It's a bittersweet day for college football fans. University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban has told his team that he is retiring. The 72-year-old leaves the sport as one of the most legendary coaches in college football history, with seven national championships under his belt — six of them with Bama. "Saban, 72, just completed his 17th season at Alabama, which ended in a loss to eventual national champion Michigan in the Rose Bowl. In 17 seasons, he won 201 games — tied with Vince Dooley (Georgia) for the second-most wins at a single school in SEC history, behind only Bear Bryant,

Got lucky against Auburn this year so he's gonna quit while he's ahead (that's a joke). Doing pretty darned well for 72, but still - 72. Time to enjoy those grandkids that have been telling to stop losing his temper during the games. He's on record as not being happy with half the NCAA jumping to the SEC and Big Ten, and I doubt he's a fan of either the portal or NIL. FWIW and now that I look back on it, watching him through binoculars during the time-out huddles at the Rose Bowl, he wasn't in the middle of things. There were times when he said nothing to anyone, deferring to his assistants.

He could have passed Bear Bryant in wins, but probably not years. Nor stature. But he was one of college football's great coaches.

Well, we knew it had to happen sometime, but didn't realize it was now. I was at UA as a sophomore, when Bryant retired and then of course, died a few weeks later. I was at the UA vs. UK basketball game, in January, when Ray Perkins was introduced as the new coach; he got a standing ovation. Unfortunately, Perkins was not cut out for the job. He tried too hard to be a non-Bryant and just was not a good college coach. Saban is indeed the best college coach ever. I can't imagine trying to come into that "office" and trying to fulfill expectations. Anyway, God Bless Coach and Miss. Terry. They do deserve a vacation. I texted an Auburn friend last night after I saw a picture of Toomer's Corner covered in toilet paper, celebrating the "passing" of Saban. I told him, "I bet the minions were running around Auburn chanting, "ding dong, the witch is dead."

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) experienced what can only be described as a positive moment in his presidential aspirations on Sunday, given Liz Cheney’s popularity among Republicans. Appearing on Face the Nation, Cheney was asked about DeSantis suggesting that as president he would look at the January 6 defendants on a case-by-case basis and consider pardons in response to concerns about the “weaponization” of government and the rejected ex-congresswoman responded by declaring the governor “unfit for office.” [Video] “We have other Republican candidates for president like Ron DeSantis who have said they are open to reviewing the cases against these defendants and considering pardons for them,"

My first Townhall Column of the year was my top 2024 predictions, but one prediction did not fit with its snarky vibe. Let me make it now. In 2024, we’re going to see a massive terrorist attack here in the United States. I’m not going to sugarcoat it – I’m worried that we’re facing a terrorist threat unlike anything we’ve ever seen and that a lot of Americans are going to die. It does not have to happen, but because the people running this country are so corrupt, malicious, and incompetent, it will. The people running this country have made choices – like throwing open the border –

Republicans have had lots of opinions as to whether it was a good idea for Donald Trump to skip debating with his primary opponents thus far. Some have asked why would he need to when he is 30 points up on his next closest opponent. Some have said that it was unfair that voters were unable to see all their choices for the GOP nomination all together on one stage debating the issues. But as Trump stands a very good chance of being the Republican Presidential nominee, Democrats seem to be a bit nervous about any general election debates between Trump and Joe Biden.

The video of Judge Mary Kay Holthus being attacked last Wednesday by a three-time felon whom she was just about to sentence for an April 2023 baseball bat assault is not something you can unsee. As RedState previously reported, Holthus was right on the verge of handing down the sentence for Deobra Delone Redden, who is 30, when Redden jumped over the defense's table and the judge's bench and attacked her, knocking her to the floor as others in the courtroom tried to pull him off of her and subdue him, which they finally did but with some difficulty. Illustrating what a rolling disaster the Biden administration is, the executive-branch-controlled National Park Service decided it'd be a great idea to remove the William Penn statue that stands on the grounds of the founder of Pennsylvania's historic home. Why? Because "equity and inclusion," of course. You see, "Welcome Park," the site of Penn's historic home didn't give enough representation to Native Americans, and the federal government decided the best course of action would be to remove his statue completely and turn the place into a woke shrine. No doubt, the fact that Penn owned slaves was also a major factor in trying to erase his existence

If you're familiar with New York you know that there are thousands of people going through those arteries on any normal workday. If they wanted to do something and make people turn away from their "cause," they almost couldn't pick anything that will tick off people more than something like that. Here you can see they're employing a tactic of the climate activists:

Perhaps the most misleading government statistic of all is the Consumer Price Index. The CPI is an incredibly important statistic because so many government programs that benefit American citizens are tied to that number. It's usually cited as the inflation rate, but it's not really. The CPI is the rate of increase in a subjective "market basket" of goods and services. The things that concern you and me the most as far as price increases have very little to do with the CPI. The CPI doesn't track food or gas prices at the pump, so the CPI that we see every month doesn't tell us anything useful.
