Soon the government might shut down your car. President Joe Biden's new infrastructure gives bureaucrats that power. You probably didn't hear about that because when media covered it, few mentioned the requirement that by 2026, every American car must "monitor" the driver, determine if he is impaired and, if so, "limit vehicle operation." Rep. Thomas Massie objected, complaining that the law makes government "judge, jury and executioner on such a fundamental right!" Congress approved the law anyway. A USA Today "fact check" told readers, don't worry, "There's no kill switch in Biden's bill." (Snip) The clause is buried under Section 24220 of the law.

Israel’s enemies are charging the world’s only Jewish nation with committing genocide. This is a lie.
Genocide as a word and internationally accepted concept did not exist before 1944. It was specifically created to describe how the Nazis sought to eliminate the entirety of the Jewish population in Europe.(Snip)
This narrow definition under international law consists of two principal prerequisites: intent and a specific group’s physical destruction.
Currently, there are politically motivated and rhetorically irresponsible charges of genocide leveled at Israel. These disingenuous accusations are a weapon of war that terrorist groups such as Hamas are using to achieve strategic political victory in the struggle for universal information dominance.
News deserts are an oasis

The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern sounded an alarm recently.
Its press release said, “The loss of local newspapers accelerated in 2023 to an average of 2.5 per week, leaving more than 200 counties as news deserts and meaning that more than half of all U.S. counties now have limited access to reliable local news and information, researchers at the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University have found.”
(Snip) It’s a crisis for democracy — not to mention journalism schools that rely on journalism students. Without newspapers, demand for journalism classes should drop.

The left-wing Arabella Advisors network has raked in more money than either of the two major political parties and affects almost every element of public policy and elections, argues Scott Walter, president of the Capital Research Center, a Washington-based investigative think tank.
Walter’s new book “Arabella: The Dark Money Network of Leftist Billionaires Secretly Transforming America” shows that in the 2020 election cycle, Arabella Advisors’ nonprofits took in $2.4 billion. The United States Supreme Court reportedly signaled that they are considering granting Russell Alford, one of the few J6 defendants to refuse a plea deal, his petition for writ of certiorari, a move that only happens for roughly 1% of cases brought to SCOTUS.
(Snip) Alford is appealing the ruling from the trial court and Appeals Court that "passive, quiet and nonviolent conduct can be disorderly.” Though the Supreme Court may not be able to help Alford in his other charges of for “remaining” and “demonstrating” in the Capitol, this could undermine the convictions of thousands of peaceful protesters who were charged with disorderly conduct.

Rainer Zitelmann's book, How Nations Escape Poverty, is particularly interesting for American veterans who served as G.I.s in Vietnam or for those who may have lost their fathers or family members in the conflict.
The irony of history is that the communists initially won — however, upon establishing their socialist regime across Vietnam, they came to realize what a huge mistake they had made. Today, young Vietnamese in particular admire the USA and capitalism.

On Monday, I journeyed from Israel to Brussels for the two-day National Conservatism conference where I was due to speak this morning. I travelled from one war zone. I hadn’t expected to be entering another.
National Conservatism, a movement underpinned by the thinking of the Israeli-American philosopher Yoram Hazony, promotes the nation state and the defence of its historic values against the nihilism of the post-moral, anti-western and anti-human ideologies that pass for much progressive thinking.
This mainstream position is denounced as “far right” by left-wingers who use this smear to denounce anyone who dares oppose their agenda of destroying the western nation and its historic culture and values.

Elite higher education in America -- long unquestioned as globally preeminent -- is facing a perfect storm.
Fewer applicants, higher costs, impoverished students, collapsing standards, and increasingly politicized and mediocre faculty reflect a collapse of the university system. The country is waking up to the reality that a bachelor's degree no longer equates with graduates being broadly educated and analytical. Just as often, they are stereotyped as pampered, largely ignorant, and gratuitously opinionated.
No wonder polls show a drastic loss of public respect for higher education and, specifically, a growing lack of confidence in the professoriate.

President Joe Biden made some very unkind comments about Japan on Wednesday, comparing the nation to Russia and China over what Biden says is economic stagnation due to "xenophobia."
As RedState covered earlier on Thursday, Biden said that Japan isn't accepting enough migrants to its country leading to an economic downturn. It's an odd statement to make, given Japan's status as an important ally:
“One of the reasons why our economy’s growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome immigrants,” Biden said at a Washington fundraising event for his 2024 re-election campaign and marking the start of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
CBS News is reporting that the Biden administration wants to bring some refugees from Gaza to the United States. CBS says documents obtained from the White House reveal that "senior officials across several federal U.S. agencies have discussed the practicality of different options to resettle Palestinians from Gaza who have immediate family members who are American citizens or permanent residents."
The CBS report continues, “The plans would require coordination with Egypt, which has so far refused to welcome large numbers of people from Gaza. Those who pass a series of eligibility, medical and security screenings would qualify to fly to the U.S. with refugee status,
A Boeing whistleblower who raised the alarm about defects in 737 Max jets has died suddenly at the age of 45.
Joshua Dean previously said he was fired from his job as a quality auditor at Spirit AeroSystems for questioning standards at the supplier's plant in Wichita, Kansas, in October 2022.
Spirit manufactured the door plug on the Boeing jet which shockingly blew out midair on an Alaska Airlines flight in January.
Dean died in hospital on Tuesday after a sudden illness, his family said on social media. He was fired from Spirit AeroSystems in April 2023.

The founder and CEO of telehealth and online pharmacy Hims took to social media on Wednesday to encourage anti-Israel protesters on college campuses to continue in those efforts because companies like his will be "eager" to hire them. Andrew Dudum, who founded Hims in 2017, said anti-Israel campus protesters are making a difference and drew a contrast to other executives who have said the antisemitic demonstrations have made those involved in campus protests unemployable.
"Moral courage > College degree," Dudum wrote on X. "If you're currently protesting against the genocide of the Palestinian people & for your university's divestment from Israel, keep going. It's working."
