PORTLAND, Ore. — A public fountain in Portland’s South Park Blocks that depicts a scene from the Torah and the Old Testament and was donated to the City of Portland by Jewish Immigrant Joseph Shemanski in 1926, was vandalized in early March, city officials say. Portland Parks & Recreation spokesperson Mark Ross told KOIN 6 News that Shemanski Fountain’s stone base was chipped away and two of the fountain’s three bronze bowls were stolen. The City of Portland filed a vandalism report on March 4 after city employees noticed the damages. “PP&R maintains the fountain and Portland Water Bureau owns

Comments:

Took 2 months for media to report on the vandalism. Polish immigrant found success in US and donated fountain as a thanks for kindness shown to him. Maybe it should be relocated to a friendlier city.

Maybe the bronze bowls were stolen by the same kind of scrap rustlers that steal copper wire---and are occasionally deservedly electrocuted.

Chris Cillizza Says ‘Jasmine Crockett

Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza said Friday that Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett would be a disastrous presidential nominee for her party due to her far-left policies and tone. Crockett, a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, has risen to prominence with her incendiary anti-Republican rhetoric, including calling wheelchair-bound Texas Gov. Greg Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels.” Cillizza, during a YouTube livestream, said Crockett appeals primarily to activist Democrats but would struggle in a general election — likening her to Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “Jasmine Crockett would be a disaster as the Democratic nominee,” Cillizza said. “You think

Walmart has issued a public response to a growing nationwide boycott that began Monday, as some Americans pledge to avoid the retail giant for a week in protest over a range of economic and political grievances. "Serving communities is at the heart of Walmart's purpose to help people save money and live better," the company said in a statement shared with Newsweek. (Snip) The protest is the latest in a string of consumer-led boycotts targeting major corporations over their political influence, labor practices, or perceived social stances. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is leading Chuck Schumer by double digits in a new head-to-head poll of the 2028 New York primary. The survey by the liberal firm Data for Progress, first shared with POLITICO, found that 55 percent of Democratic likely voters said they supported or leaned toward supporting Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, while 36 percent backed or leaned toward backing Sen. Schumer. Nine percent were undecided. The poll is the latest sign that Schumer’s standing among the Democratic base has taken a hit since he voted to advance a GOP funding bill last month that avoided a government shutdown. The fact that

Jon Ossoff, the nation’s most endangered Senate Democrat, sees a path for reelection in a state President Donald Trump won in 2024 and at a time when Democrats are suffering rock-bottom approval ratings. He plans to go all out against Trump. “I have never seen opposition energy like this — from dyed-in-the-wool Democrats to moderate Republicans,” Ossoff told CNN before making a rather bold prediction at a time when his party is still reeling from the fall elections. “The energy and opposition, I believe, is building toward a landslide victory in 2026,” the Georgia Democrat said. “A landslide victory for

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is known for steering clear of the traditional, somber attire expected in Washington, DC, playing the suit game by his own rules. But he's also got a second kind of unconventional look — operator casual. It's a different vibe from the conspicuously bright blue suit he wore at the recent NATO summit, drawing criticism, but it shares some similarities to some of his other preferred flair, like flag-linings in his suits, patriotic socks, and a star-spangled pocket square. The style gained momentum during the Global War on Terrorism, or GWOT, though earlier versions date back to

Billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk has drawn the ire of Democrats due to his role in the Trump administration‘s efforts to cut waste in the federal government, with some New York lawmakers targeting his company with a new piece of legislation. Tesla has been the target of protests and attacks from Democrats in recent months as their opposition to Musk has intensified. In the New York legislature, Democratic state Sen. Patricia Fahy introduced legislation Wednesday that would take away Tesla’s permits to run five showrooms in the state and open it up to other electric vehicle manufacturers seeking to sell

Tesla has become a lightning rod for violent attacks and vandalism in the months since CEO Elon Musk joined the Trump administration. Now, people who disagree with Musk’s role in politics are hoping to channel their emotions into something peaceful: a day of mass nonviolent protests at Tesla locations nationwide. More than 200 protests are scheduled to take place Saturday during what organizers are calling a global day of action, part of a campaign called “Tesla Takedown.” The organizers are hoping to damage Musk’s political standing by hurting the sales and stock price of the electric-car maker, the foundation of

Walz sent out a memo on Tuesday notifying government employees that starting on June 1, at least half of their shifts will have to be in person. The policy would affect about 15,000 of 40,000 state workers. “Workers are angry. Workers are threatening to quit over this,” said Rep. China announced countermeasures by raising tariffs on U.S. goods from 84% to 125% starting Saturday. The U.S. and China have escalated a new trade war by raising tariffs even as U.S. President Donald Trump hit a pause on tariffs for other countries. China notably had said it would fight the American tariffs with its own countermeasures, calling Trump’s actions “economic bullying,” which led Trump to retaliate by continuously hiking up tariffs this week. Trump’s universal tariffs on China total 145%. When Trump announced Wednesday that China faced 125% tariffs, he did not include a 20% tariff on China tied to its role in fentanyl production.

A federal judge will block the Trump administration from ordering Cuban, Haitian, and Venezuelan illegal immigrants. This development comes amid several court battles over President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and could be a temporary setback to the administration’s efforts to deport illegal immigrants and asylum seekers. From The Associated Press: U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani said she would issue a stay on an order for more than 500,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans to leave the country, sparing them until the case advances to the next phase. Their permits were to be canceled April 24. During a hearing, Talwani repeatedly questioned the government’s assertion that it could end humanitarian parole for the four nationalities.
