A California law requiring alcohol-serving establishments such as bars and clubs to offer date rape drug testing kits goes into effect on July 1. AB 1013, the law behind the mandate, passed unanimously in 2023.
The bill requires establishments to have signs saying, “Don't get roofied! Drink spiking drug test kits available here. Ask a staff member for details” prominently displayed, and provide the kits for free or a “reasonable” amount relative to wholesale price.
The test kits must be able to detect at least flunitrazepam (also known as “roofies”), ketamine, and gamma hydroxybutyric acid.

Republicans in the Michigan House of Representatives are doubling down on their opposition to a Democrat-led bill, which could put the state’s 15 electoral votes in line with the national popular vote in presidential elections. The effort comes as other states have passed measures looking to align themselves with the national popular vote, rather than their own state’s popular vote, as a way to change the way a president is elected. Seventeen states and the District of Columbia have already agreed to a compact which would have them vote in line with the popular vote, rather than their respective jurisdiction’s popular vote,

Imagine a Jan. 6-style crisis, only this time with serious (as opposed to politically manufactured) disagreements over whether the presidential candidate who won a key state is entitled to its electoral votes.
That disturbing scenario just became a little bit more likely — not for the next presidential election but subsequent ones. Without fanfare, Minnesota’s governor signed legislation last month that would award the state’s 10 presidential electors to the national popular-vote winner even if he or she lost Minnesota. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact purports to take effect once states carrying 270 electoral votes (the minimum needed to win the presidency) have agreed to its terms.

Nearly half of Americans expect President Joe Biden to suffer an embarrassing gaffe during the first debate against former President Donald Trump.
According to a new poll by J.L. Partners, 49 percent of voters believe Biden will forget where he is while on stage with Trump, and 41 percent expect him to wander off of the stage.
The survey also found that a massive 70 percent of Americans think the 81-year-old president will fumble over his words— something he is very prone to.
Voters from both sides of the political aisle doubt Biden’s ability to even make it through the whole debate in one piece.

If you watched this Morning Joe segment on MSNBC, you’d think no American president had ever had a successful outing with foreign leaders until Joe Biden was elected. The media and Democrats are engaging in a full-court press after capturing numerous videos of Biden looking aloof and wandering off. The president’s campaign went so far as to call the clips misinformation. Joe Scarborough echoed that sentiment, claiming the unflattering images of the president looking absolutely lost were “cheap fakes.”

CNN is forcing other television networks and outlets to agree to a list of tedious requirements in exchange for the ability to air the first 2024 presidential debate, sources told The Los Angeles Times.

The network, however, has cobbled together a rather finicky list of conditions for what rival networks and other outlets like Fox News and MSNBC are allowed to do in exchange for the rights to

An explosion in southern Gaza killed eight Israeli soldiers, the military said Saturday, making it the deadliest attack on Israeli forces in months.
The attack, coming more than eight months into a grinding war that shows few signs of ending soon, was likely to fuel new calls for a cease-fire by Israeli protesters. It also came as the government confronts widespread anger over exemptions from military service for young ultra-Orthodox men.
Israel launched an air and ground invasion of Gaza in response to an Oct. 7 cross-border attack by Hamas and other militants that killed some 1,200 people and took 250 others hostage.

Contamination levels in the first eight days of June, after persistent heavy rain in Paris, showed bacteria such as E. coli and enterococci beyond limits judged safe for athletes.
The report was published by monitoring group Eau de Paris one day after a senior International Olympic Committee executive said there were “no reasons to doubt” races will go ahead as scheduled in a historic downtown stretch of the Seine near the Eiffel Tower.

President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign on Thursday called on top Republicans to drop litigation seeking to curtail aspects of mail balloting now that Donald Trump has begun to embrace the method.
Trump for years falsely claimed voting by mail was riddled with fraud, but his 2024 campaign began a program this month to encourage mail voting if convenient for people. It is part of Republicans’ attempt to increase mail voting among their supporters.
At the same time, the Republican National Committee, newly under the former president’s control, has sued or joined lawsuits seeking to limit certain aspects of mail voting.

Biden has made lower drug prices the centerpiece of his presidential campaign. He’s been telling the story of how he lowered drug prices everywhere: His campaign ran an ad during the Lions-Packers game on Thanksgiving, he touted it during his State of the Union, and he uses it in nearly every campaign stop. In Biden’s telling of the story, since he’s authorized the government to do more drug price-setting, seniors are saving thousands of dollars a month. The problem for Biden, like many stories he’s told over the years, is this story is just not true. In fact, it’s laughable. Let me explain.

Here’s a thought.
What if the kids are all right?
New polling shows young voters in the US are shrugging off their habit of voting left and actually thinking of voting Republican in November.
In almost equal numbers to their Democrat-voting contemporaries.
All this despite the daily diet of Democrats trying to throw everything at young voters to woo them.
Anyone who gets daily messages in their inbox from the Biden- Harris campaign will know how hard they are trying to make voting Democrat “cool” to young voters.
In the past few days alone this has included “direct messages” from George Clooney, Julia Roberts and — er — Jimmy Kimmel.
