candidate's name to decide how to vote.
Issues are not a concern, nor is reality.
