Great player, great man. Saw him live against the Dodgers as a kid more than once.
RIP, Say Hey.

From the moment I snuck my mini-transistor radio into bed as a little kid to listen to Russ Hodges & Lon Simmons call the SF Giants games every night, I loved the Willies. McCovey & Mays. Mays was the greatest. I met him twice. As a child in awe. As an adult in more awe. Thank you, Willie. God bless & RIP.

My all time favorite player which was a little odd since my favorite team was the Brooklyn Dodgers before they betrayed me and fled New York.. Most of the kids I traded baseball cards with were Mantle, Musial etc so I got Willie cards easily. Not to brag (well maybe a little) but I still have most of my cards in an album.

I met both Mays and Aaron in 1969. Two very kind men, and incredibly talented competitors.
RIP

Wow! ….. He was my favorite Major League Baseball player when I was a kid growing up in Northeast Pennsylvania. Most of my family and friends were Phillies fans, but Willie, was my favorite baseball player. I would watch Kreiners Corner sports show that covered the Miracle Mets. I was fortunate to get his autograph when I was around 9-10 and boy do I wish what that was now. I can still see his face and glowing smile as he signed my glove…….I would never sell it. I just want to look at my old baseball glove that Willie signed in 1970.
RIP Willie and Mahalo for the memories !

Yeah, Willie had the gift. Both parents were athletes. Great Americans. All of them. Had the privilege of watching him play the Cubs at Wrigley Field. My time in the little leagues in Illinois had started when Willie made it to major league baseball. Rest in Peace, Willie.

Greatest all-around baseball player ever. Great person too. That was a different era, wasn't it? "Happy Days" for sure.

During the Baby Boomers' early years, I thought that the two best all around ballplayers I ever saw--offensively, defensively, plus intangibles--were Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente. The Say Hey Kid was arguably the best baseball player of our lifetimes, a great, great man. May he rest in peace. What a life he had.

I saw Willie play many many times. When he was on the field you couldn't take you eyes off him. Greatest all-around ball player of all time. He would have broke Ruth's record had it not been for trhe Korean Wars and time spent in the negro leagues.

Saw him play one of his last games at Shea with the NY Mets in the early 1970’s. Looked him in the eye as he walked into the players entrance. Great American.
