The irrational exuberance of the electric vehicle bubble is reaching its denouement, as legacy automakers are backing off of their previously ambitious EV sales and production goals, proposed new EV manufacturing plants are being suspended, and lithium battery manufacturing operations are laying off workers.
There is an almost predictable storyline in how these ventures have played out, which is reminiscent of the dot-com bubble of a quarter-century ago, except that the dot-com bubble wasn’t suffused in eco-virtuousness nor did the companies of its era receive such heavy public subsidization before going bust.

Great news.
Now STOP flushing truckloads of taxpayer funds down this sinkhole!
If some company wants to spend THEIR OWN money on EVs or batteries or charges, fine, no problem.
No more taxpayer funds on this dying, foolish, dead end technology.
EVs have been available to buy since 1890s, and they are STILL a tiny niche market that will never meet the transportation needs of the majority of Americans.

Some day, if I live long enough, I might buy an EV. But, I want it to be my idea and not the government's. They will have to costs less than the Hope diamond, be more reliable than a $ 2 watch, and have a range longer than a dog leash. To be contrary I might opt for a hydrogen car.

If free markets were allowed then only a few rich liberals would own EVs. But the Democrats' Five Year Plan is to eliminate vehicles that people want to force them to only buy EVs. Of course, everyone knows that the power grid could never handle millions of EVs, even before Democrats eliminate all coal and natural gas power plants. The end goal is to force everyone to ride mass transit. Not possible in rural, low.population areas? Tough. Move to a Democrat controlled city.

Once again, a reminder that there was no federal government support, i.e., subsidies using our tax dollars, to help Ford, et al set up gas stations to support the first cars. They used their money. And that is one reason why I don't like Elon Musk is that much of his wealth/Tesla success was achieved using our tax dollars aka subsidies.

I laugh every time I remember the president of my past employer's automotive division, who I'm sure was earning 7 figures, mouth "EV's have won the technology war." The man was fired about a year later, but the company still held a course on EVs.

at long last my secret dream shall manifest: a jetson flying car in every garage,
a cost-free trouble-free permanent -energy-source- Nicolai Tesla invention in 'every tank'.
we shall be freeeeeeeeeee

An interesting thing will be to watch the resale value of used EVs. Historically you could sell a used car for something more than half it's new cost in 4 years, sometimes much more, like for Hondas or Toyotas.
My bet is that after 3 or 4 years you won't be able to sell any EV for more than $500.
